Death of the Disney Afternoon DVDs?
Re: Death of the Disney Afternoon DVDs?
Bummer that they haven't followed up yet and finished off some of the more popular Disney Afternoon cartoons.

I was hoping they'd at least finish off DuckTales and Darkwing Duck.
The ultimate for me would be a complete series set of Bonkers but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Don't loose hope. A few months ago a little bird told me that at least one of the current Disney Afternoon shows waiting on a final release will be coming to the Disney Movie Club before the year is out. Hopefully *fingers crossed!* nothing happens to those plains. That's all I can share for now, just keep watching the DMC!
I have not checked into this myself yet, however a Russian fan has told me that the complete Bonkers is on DVD in Russia. Might be something interesting to look into?tlc38tlc38 wrote: The ultimate for me would be a complete series set of Bonkers but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

In case anyone here missed it, Wal-Mart Canada has some interesting new titles on their shelves. Tale a look!

Anyone remember "Marsupilami"? I'd like to see that come to DVD!

Re: Death of the Disney Afternoon DVDs?
I'd love to see it get a proper release as well, I'm just worried that of the titles in question, it may be the biggest long shot due to it not being a Disney property. I'm not sure what the agreement between Disney and Marsu is.tlc38tlc38 wrote:Anyone remember "Marsupilami"? I'd like to see that come to DVD!
On a separate note, Goof Troop: Volumes 1 & 2, Gargoyles: S.2-V.2, TaleSPin: Volume 3, Goof Troop Christmas and DuckTales: The Movie are being sold at Wal-Mart stores in the US. These titles are still set for a wider release in January, but outside of the DMC, this is the only way to pick these up for the Holidays, and at around $10 each, these will make perfect gifts this year!

Re: Death of the Disney Afternoon DVDs?
I suppose there's no reason to assume that these new releases are any different from the Disney Movie Club versions (sans the cover art)? For example, I already have the "Disney Exclusives" version of the DuckTales movie, so there's no reason to double dip, right? This is the exact same disc in a new package?
Anyway, it's very cool that these are popping up. I'm not even a fan of these shows, but I might just pick up the Goof Troop discs to encourage future releases. I need to finish Gummi Bears, DuckTales, Rescue Rangers, and Darkwing, darn it! I'm crossing my fingers and toes that we'll get an Aladdin release sometime (and possibly Pooh!).

This is what someone said in the Gargoyles Station 8 Comment Room:Pasta67 wrote:I suppose there's no reason to assume that these new releases are any different from the Disney Movie Club versions (sans the cover art)? I'll be picking up Gargoyles-- I can't have too much Gargoyles on my shelf.I've already picked it up at my Walmart. They are already available here in Canada (but not on the Wal Mart Website). It is the same as the Disney Movie Club Exclusive, but with new packaging. The Package art is much better. The discs have different art, too, if you can call it art. It's jsut a grey background with a big "TV Y7" on it. The disc content is the same.
Speaking of those movie tie-in shows, it just boggles the mind why Disney hasn't released them to DVd. I would buy The Little Mermaid in a heartbeat! Now you've got parents, too, who were raised on these shows and should be more than willing to pick them up for their own kids..
I guess they will continue to sit on them, year after year, until they make them DMC Exclusives and become shocked when people purchase those titles.

Re: Death of the Disney Afternoon DVDs?
These "new" titles (Gargoyles, Goof Troop, TaleSpin, DuckTales) are in fact the exact same releases as the Disney Movie Club Exclusives from a year ago or older, just in new packaging. It's really great news seeing this actually as the point of the DMC Exclusives really is to sell titles that Disney Home Entertainment for whatever reason feels would not sell well enough in a general retail environment but that still has some kind of a nitch following. Clearly these titles have been selling very well for the DMC to the point that they feel even more money can be made by going retail with them.
Regardless if you buy these from the exclusive window that Wal-Mart has been given now or the wider retail release in January, if we are going to see more Disney Afternoon-era animation make it to DVD, these HAVE to sell really well. At the end of the day, that is what the people at DHE base future releases on, how well the current stuff is selling. So, if you have not yet picked one of these titles up yet, please do now. If you have, Christmas and the Holidays are coming, they make great gifts! Also, don't forget to spread the word and let other fans know about these on other areas of the internet and wherever else you might be with fellow Disney Afternerds.
Things are looking up, more is coming, but right now have this new batch of retail release do well will be very important for possible future sets. And who knows, if they do well enough, next time Disney might just skip the DMC altogether and put future DA releases out directly in retail stores! Help make that happen.

Re: Death of the Disney Afternoon DVDs?
I just picked up a copy of the Gargoyles set (I would have the other day, but I wanted to get a copy of the first season that they had beforehand, since I was still missing it), and I hope to go back for TaleSpin and to find the Goof Troop releases.
I'm definitely trying to do my part and get other people to go get these releases. The more, the better!

I wonder if that omnibus will have the DuckTales crossover in it, just parts as in DW issue form or not at all.milojthatch wrote:It's not DVD news, but the DA shows are making a comic book comeback!

Re: Death of the Disney Afternoon DVDs?
I know they are Saturdays Morning but I want Aladdin and Little Mermaid and don't know why these haven't been released yet.
I'd also buy The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and wish there was an affordable R2 Gummi Bears set although I don't think any of us will ever see series 4-6 of Gummi Bears.
Eventually I'll pick up the remaining Rescue Rangers and Ducktales volumes although us UK people have less episodes per set...

It seems like the omnibus won't have those issues at all, but Magica's appearances earlier will remain.JiminyCrick91 wrote:I wonder if that omnibus will have the DuckTales crossover in it, just parts as in DW issue form or not at all.milojthatch wrote:It's not DVD news, but the DA shows are making a comic book comeback!

No, the new omnibus will be everything else DW from the original BOOM! run. I got this from the source, but Disney didn't like the DW/DT crossover, so it may never get a re-print ever. From what I understand, they may never crossover again either, which would be sad, but what can you do?JiminyCrick91 wrote:I wonder if that omnibus will have the DuckTales crossover in it, just parts as in DW issue form or not at all.milojthatch wrote:It's not DVD news, but the DA shows are making a comic book comeback!

I can't comment on the UK, but at least in the US, I seriously doubt that more Disney Afternoon-era titles will not be coming at some point. The "new" stuff from last year that has now gone retail is clearly selling well. 2015 (the 25th anniversary of the Disney Afternoon block in the US) should be a wonderful year for Disney Afternerds!MeerkatKombat wrote:I know they are Saturdays Morning but I want Aladdin and Little Mermaid and don't know why these haven't been released yet.

At least in the US, Aladdin was both on Saturday mornings on CBS and officially part of the DA block. Part of the issue that has been shared with me is that Disney is very specific and (in my opinion) overly cautious about their "franchises", of which Aladdin and Mermaid are part of. They have been mining a few episodes from each series for Princess collections. It is possibly we may finally see full series sets in the future. We'll just have to see how it goes and hope for the best as well as remind the powers that be that we want to see this happen. The best way is to buy what has been released from a retail store.

Even though I haven't had time to read it, that makes me extra glad I random ally found the Boom trade of the crossover back in March for cover price.milojthatch wrote:No, the new omnibus will be everything else DW from the original BOOM! run. What is "Have Yourself a Goofy Little Christmas"?
Is it an episode of Goof Troop? Or is it a special based on Goof Troop?

This is what I'm hoping will be released, too. I wish I could support to encourage future releases, but I don't really like Darkwing Duck, Gargoyles, TaleSpin, Goof Troop, or Rescue Rangers. I would watch a couple of them if they were on TV, but not really interested in owning them.MeerkatKombat wrote:I know they are Saturdays Morning but I want Aladdin and Little Mermaid and don't know why these haven't been released yet.

DuckTales is the only thing released so far I would buy (and have bought). I would like Aladdin, Hercules, TLM, New Adventures of WtP, Gummi Bears, Bonkers, and possibly Pepper Ann, Kim Possible, Jungle Cubs, 101 Dalmatians, and Marsupilami.
