I would say The Little Mermaid too strictly from a feature presentation point of view. The restoration was an improvement over the platinum. Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, Peter Pan and The Jungle Book are just HD versions of the platinum edition restorations.Marce82 wrote:Definitely get the Beauty and the Beast Diamond. The long documentary on that is way better than the Platinum bonus.
Im told the Snow White one has pretty in-dept. And maybe the Lion King... it has two new documentaries on it...
From what I;ve read and seen, those are the only ones worth upgrading.

Hmmm... good point about Little Mermaid.
That wasn't enough for ME to re-buy it... but the transfer and colors were very different from the Platinum.
Also.... not technically a Diamond Edition, but I would also recommend getting Dumbo 70th Anniversary Edition. Way better presentation, and it has pretty much every bonus feature released before.

Don't forget Alice in Wonderland, as well!Marce82 wrote:Also.... not technically a Diamond Edition, but I would also recommend getting Dumbo 70th Anniversary Edition. Way better presentation, and it has pretty much every bonus feature released before.

Quite honestly...lord-of-sith wrote:I have a question for you all that's somewhat related!
With the Diamond Edition Blu-Ray releases of the animated classics, I've been wondering which Blu-Rays are worth upgrading from the platinum DVDs. Honestly, having them in HD over DVD quality isn't that important to me for most of the movies, unless it's an upgrade akin to the Sleeping Beauty 2003 DVD to the Blu-Ray(s). I have most of the old Platinum DVDs, so which ones presentation and bonus features-wise would you say are worth getting the blu-rays for?
From a visual point of view (I know you don't care as much, but these are worth the upgrade):
1. Little Mermaid (top priority, especially the 3D if you have a 3D TV. Phenomenal 3D work)
2. Hunchback of Notre Dame
3. Beauty and the Beast.
Also, I heard rumors that a 3D Frozen blu-ray will come out in December.

To be honest, the documentary from "Beauty and the Beast" Diamond edition is the best one and the most in-depth. The ones in "Snow White" are okay, but not superior to the documentaries on the Platinum editions. One in "The Lion King" is good, but unfortunately spends a lot of time elaborating on the stage show. The second one is good as well, but could have been longer.Marce82 wrote:Definitely get the Beauty and the Beast Diamond. The long documentary on that is way better than the Platinum bonus.

I know The Little Mermaid is still in print, but are the mixed-up shot arrangements in "Part of Your World" still in newly produced blu-rays? Honeslty, that's kind of a deal-breaker for me...universALLove wrote:I would say The Little Mermaid too strictly from a feature presentation point of view. But thank you for all of your help! If I stumble upon a Beauty and the Beast blu-ray I'll definitely pick it up, probably the Lion King and maybe Snow White as well. Up until recently I've not had a blu-ray player AND an HD-TV to watch these on, so the DVD's were perfectly fine. Watching Sleeping Beauty in HD has just blown me away so much I wanted to know what else would be worth the leap!

That special feature with Sarah Hyland was dumb as hell. I liked seeing footage of the parade though, as minimal as that was.
I never had Sleeping Beauty on DVD or Blu-Ray before so the other special features were interesting and new to me. And while I still think Sleeping Beauty is extremely lacking in the story and character departments, I was able to appreciate the artistry of the beautiful animation and score more than ever on blu-ray.

I know what you mean. I initially dismissed the idea of Blu-ray but after I bought my first HD TV, DVD just wasn't enough, especially with older films. So I bought a BR player just two years ago along with the BatB DE and was hooked ever since. The clarity and sharpness were just phenomenal.lord-of-sith wrote: But thank you for all of your help! Today I cringe when people watch DVDs on HD TVs

I think so - I don't think Disney recalled the discs but you can always go through the replacement if you can be bothered. Amazon stock may have been changed but I cant say for certain.lord-of-sith wrote: I know The Little Mermaid is still in print, but are the mixed-up shot arrangements in "Part of Your World" still in newly produced blu-rays? Disney UK will no longer issue Little Mermaid Replacements and deny all knowledge in case anyone is interested
As for upgrades - Snow White, Beauty and the Beast for picture and extras.
Pinocchio has a good cinexplore feature. Alice and Bambi have similar features.
I think bluray really suits animation. I haven't upgraded any of my films to bluray except the Disney films because the picture quality is usually very good. The CAPS films look particularly good - Pocahontas, Aladdin and HoND. Just avoid SitS.

Anyone else find it weird that Dvdizzy hasn't posted a Sleeping Beauty DE review yet?
Not only that, seems to have been pushed back twice on the list of upcoming reviews...

What about the "inside Walt's story meetings" feature on Lady and the Tramp? Is that worth the upgrade?MeerkatKombat wrote:

The platinum didn't have a commentary.
Bambi did have something similar on the platinum, but I hear the feature on the Blu Ray is more extensive.

Re: Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition Blu-ray - 2014
Just having a browse on the iTunes store Sleeping Beauty is available for download and the artwork is the villains slipcover with Maleficent - I would therefore assume that the Maleficent slipcover is coming.
However, here is what confused me - under iTunes extras they list the Diamond edition extras from the US release......wtf?
So we do get Sleeping Beauty as a Diamond edition but only if we buy it on iTunes or is this a mistake? Its £9.99 in SD and £13.99 in HD.

So weird...
I miss the old days when they only did reviews for Disney DVDs and before the release date...

Re: Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition Blu-ray - 2014
Not sure if anyone noticed or not. But, today I received my new DMC monthly package, and it shows a "New to the Club" blu-ray dvd of Sleeping Beauty with an entirely different cover art than the 3 I have seen( the Best Buy exclusive, standard blu ray and dvd packaging); perhaps it is a foreign market cover used?
Re: Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition Blu-ray - 2014
justcuttinhair, is it the cover of Aurora and Maleficent standing back to back, with Aurora in her Briar Rose outfit ? If so, thats the UK version of the cover.

dang it! you would ask me that question right after i threw away the new mailer. i believe that it is the cover that was released for the Bluray edition in Brazil. If anyone on the board still has the mailer, it is on the main catalog, in the "Coming Soon" section

They are restocked at Amazon. I ordered mine a few months ago and received the correct version.MeerkatKombat wrote:I think so - I don't think Disney recalled the discs but you can always go through the replacement if you can be bothered. Re: Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition Blu-ray - 2014
I finally received the blu-ray and the Legacy Collection!

Even if it doesn't have a lot of new bonus features, I really enjoyed them.
I thought that "Once Upon a Parade" would be a commercial for the park, but it's a short story starring Sarah Hyland and the characters from the park! It's a very cute story.
I also enjoyed "Generation of Disney Villains" and the deleted scenes are very interesting, too.
