Wow, this is like the first time we immediately got a casting announcement right after a decision was made. Wonder how long until we get our Moana? Again, it wouldn't surprised me if Dwayne was the first guy they went to for any role in the movie. BTW: He has a great voice! They made a perfect choice!

He does have a good voice and a lot of charisma. He'll nail a well written/designed character

And part Samoan which is a huge plus as well. :D

Now who will the voice of our main character be. I know they still have a lot of time before they have chosen her but its good that they will be casting a girl of Polynesian descent for this role.

rotfl imagine the agencies receiving that as an audition.

I was actually going to audition singing "Big Hard Sun" not a Broadway song. But the auditions were closed. I couldn't do it last weekend because I was away from home without sound proof rooms and musical instruments. :(

Well, at least Disney is doing a great thing finding a naturally talented Polynesian girl. Unless they shit-brick us and cast Selena Gomez as Moana.

Dave Metzger, who is working as the arranger/orchestrator on Moana confirmed he's working with Robert and Kristen Anderson-Lopez on future projects. The songwriting duo already confirmed that they have a couple of animated musicals in the works post-Frozen which makes them working on Moana an almost given.
Another impact on Metzger has been getting to know "Let It Go" songwriters Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, he said. "They're so normal it's almost funny, especially considering the incredible success they've accomplished. We have a great relationship, and they've invited me to be involved in projects with them moving forward."

Agreed. Just b/c she's Polynesian, it doesn't mean she's perfect.

Sounds like Tony nominee Keala Settle may had auditioned for the movie. Someone on Twitter asked her if she did and she reblogged it. She would be perfect: The nationally and the talent and the experience.

I'm kind of tired of Moana auditions now. Wake me up when she's been cast.

No title change yet? Funny, this is one of the recent Disney films that could actually benefit from it; the current title is kind of porny :-"

We have the Olaf/Genie/Mushu character in the movie:
It seems that Moana‘s pig will take the non-speaking sidekick part, like Sven, or Tangled‘s Maximus or Pascal, while the more Olaf-life or Mushu-style talking sidekick will be, we’ve learned, a Tiki god called Moke Moke who takes the form of a carved tiki statue.

It’s been suggested to us that Moke Moke will be a comedy character with something of the Jemaine Clement about him, but we’ll have to see how that pans out as the film continues to develop.

New info on Maui:
Johnson would be playing the demi-god, Maui, the story’s second lead. The character has been conceived as being somewhat like a once-famous, world champion fighter. As the story begins, he has hung up his deadly fish hook, given up the demi-godly brawling and is living as a recluse.

sigh... come on Disney, lets try to think a little outside the box for once. Youre in the perfect position to do it...we dont need another Tangled/Frozen knockoff...
