That would make sense!
In that case, why is Kion nowhere to be seen in TLK2? I think I read this somewhere, but someone suggested that the best way to keep continuity intact would be to make Kion the son of Kiara and Kovu. But you know Disney...
Keep in mind that Lion Guard, like Lion King 2, is not canon. NONE of the direct-to-video cheapquels and movie-based TV shows are canon, because they were made by departments other than Walt Disney Animation Studios (the department that created the original films). And a general rule of thumb is that the department that creates the canon keeps the canon, so unless it gets made by the same department that made the original source material, it's not canon.
For example:
*The Rescuers to The Rescuers Down Under--Canon
*Frozen to Frozen Fever--Canon
*Tangled to Tangled Ever After--Canon
*Lion King to Lion King II/Lion King 1 1/2 /Timon & Pumbaa/Lion Guard--Not Canon
*Peter Pan to Return To Neverland/Jake and the Neverland Pirates--Not Canon
*Little Mermaid to Little Mermaid II/Ariel's Beginning/Little Mermaid Series--Not Canon
*Aladdin to Return Of Jafar/Aladdin Series/King Of Thieves--Not Canon
*Hunchback to Hunchback II--Not Canon
*Pocahontas to Pocahontas II--Definitely Not Canon
