For the curse, yes the seasons change. I think what it is is, considering the time the curse was placed and how long it seems Belle is there (9 months?) the curse lasts almost 10 or 11 years, but everyone's age is frozen. Just their age, not the seasons or anything else.

OMG YES! he would be a perfect beast. Caitriona Balfe would also make a good Belle now I think of it haha.

Considering the time lapse/issue. I see no reason why it should matter. I always thought the place was cursed 'Once upon a time', the prince turned into a hideous beast (if he didn't find love and redeem himself for eternity) and servants turned into objects(as i see it objects 'live' forever if you don't break them), and everyone in the kingdom forgot about the place. The whole castle looks like faded glory.

Since Maurice got lost and was surprised to find the castle, it was probably never attached to the village we see in the movie in the first place. I don't even think that there was an 'alternative dimension of time' or something like that in the castle(the whole place just caught dust): with casting the spell, the characters just stopped aging as humans(Animals age differently as humans as well, so the beast probably slowly aged as an animal or monster or something).
When the spell was broken, they all got their human form back, returning to what it was before and continuing their human lives. Actually the whole castle just turned back the way it was before. I always thought the castle and everyone in it looked from a different period(even after transforming back) than Belle and her father...

Sam would be a much better Beast/prince than Ryan Gosling. I was so let down when I read about Gosling being rumored as the Beast. After the casting of Watson, I hope I will be happy with the casting of the Beast at least.

Emma Thompson will play a little teapot, short and stout, complete with handle and spout.
The Oscar-winning actress is in negotiations to play Mrs Potts, the housekeeper turned into a teapot, in the live action film version of Disney’s Beauty And The Beast.
The kindly Mrs Potts helps Belle, the tale’s heroine, sort out her romantic entanglements. Emma Watson will star as Belle.
Director Bill Condon has been working with composer Alan Menken about which songs from the 1991 animated movie will feature in the new picture.
I suspect all of them, because they’ve become popular classics. Beauty And The Beast (Tale As Old As Time), sung by Angela Lansbury, won a best song Oscar for Menken and Howard Ashman — though Ashman was nominated and awarded his statuette posthumously.
The live action film is all part of a move by the Disney company to exploit its historic artistic archives in a responsible manner.

Very excited for Emma Thompson to bring her bit of cinematic magic to the film (could she help with script as well ? As she is beyond brilliant at it!) Am surprised as her singing though …. I don't think I've heard her before ?

Is it odd that I could imagine Helena Bonham Carter playing Mrs Potts ? I think she'd be wonderful as well.

The trouble is, BATB as a musical is so ingrained in us with the original cast from the animated film, and even the Broadway cast recording … it will be hard for anyone else to sing these roles. I know Susan Egan has passed comment on Emma playing Belle, but has Paige mentioned it at all ?

I could also picture Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs Potts! She is a brilliant actress and with some make up (in human form) I think she would be a great choice for the part.

First of all there's old and then there's decrepit.

Second of all she should be around the same age Mrs. Potts is supposed to be in the original.

Third of all she has to believably be Chip's mother/nanny/grandmother.

Disney should work what she is out, just like they should work out the curse and background information.

I would be completely fine with Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, although I really doubt she would perform the title song well enough, but I think your reasoning against Angela Lansbury is nonsense. Mrs. Potts is "old and maternal." It doesn't matter what category of "old" you want to subscribe her to, but Angela Lansbury definitely did not look like my image of decrepit the last time I saw her.

No way, I think Emma is going to nail the song! She has such a warmth, wise tone in her voice in some of her movies and she has a great singing voice. She'll do great!

It's Emma's singing that I'm worried about. She JUST started on singing lessons

I can't say I've heard her sing, so I'll leave it at rest. But I think the burden of singing "Beauty and the Beast" is greater than what Emma Watson will have to deal with. The only really challenging song that the audience will have to judge her by is "Belle (Reprise)." I'd say "Home," too, but I'm guessing the average movie-going audience won't have heard it and so won't be able to compare her to Susan Egan.

Mrs. Potts was largely based on the character of Mrs. Bridges from the ITV series "Upstairs, Downstairs," where she was played by Angela Baddeley, who was 67 to 71 when she portrayed the role from 1971 to 1975. Lansbury was 65 when she recorded the role of Mrs. Potts in 1990, and 66 when the film came out in 1991. When the musical debuted on Broadway, 53 year old Beth Fowler played Mrs. Potts. The West End rendition featured 61 year old Mary Millar. Yet neither the animated film nor the stage musical make mention of Mrs. Potts' age, nor do I see any need for it to. If we're playing the game of adding few choice words to simply acknowledge silly details, then surely Chip can go around calling her "Grandma" rather than "Mama."

Also, Lansbury may be 89 today, but she's hardly decrepit. I wouldn't be so quick to write her off just because she's of a certain age. That's ageism at its worst. The woman's been on tour with Blithe Spirit after a successful West End revival (I'll be seeing the play in D.C. when the show tours there at the end of March). She's remained active long after "Murder, She Wrote" ended, be it on the stage or on screen. In fact, her most recent Disney credit was as narrator of the TCM documentary "The Age of Believing: The Disney Live-Action Classics." I'd certainly love to welcome her back into the Disney fold with another chance to play Mrs. Potts beyond the voice.
