In France, the movie Is titled Zootopie and has a new release date : Feb. 10, 2016 (before : March 23, 2016).

The only difference is that Disney does musicals and Pixar doesn't but even that is about to change now that Pixar's working on their first musical.

I can't wait for the comments to come about how it's the best musical that ever musical'd, just how Merida was the best princess that ever princess'd. I wonder if Lasseter would curse his musical with Randy Newman like he did The Princess and the Frog?

I haven't heard anything like that but I didn't mean that they screen their films to Pixar but that Pixar directors and members of the Brain Trust come to story meetings at WDAS and give notes on their projects.

I didn't say they share directors but they do transfer staff on occasion. John Kahrs comes to mind where he was transferred from Pixar to WDAS.

Yes and no. These two were the only cases (that we know of) where outsiders got a director's position which hardly makes it a standard policy of theirs and there were special circumstances to both of them. Rich Moore was a classmate of Lasseter's at CalArts and Lasseter personally invited him to WDAS and offered him the director's position. He didn't have to move up through the ranks like everyone else. He didn't even have to apply for the job. Jennifer Lee got the job as screenwriter on Wreck-It Ralph in a similar way. Phil Johnston, the screenwriter on Wreck-It Ralph, and classmate and friend of Lee's, got too busy with others projects and needed someone to share the work load. He called her up and gave her the job. So, there's a lot of nepotism involved and it still rarely happens.

It has just been revealed that Ginnifer Goodwin will be voicing the main character Judy Hopps.

“We knew that Zootopia would only succeed if we found the perfect actors to play our main characters,” said director Byron Howard (Tangled, Bolt). “This rabbit- and fox-duo are in practically every scene in the film together. After meeting Ginnifer, we knew she embodied Hopps, the ultimate pure-of-heart, idealist bunny. You fall in love with her character instantly. If they don't show anything for Moana & officially announce Giants at D23 2015, that would be a huge disappointment. At 2013's D23 even with Frozen as the main attraction they still showed these:

If they announced Zootopia in 2013 3 years before its release date, they will definitely announce Giants (2018 is 3 years away). And they have to give us an update on the highly anticipated Moana---especially the announcements of the lucky lady who's voicing Moana & the songwriting team (who is clearly the Lopezes).

I fear that they may not show much if hardly anything about Moana because it will clearly overshadow Zootopia. But now I remember at 2009's D23 these images of Rapunzel "Tangled" were revealed:

I'm absolutely thrilled for Ginny, this is her ultimate dream come true ! She said she's auditioned for basically every lead female role in a Disney film for about 10 years - glad they've finally got onboard with voicing Fawn and now the lead in an animated Classic !

Though I really could have seen her as the voice of Rapunzel or Anna … she has their enthusiasm and zest for life. Actually yes, I'll come out and say it - I'd have loved to have seen her voice a Princess character as she would be around for much longer, rather than just having a feature then Disney pretty much dropping it (a la Wreck It Ralph).

Like everyone else, so excited for Ginny! Now I've got an interest in this movie. I hope it does well, for her! She's wanted this for so long. (Fawn's great, but this is originating her very own character!)

Zootopia (Disney)
This animated film, which Lasseter describes as “classically Disney,” was inspired by the idea of a movie anchored by talking animals who act like humans a la “The Wind in the Willows.” In the city of Zootopia, humans don’t exist, and animals are divided into classes, where they face prejudice based on preconceived notions about their species. The plot focuses on bunny cop Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin)—sidelined into a boring career of writing parking tickets because she’s the first rabbit in the police force—who teams with a fox named Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) to crack a missing mammal case.

One of the gags in the film, where Judy is stalled by a exchange with a sloth who works at the DMV, earned big laughs from the Cannes crowd (and landed with a bite that felt more Pixar than Disney). But the story is still a question mark: it could be great, or it could be something out of Disney Afternoon’s “Duck Tales” or “Darkwing Duck.”
