Favorite princess dress/wardrobe?

Post by Jay »

Which princess do you think has the best dress or wardrobe? I personally love Anna's coronation dress. I love the colors. The green/black combo really makes it standout from the other outfits the princesses have worn. I also like the dress she wears at the end it's cute. Elsa's ice dress is glorious and her coronation outfit is also very nice. Again I love the deep, rich colors.

Even though she isn't an "official" princess I think Giselle has my favorite wardrobe. I love her big poofy wedding dress, her blue dress she makes from the curtains and the dress she wears when Edward arrives in NYC and they go on their date. Her dress she wears to the ball is also nice.

I also like Jasmine's purple dress that she wears when Prince Ali is meeting the public for the first time. I never understood why they didn't market her in that dress in the princess line. It's much nicer and more princess-like than her turquoise outfit. And purple wasn't really a color in the princess line until Rapunzel. So I'm not sre why they didn't go with that dress.

Other favorites: Aurora's "Briar Rose" look, Belle's "Something There" dress and her green dress she wears when the Beast shows her the library, Ariel's blue town dress, pink dress and her shimmering purple gown at the end.

What about everyone else :D

If I had to rank my favorites, hoping I'm not forgetting any, but:

1. Tiana (bayou wedding gown)
2. Cinderella (silver ball gown)
3. Anna (green dress)
4. Ariel (mermaid--yes, cheating, but w/e)
5. Belle (red Christmas dress)
6. Elsa (snow queen dress)
7. Tiana (white dress with fur)
8. Aurora (Briar Rose wood clothes)
9. Cinderella (wedding dress)
10. Ariel (purple)
11. Aurora (blue dress)
12. Ariel (wedding dress)
13. Belle (yellow ball gown)
14. Mulan (matchmaker dress)
15. Jasmine (purple dress/not ending)
16. Mulan (ending clothes)
17. Cinderella (pink dress)
18. Ariel (blue dress)
19. Anna (traveling clothes)
20. Jasmine (ending purple)
21. Tiana (green dress at the very end)
22. Belle (pink with hood)
23. Megara (with seethrough arm accessory)
24. Snow White
25. Elsa (coronation)

I also like several of the things Mulan wears, but I didn't think most people would count her. EDIT: To add Mulan and then again to make it a solid 25. It's too bad Rapunzel is given only one dress, and I don't even like that one. I wish SW and Megara both had more than one dress, too. If I ranked their overall "wardrobes," I'd pick either Belle or Cinderella. Belle's pink dress looks really nice with the hood overtop. Unfortunately, I've never been supercrazy about Ariel's blue dress or her pink one, although I don't think they're hideous or anything. I do like her wedding dress, even if it is dated. I agree, Jasmine's purple outfit (during "Prince Ali (reprise)") is my favorite of hers.

(You know, it's too bad Thumbelina isn't Disney, just for the fact that I always loved the character's wedding dress at the end. I always like the Swan Queen's main dress, too. And Anastasia's ballgown dress--in the scene where her grandmother finally recognizes her.)

I seem to like the Plain-Jane stuff.

-Ariel's blue dress
-Aurora's Briar Rose dress
-Tiana's yellow dress
-Rapunzel's purple dress
-Ariel's pink nightgown
-Belle's blue dress
-Jasmine's blue harem outfit

Sad thing about Tiana's bayou gown is, despite what the ads would leave people to believe, she only wears it for only about a minute in the actual film.

It's still beautiful. Besides, she has like 5 outfits stuffed into the last 15 minutes of the movie. Probably to make up for all the frog scenes, I guess.

1. Tiana's bayou dress
2. Tiana's second wedding dress
3-6. Every single (I'm not sure if there's more?) other outfit that Tiana wears ever
7. Elsa's blue magically-appearing dress
8. Cinderella's ballgown
9. Esmeralda's normal dress with the purple skirt
10. Mulan's matchmaking outfit
11. Belle's pink winter getup

I'm not really a fan of poofy sleeved ballgowns. Cinderella's an exception because it's simple and elegant, and I like the flouncy skirt style.

I love Thumbelina's main dress. I adore that big Russian royalty dress with the sash that Anastasia wears at the end of the film - gorgeous. The blue opera dress was very classy indeed.

Agree that all of Tiana's looks are amazing.

Despite loving Frozen, I actually find Elsa's snow queen dress and overall design underwhelming. I like all the other clothes in the movie but they could have had something grander for the snow queen design.

I wish Aurora's peasant look was used in promotions more because I love that too, probably the only thing I love about her.

I'm glad that you're including Esmeralda on this list, universALLove (although it's not strange, due to your photos indicating that you're an Esme-fan). Although she's not on the new canon franchise, I love her character (despite her flaws) and her outfits are brilliant, so she deserves to be credited.

Anyway, to give my opinion;

Snow White: Her white dress at the beginning and her regular one.
Cinderella; Her crystall gown and her pink dress.
Aurora; Her pink dress (yes, I'm team pink)..
Ariel: Her pink dress and her wedding gown.
Belle: All of her outfits.
Jasmine: Her regular blue outfit, as well as her red outfit and purple dress.
Mulan's (although I still don't consider her a princess); Her matchmaker dress and her blue dress at the end of the film.
Tiana; her blue-ish gown in the party, her bayou dress and her wedding dress.
Merida; Her blue dress.
Anna: Her regular bunad/travel-dress and her green dress.
Elsa: Her blue ice-dress.

I'm not including Pocahontas and Rapunzel on this list, because they only wear one outfit during their movies. Although I like Pocahontas white gown in the sequel, I didn't include it, since it's not canon.

Rapunzel has a pink dress at the end of the movie (which is the same that she is wearing in Frozen) and the wedding dress from Tangled Ever After.

I re-watched PatF last night and Tiana does have the best wardrobe of the princesses. I also really like Rapunzel's wedding gown.

Yep, almost all of Tiana's outfits are gold. The only I dislike is the ugly green one she wears at the very end of the film; those bizarre sleeves make it just yucky.

I don't like any of the Rapunzel's outfits. The one she wears for the most of the movie looks like it's made of polyester, almost plastic, but worst of all it seems at least a size too small for her.

Jasmine's purple outfit (Prince Ali presentation) is beautiful, but that headband kills it for me. It's just a weird shape that makes her bangs non-existent and makes her hair look like a cobra head.

To be honest, I don't think Tiana has the best wardrobe out of all the Princesses and the brown dress she's wearing at the party is horrible. She definitively has a huge wardrobe, but I don't think it's the best one.

1. Cinderella's silver/blue ballgown (beautiful color, elegant, full poofy skirt, slim, rounded, slightly poofy sleeves, round, poofy bustle at her waist, three pleats in the middle, it's perfection)
2. Aurora's blue princess gown (multi-lined bodice, multi-pleated skirt, flowery-like trim at waist, V-neck with pointed ends at the collar)
3. Belle's gold ballgown (sumptuous, rippled, full skirt, jeweled trim around it, short rippled sleeves with jewels at the center)
4. Giselle's "That's How You Know" gown (great teal and pink colors, not-too-poofy sleeves, over-dress parted to reveal white dress underneath, tied with a pink ribbon that flows down)
5. Giselle's wedding gown (very big skirt and sleeves that match, over-skirt parted to reveal many ruffles)
6. Tiana's bayou wedding gown (fantastic and classy while also using bayou flora and foliage beautifully)
7. Giselle's white and flower-patterned date gown (simple and very pretty, keeps slight poof in the sleeves and volume to the skirt)
Disney's Divinity wrote:13. Belle (yellow ball gown)
I think it's supposed to be gold.
Disney's Divinity wrote:It's too bad Rapunzel is given only one dress, and I don't even like that one.
She has three. The laced bodice one, the poofy sleeved princess one, and the pooofy sleeved wedding one. I don't really like any of them. I would have liked the laced bodice one had they gone with the original off-the-shoulder sleeves.

Cinderella's pink dress before it got ripped.

Aurora's blue dress.

Elsa's blue dress has a rip that lets her left leg show.

It's a shame that there have barely been any films with outfit changes to add some new life to a thread like this since. Really just Frozen II. I do like Raya's outfit and Verona's dress. I like Namaari's overall design, but the look itself isn't really a standout. I like that they used for Mirabel's skirt, but that's about it. It's not really just the female characters, even the male characters had more looks back when.

1. Tiana (bayou wedding gown)
2. Cinderella (silver ball gown)
3. Anna (green dress)
4. Belle (red Christmas dress)
5. Elsa (ice dress)
6. Tiana (white dress with fur)
7. Aurora (blue dress)
8. Elsa (OFC winter dress)
9. Elsa (Frozen II white dress)
10. Cinderella (wedding dress)
11. Ariel (wedding dress)
12. Mulan (matchmaker dress)
13. Anna (Frozen II green queen dress)
14. Jasmine (purple dress/not ending)
15. Cinderella (pink dress)
16. Jasmine (King of Thieves wedding dress)
17. Anna (Frozen II white formal dress)
18. Ariel (sea foam dress)
19. Belle (gold ball gown)
20. Jasmine (ending purple with the see-through veil)
21. Moana (normal outfit)
22. Ariel (pink dress)
23. Namaari
24. Mulan (ending clothes)
25. Anna (traveling clothes)
26. Tiana (green dress at the very end)
27. Moana (pink chief outfit)
28. Ariel (blue dress)
29. Raya (with hat and red coat included)
30. Belle (winter dress and coat with white fur)
31. Belle (blue dress--never really thought about it before, but it's actually similar to Alice's dress)
32. Anna (black dress)
33. Megara (pretty basic, but I do like it)
34. Pocahontas (the white dress from the sequel)
35. Belle (green dress)

I didn't think I should include Ariel's mermaid look, to be fair; I mean, her outfit is a pair of seashells and that's it. The colors of her hair, shells, and tail do work very well together though. I mentioned it that post from years ago, but I still do love Odette's main dress (including the false Odette's black and red dress). Also Thumbelina's grey dress (once her hair is back to normal) is nice and especially the wedding dress is gorgeous, imo (lovelovelove the way the hair is done). I love the blue dress Vanessa wears while on the topic of villains--better without the cape. Maleficent, Cruella, and Tremaine all have great outfits. Verona in Raya is very pretty, too. Yzma's travel dress with the cap is good, but my favorite of hers is the pink empress dress she wears after Kuzko's funeral. It's a shame it's blink-and-you'll-miss-it. Like with Ariel, love Ursula's design, but it's hard for me to think of her outfit as a dress so much as her body.

We should make a thread like this for the male characters, too, actually. Aladdin's Prince Ali design, his purple "wedding" outfit, Kristoff's green outfit in Frozen II, Tarzan in his father's suit, The Prince from Snow White, Eric (black clothes), Human Beast in his ballroom clothes at the end, Naveen's bayou wedding and church wedding outfits as well as the prince costume, etc. They have a lot of great ones, too. As far as male villains, Shan-Yu with the fur coat was always great.

I don't like the move away from European fairy tales Disney is going, which may be the culprit. Oh well, at least Encanto had great characters. And God that guy the flower sister was gonna marry. Damn!

Thumbelina has a grey dress? Her wedding dress is really very beautiful, but they stole the pleats going down the center from Cinderella's silver ball gown for both Thumbelina's wedding dresses for the Mole and for Cornelius. Still, yes, her hair!!! And I agree with you on the villains except I always loved Vanessa's design most with the cape.

but they stole the pleats going down the center from Cinderella's silver ball gown for both Thumbelina's wedding dresses for the Mole and for Cornelius.
Yeah, a lot of animated dresses have stole that particular detail. Ariel's dresses are of course an amalgamation of all of SW's, Cinderella's, and Aurora's outfits. The pink and blue stolen for her two land dresses were probably taken from the fight over Aurora's final dress. Then the puffs from Snow White's dress on the pink one, the corset on the blue dress like Briar Rose's outfit, the center in both dresses similar to Cinderella's silver dress. Only the sea foam dress and wedding dresses feel like her own; I like the sea foam dress when it's sparkling and I do love the wedding dress despite how dated it is.
Thumbelina has a grey dress?
Image It's the dress she's going to marry the mole in, but it only looks good once her hair is back to normal at the Vale. A shame it's tattered a bit there*, but it really suits the moment where she feels jaded and started not to believe. Similar to Cinderella's moment under the willow tree ("I can't believe...not anymore."). A crisis of faith just before they're transformed (literally in Thumbelina's case).

* Coincidentally, a lot of these animated protagonists have outfits made of rags that are appealing, too.  Snow White's brown rags and blue bow/ribbon (I prefer those colors to her main outfit, actually, yellow is one of my least favorite colors), Ariel's "sails" dress, Cinderella's pink dress in rags, etc.
