Classic Disney shorts on blu-ray

Post by tinternet »

Hello everyone,

it's been a long time since the studio released Walt Disney Treasures. I am asking because I have recently seen new masters of Donald Duck shorts and they look fantastic. It would be great to have them in 1080p and in chronological order. The link to a new remaster of Alpine Climbers (1935 Mickey Mouse cartoon) is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02ESfYcrldY. The old one from Mickey Mouse in Living Color is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvIUfgpSMNU. Do you think they will re-release all the shorts again in 2014/2015?

I have seen that some shorts have been completely remastered (colours are more accurate, no flickering/scratches/dirt, sound is better) and with their original title cards. This is perfectly seen in Weihnachtsspass mit Donald blu-ray disc.

I don't know about original titles though,
Der Fuehrer's Face is the greatest Donald Duck cartoon ever made.

Yeah, like Thru the Mirror for example, original titles on the Treasures set, yet for whatever reason, faux titles on the Alice in Wonderland Blu-ray.

Another example; The Band Concert. The one on Disney.com (or at least was) had the original United Artists Mickey card but The Band Concert card, good looking it may be, was fake. Incidentally, the original titles to that ARE found!:

We are in 2016 and still no signs of an upcoming blu-ray with classic shorts. I give up.

The shorts are not the priority so far as classic Disney goes. The A-List live-action library is. Hence why so much of that has come out on Blu-ray the last few years via the Disney Movie Club. Also, the Animated Classics, which is why so many of those have come out. Past that, Disney's more focused on digital sadly, and even that they are doing a crappy job with.

I guess all we could is just hope that Disney comes around and releases them. That and keep asking them.

Thankfully, they haven't given up on home video yet and I don't think they will for a long time. ;)

My above comment is not based on my feelings on the matter, so much as what people from the Home Entertainment division have told me just a few years ago. They have not given up on physical media, but they have drastically stripped it down to the bare bones of what it could be. Bob Iger is very clear on what he wants from home entertainment and sadly it has more to do with digital. Which is why I say we need to push and prod as a large mass of fans as much as we can now, and petition Disney for release of as much as we can get on DVD/Blu-ray now. I would not be shocked if Disney were the first studio to end the practice of printing discs first.

Don't get too excited people, no news. At least not yet. I've decided to take matter into my own hands and make a petition to get collections of the Disney shorts on Blu-ray once and for all:

Your words in the petition are spot on. I hope that more pressure will be made on Disney to release all the beatutiful shorts on a new format. It is becoming frustrating to see DVDs in 2017 especially when big screen TVs are so cheap.
