EW can confirm that Elliot Knight (How to Get Away with Murder and By Any Means) has been cast as Merlin, Joana Metrass (Sinias de Vida) will play Guinevere, and Andrew Jenkins (Wayward Pines) will guest star as Percival. Deadline originally reported the casting.

Did someone say Merida?
Brave is coming to Once Upon a Time, and EW has confirmed that Merida will be played by Scottish actress Amy Manson, whom fans might recognize from Being Human. A special sneak peek at next season — which you can watch below — showed off new character Merida and her awesome archery skills.

Ugh, don't tell me MERIDA is the mother of Rumple?!

the Rumple & Hook figures are cute! Id love to see August and Ruby figures!

Merida would fit well with the Arthurian theme next season.

Ugh, Pixar infesting things, between this and Kingdom Hearts, bah. But I guess Merida would fit in line with the destiny/fate parts of the show right now. I wonder if they'll incorporate the Will o' the Wisps.

As she's in the Princess line now, figured she could be in it at some point. But you're totally right about the destiny / fate aspect though for sure.

Were you okay with the Wicked Witch of the West? I see no difference between including her and including Merida. I don't think the series was ever intended to be just for Disney characters.

For me, I like Merida. She's spunky, so it'll be nice to have some of that flair this season.

The Wicked With of the West isn't some other brand's character. The specific one in the MGM movie belongs to Warner, but in general she is in public domain and that is what allows Once Upon a Time to use her. Though for me, personally, when they started letting Frankenstein and Mulan into the show, I stopped thinking this show was just about fairy tales, and now I'm not giving a f***. I still enjoy the show, it's just the show doesn't have much internal logic.

How can you not? Merida exists only as a character invented for a Pixar film. The WWotW has a literary basis. And it was already pointed out the first time you complained about Frankenstein and Mulan, Duster, that this show was never about only fairy tales, hence "Storybrooke." Frankenstein was in the first season and so was the Mad Hatter, who isn't from a fairy tale either. The later inclusion of characters like Mulan, the Wizard of Oz characters, and Peter Pan don't go against any kind of "consistency" you invented.

Merida is neither a literary character or a Disney character invented for a film inspired by misc. literature. Moreover, she isn't even popular enough to justify including out-of-the-blue. So I feel justified in finding it WTF Pixar infestation. *shrugs*

I understand your point. I don't think a character necessarily has to have literary roots in order to appear on the show (though, that restriction does make sense and I see where you're coming from), but I can see why it would be a very odd choice to include Merida simply because she doesn't have that kind of history.

Would there be a different, and literary, character who has a similar backstory to Merida and who could provide some of the potential themes we'll be seeing in this upcoming season? Who would you replace Merida with?

ONCE action figures are coming this year as well, also along with the LE dolls of Snow and Regina ... there was a little 'coming soon' sign at Comic Con. Might be temped by an action figure, have to say  Used to love my Buffy one ! Oh my gosh and the Xena one was well, just remembered that ! She used to grab her weapons and everything !

I didnt know this show was still that popular to have all this merchandise coming out now.
Seems a little too late? I cant imagine this show lasting another season, they seem to be running out of ideas.

I always thought the steampunk b/w world was a weird addition to this show but now it seems they have canned any future characters or references to that realm due to Disney's recent crackdown on promoting non-company brands(see X-men.) B/w classic monsters are usually associated with Universal. Too bad b/c i would have like to have seen Dracula and a werewolf story involving Ruby. :\

Hard to say, since we don't know what they'll be doing with her yet. She may just end up a one-episode character, sort of like Rapunzel, who knows.

Btw, I'm not as bothered by it as my last post may make it seem, I was only defending my last post. Mostly my reaction is, "Darn Pixar... *grumble grumble*"

All they need now is to put The Princess and the Frog (even if it's just Dr. Facilier) in the show and it'll be perfect. ;)

But Merida is not a Pixar character anymore... She is a Disney Princess now. That's why she is able to appear on Sofia The First and on Once Upon a Time.

Well, let's just hope they don't throw Princess Leia into the line next...

You are right that this is abut stories, not just fairy tales. But you don't have to be like this to me when I simply stated that at first it did look very much like it was going to be all about fairy tales and that it looked like it was their initial plan. Also, The Wizard of Oz is called a fairy tale by it's author. And I count Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan as fairy tales, even if that's not "correct".

I know I sound like a woman obsessed, but I'm still thinking on Ginny's hair ! Trying to find some mention of it at CC that it is because of the show, but drawing a blank so far. Have you seen any videos of it mentioned at all ?
