YES! Can't wait to watch the HD transfer for Johnny Tremain, one of my favorite live-action Disney movies! And it'll be great to see the complete episode of "The Liberty Story," as the Tremain DVD only includes the portion relevant to the film, omitting the TV version of "Ben and Me." This entire line-up sounds like another winner!

Nice! Some of these, I haven't seen in a long time, others are completely new to me. Although I have class on Thursdays, so I'll have to miss the shorts and Johnny Tremain, but might make it in time for "The Liberty Story".
BTW, this will be on Thursday instead of the previous block's Sundays, as TCM has their Essential Jr block (or whatever it's called now- I forgot its new name) on Sundays during the summer.

What's different about the TV version of Ben and Me?

Another blog entry bout this Thursday's Treasures From the Disney Vault lineup on TCM.
I have to admit, I'm not as familiar with a lot of this set, but there's some good stuff here.

Wow, you guys beat me to it by nearly a month!
Yes, I am really looking forward to this tomorrow night. I've seen the first two nights and really enjoyed them, especially the love for Three Caballeros last time out.
I absolutely ADORE Rascal – one of my Top 5 live-action classic-era Disney films!
“Vault Disney” on DC really had me spoiled as we used to get a lineup like this EVERY NIGHT. And they went directly from that, to nothing as far as Walt-era content goes.
Kudos to TCM for doing what “Disney” Channel refuses to.
PS. Nice blog write-up, Aviator!

Re: TCM's Treasures from the Disney Vault Part 3
It was wonderful to watch "The Great Locomotive Chase" in HD! That was the highlight for me. I have the DVD, but it's not encoded for 16:9 displays, which results in a postage stamp sized image on most TVs. Very much an underated gem amongst Disney live action movies.
I had no idea the TV broadcast version of "Ben and Me" included an additional animated introduction. The was fun to watch, and so was Walt explaining Liberty Street.
I've seen Johnny Tremain before (and read the book), but I'm still impressed by the matte work in it. Mr. Ellenshaw was the real star of that movie.
Watching Leonard Maltin host was like having the WDT DVDs back. I've watched all three broacasts in this series and I hope they continue to do more. They do a great job of highlighting a mix of Walt era content, both short and feature length, live action and animated.

Re: TCM's Treasures from the Disney Vault Part 3
I bowed out after Rascal, but it was a good lineup. I wasn't a big fan of Treasure of Matecumbe, but it was nice getting a chance to see it.
My favorite piece might have actually been "The Liberty Story", albeit less so when Walt was rehasing Johnny Tremain. That's usually my lesser favorite part of his shows, but the rest of it, especially his talk about Liberty Street, was great.

Enjoyed watching The Great Locomotive Chase. Was surprised to hear profanity in the film. "Damn Yankees" is said three time during the film. Was this the first Disney film to feature profanity?
It all started with a mouse.
