… Did people actually go to the theater, only to leave without even seeing the movie because they only wanted to see the Frozen Fever short?

… I might not care all that much for Disney’s craze for making live action adaptions of their animated classics, but that’s just wrong. :|

It wouldn't be the first time something like that happened. When the first trailer for Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was released, many fans paid full admission for the movies it was attached to (Meet Joe Black, The Siege, and The Waterboy), watch the trailer, and leave. A "Fox Trot" comic from the era also depicted Jason and Marcus rushing from theatre to theatre in a multiplex simply to watch the Star Wars trailer over and over again.

So yes, I'm sure people did go to the theatre, watch "Frozen Fever," and leave.

But given the film's box-office intake, Disney laughed all the way to the bank. ;)

Oh, yes. Didn't some people do that when Monsters Inc came to theaters, pay to see it just for the Star Wars Episode II teaser?

My friend works at JB HI-FI and gave me a copy of Cinderella two days before its official release in Australia! If you have any questions about the Blu-Ray, please let me know!

I've pre-ordered a copy of the U.S. Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital HD Combo Pack on Amazon, but I need to get my hands on the lenticular copy from Best Buy and the Steelbook from the UK. I would truly appreciate someone helping me obtaining two copies of the lenticular and steelbook release. Thanks!

Here's some photos!

I've seen that poster too much to really want it as a Blu-ray cover.

Thank you for the pictures jpod! I don't know how to help you obtain the two other versions of the movie you want, at least not now. I could try asking a friend how to import and export.

I, too, wish the cover was all new images, but I still love how the cover looks, mostly!

As I've said before, really not my favourite poster … think its extremely poor considering the beautiful imagery we have had for the film.

Its being released on iTunes here in July ! Seems so soon ! Are there going to be any nice sets released for it, or will it just be the standard same cover all over the world etc ?

I thought I would give a small review of the Australian Blu-Ray release with a couple of photos that I took with my iPhone.

OVERVIEW: I genuinely believe that Disney did something right with their latest live-action film. While most people were probably expecting a sword-wielding action hero, I'm happy that Disney treated their most beloved character with the uttermost care and respect. While the previous live-action films were all about style, they lacked substance and, unfortunately, heart. Cinderella, however, has style, substance and, most importantly, heart. I'm genuinely happy that Disney kept the magic alive in this film. If Walt Disney himself were alive today, I'm sure he would be proud to see his most treasured little saviour be retold to the new generation in a beautiful and charming way. Bravo!

VIDEO: The film is presented in a stunning 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 format with an 2.35:1 aspect ratio. It appears as though DNR has been applied to get rid of the grain to give Cinderella a more glossy look. I have the LG-60PA650T and the video quality is absolutely beautiful. The two scenes that stand out is the dress transformation and the first dance at the ball. The colours just explode!

AUDIO: The film is supplied with a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 lossless soundtrack. It is here where Disney allows the viewer to enter the world of Cinderella. You can appreciate Disney's effort to make even the smallest of sounds audible. I have the Sony Muteki 7.2 Home Theatre System and there are no words to describe just how amazing the audio quality is. The scene that stands out is the midnight chase sequence. Just listen to those chimes! Cinderella is also available to listen to in Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Russian and Swedish in a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. English Audio Descriptive for the visually impaired is included in a Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack.

SUBTITLES: There are a handful of subtitles (English, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Russian, Swedish, ect.) included for the hearing impaired and for those who may have missed a bit of dialogue in the theatre.

http://i.imgur.com/mgjnUEm.jpg

MENU: The interactive menu consists of footage from the Teaser Trailer and a couple of scenes from Cinderella. I think there's an unused score that's played during the menu because it sounds a lot different to what I heard in the film.

http://i.imgur.com/fi0JgsR.jpg

SCENE SELECTION: There are 19 chapters with titles provided for each one.

BONUS FEATURES: Cinderella contains five bonus features that clocks in around thirty minutes. There are four featurettes and an alternative opening with an introduction by Kenneth Branagh. While I'm genuinely grateful that Disney has provided a handful (a small handful) of bonus features, I'm disappointed that the 12 minutes of deleted scenes (that will only be available on the Disney Movies Anywhere (DMA) app in the U.S.) wasn't included on the Blu-Ray. However, in saying that, I'm thrilled that Frozen Fever wasn't included on the Australian Blu-Ray release.
  • A Fairy Tale Comes to Life (1080p, 8:58)
  • Costume Test Fun (1080p, 2:29)
  • Staging The Ball (1080p, 10:57)
  • Alternative Opening: Ella's Childhood (1080p, 2:54)
  • Ella's Furry Friends (1080p, 3:31)

OVERALL SCORE AND RECOMMENDATION: There were no words to describe the level of happiness I experienced yesterday when my friend surprised me with the Blu-Ray copy. Having seen Cinderella 45 times in theatres (yes, that's right), I was genuinely looking forward to watching the film in the comfort of my own home without any disturbances whatsoever. Unfortunately, there is always going to be one disappointment and I'm pretty sure I have made it loud and clear what that disappointment was. Maybe I was expecting too much for a studio to go all out on the Blu-Ray for one of their most iconic characters of all-time? Maybe. However, in saying that, Cinderella is retold beautifully and presented with stunning video quality and amazing audio quality that any disappointment I previously felt disappears once I press the "Play" button. RECOMMENDED! 4/5.

Thank you for this preview! So your biggest complaint is no deleted scenes on the Blu-ray or no extended cut? And you saw the movie in theaters 45 times?! I don't think I could ever do that!

I'm surprised you love this film and the original Cinderella so much, yet it's not your topmost favorite. What are your top favorites and have you seen them, like, 100 times in theaters or something? lol

Yeah, I'm genuinely disappointed that the 12 minutes of deleted scenes wasn't included on the Blu-Ray release. Sure, I'm grateful that the alternative opening was included, but it's a bit ridiculous to exclude the five deleted scenes by making them exclusive only for the DMA app. Hahaha, yeah, I actually saw Cinderella 44 times (45 if you include the advance screening in February) at both IMAX and my local cinema. I think Cinderella is now on par with Titanic. I watched the movie religiously when it was released in 3D in 2012. Totally worth it! BOOBS. BOOBS EVERYWHERE! Haha. I don't really go to the movies unless there's something I really look forward to. Will be going to see Minions and Inside Out soon! :D

Yes I agree, putting the deleted scenes only in DMA is Disney being as cruel as an evil stepfamily member!

So Titanic is your favorite film, then both Disney's animated and live-action Cinderellas? And it's interesting that now another straight guy I know loves Cinderella. Always nice to hear that. I now know two. But I am gay myself.

Here is my (not so well-drawn) idea for Cinderella's pink dress and blue dress. I found the pink dress in the live-action film to not be pretty enough, and to not look enough like the improved blue version that the blue version is supposed to be. I also felt the blue dress should have the round material at her hips like the bustle from the animated film's. So, here it is:

EDIT: I didn't like it so I deleted it, lol.

amazon UK is telling me the release date here for dvd/bluray is August which seems very late. I guess I'll wait as I don't love it enough to import it and I am a 'loves a physical copy' kinda gal so won't be getting it from itunes.
I guess itunes got an exclusive or something?
Settling Soul mates? That is grim. And I've played Monopoly alone.

Cinderella has just passed the $200 million mark in North America, with a worldwide total of $538,725,513! And the movie is still playing in theaters, albeit second-run cinemas though.

I love both Cinderella movies as well, and I'm straight, too.   I don't think only gay people love these movies.

By the way, love those sketches. I thought the pink dress was pretty enough in the movie.

Haha! I love this! Cinderella is also among my favorites, along with Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid. These are my Disney 5 fab.

And yes, Titanic as awesome as well! As to quote you, BOOBS, BOOBS EVERYWHERE!

Oh, yay another straight guy loving Cinderella! And thank you for liking my sketches, Vlad! When I traced my own drawing of her face to do the blue dress, I didn't do it well, but I do think she looks good in the first drawing (the pink dress). Your top favorites are among mine! All the ones of fairy tales or with magic in them! Except Bambi is in my top 5 too and that is neither a fairy tale or with magic.

I also think Titanic is the best film ever made.

Thanks for the info tsom! Yay for Cinderella!

I totally agree, Duster. These fairy tale adaptations are among the studio's best. My non-fairy tale favorites, right after my 5 fab would be Fantasia and The Lion King. And I thought the face was good enough in your sketches.

Aw, thanks for saying you thought my faces were good enough. :)

I like Fantasia a lot, too. I like The Lion King but it's not a big favorite of mine, even though I loved the show Timon & Pumbaa.

Thank you, that's great! Except I already pre-ordered it at FYE to get a free poster with it, so I'll have to go to Target and get it and I can't drive yet so I don't know if I can get there or get someone to take me...
