Best Disney DVD Ever Round Four: Other Animation

Post by Disneykid »

I think you guys got the gist of it by now (hopefully). Vote for your favorite, the winner goes on to the final round. I do have a question about that, though. Since there's only four rounds that means there'll only be four finalists. Do you guys think I should up it to eight finalists with the top two winners from each round? That way the final poll's a bit larger and more diverse.

Although I know it isn't the best DVD on here, I'm voting for SchoolHouse Rock. Kiki's Delivery Service is my favorite film on here, but the DVD's rather sparse. Dinosaur is technically the best DVD on here, but that movie is so amazingly bland that I just bring myself to vote for it. Yeah, I'm a cheater, but it's my poll, so there. :P

Winners so far:

Round One: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Platinum Edition
Round Two: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl - Collector's Edition
Round Three: The Ultimate Toy Box

I think having just the 4 makes the choice hard enough.

Of these, I only have TLK 1.5. I'm sure Dinosaur CE is a much better set, though, and is probably the best of those listed. I also thought James and the Giant Peach and The Nightmare Before Christmas were pretty good. I guess the latter doesn't count, though, because if it did, Roger Rabbit would have as well, and it would be a definite contendor.

The only one I ever checked out is LK 1.5 so my vote obviously goes to that.

I've always wondered how far you could really go in terms of calling SchoolHouse Rock: 30th Anniversary Edition; Castle in the Sky; Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away "Disney films" (even in the "other" category). They were not even made by Disney. Sure, they bought the distribution rights, redubbed them and stuck their name all over the posters, but that doesn't make in "Disney Animation".

Thus, I choose Dinosaur all the way, as it is only one of two truly Disney DVDs there. Excellent disc, that goes to show that Disney will make great DVDs for films they don't seem to "care" about, but nothing whatsoever for the animated classics.

I know, I pushed it a little with this round, but otherwise you'd only have Dinosaur and Lion King 1.5 on here, which wouldn't be much of a round (besides, I just called this round Other Animation rather than Other Disney Animation). BTW, what's the other truly great DVD you're referring to? Especially since I think Disney's gone a lot more than 2 great releases...

Aaron: James and the Giant Peach and Nightmare Before Christmas aren't on here because I decided to make the game about multi-disc sets only. Like I said in the round one thread, though, I'll probably make another game like this strictly for single discs.

Dinosaur seems like the one to choose for reasons that Loomis points out, and because it's one of the great 2-disc sets. The Lion King 1½ is a lot of fun, and its supplements truly match that fun even if they're not the behind-the-scenes, informative type. I think Dinosaur would get my vote, with TLK 1½ the runner-up.

Lion King 1.5 gets my vote because that's the only one of these choices I've ever seen.

But isn't the poll for best disney dvds? Who made the film would be irrelevant, as they were responsible for the release itself.

My vote went to Dinosaur - I think it's a greatly underappreciated film, and the dvd is just kick-ass.

I didn't care for any of those movies. My vote would be for something else that's not listed.

Loved Kiki's even though some of the extras were in Japanese. Seemed to have more depth on the process of animation than Disney ever showed us. All of the stuff that had to be scrapped and start over.

I voted for Spirited Away, I have the Limited Edition with the bonus disc. It has the making of it, but it is all in Japanese with English subtitles. It has numerous trailers, a picture gallery and an International Poster gallery. Hmm...that's all I can remember...but it's great! It is a very weird movie, but in a good way (well, to me anyway hehe :D )
