Re: Disney Animation on Blu-ray in 2014
Wow! It looks like Disney have done a total 180 from The Sword in the Stone to present us with what seems be not only a decent, but possibly terrific transfer.
Don't know if this is a stupid idea, but provided the Ichabod and FaFF releases feature excellent video and audio quality, do you think it would help if we send Disney emails to congratulate them on a good job well done? I'm critical of the company as much others, but a good thing is a good thing, and I think they should know that we appreciate good video quality as much as we hate shoddy jobs like those of The Sword in the Stone.
By the way, the Ichabod/FancyFree 2-Movie Collection will also have The Reluctant Dragon, in FULL, in HD.

Absolutely! Letting them know we're pleased with their product is great for customer service! No one only wants to hear from someone when they have something to complain about. Letting them know we're happy will help encourage them to continue that. It helps for them to not only know what we don't want but what we do want.Jules wrote:Don't know if this is a stupid idea, but provided the Ichabod and FaFF releases feature excellent video and audio quality, do you think it would help if we send Disney emails to congratulate them on a good job well done? Collectors interested in steelbook releases of Pocahontas, Hercules, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mulan, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland etc, etc should check out www.zavvi.com They have their own steelbook releases of all sorts of movies, and promotes their Disney steelbook selection (and a Pixar collection as well). Hercules, Mulan, Hunchback and Pocahontas are among their most recent releases.

Re: Disney Animation on Blu-ray in 2014
I've posted about this before on the Blu-ray.com forum, but, I have to say, Zaavi's Hunchback steelbook is a huge let-down for me. It pretty much recycles the film's original VHS cover (which was never that attractive in the first place) but omits the single neatest thing ABOUT said cover. Namely: Frollo. The American VHS for Hunchback had that same artwork (Quasimodo swinging down off Notre-Dame with Esmeralda on his back and the Gargoyles clapping him on in the background), but, over the title banner, Frollo leered menacingly. (This was a staple of 90s Disney VHS releases, it seemed, and it was always one of my favorite touches: the villain over--or, sometimes UNDER--the main artwork.) ANYWAY, their Hercules release looks BEAUTIFUL. THAT is how you work with the original theatrical poster!
My dream Hunchback steelbook would have this as the front-cover:
And this as the back:
Zaavi's looks very child-like and crude...as if no one on their design team has ever WATCHED the film. It's too bright and cheery and colorful. And Hunchback is a somber and oftentimes melancholic film.

It's the same art as the VHS release only without Frollo:ProfessorRatigan wrote: Zaavi's looks very child-like and crude...as if no one on their design team has ever WATCHED the film. It's too bright and cheery and colorful. And Hunchback is a somber and oftentimes melancholic film.

So, even though the US release DOES contain extras (and certainly much more than Europe´s release) they´re still (aside from the commentary) nothing spectacular both in therm of amount and length.

Ichabod stand alone release will come with Bluray+DVD+Digital copy and the 2-movie collection with FaFF will not have the Digital Copy but will have The Reluctant Dragon in HD.stevemcqueen wrote:What?!disneyboy20022 wrote:There's actually two versions.
One is just the Blu Ray Combo Pack of Ichabod and Mr. Toad and there is a separate one that has all three, to which I don't think that cover art has been posted. The Cover Art you see right now is just for the Ichabod and Mr. Toad Blu Ray by itself. I imagine there will be differ art for the 3 movie collection.
So if I want to own both movies and the digital copy for Ichabod, the only way is to buy both sets?? They never included digital copies in the 2-Movie Collections, right?

Disney Brazil announced at the Expo Disney 2014 that they will be releasing Aladdin on Blu-ray next year. A U.S. release can't be that far away.

Guys, do you plan on abandoning physical media soon and only buy Digital HD copies? Or are you skicking to blurays for now? Just curious!

I would hate to abandon my ever-growing physical library, but if they keep up these lousy releases with no bonus features and awful cover art, I don't see why I should keep buying and double-dipping. At least with iTunes or whatever other service now offering HD, we really can have them forever since they honor previous purchases thanks to cloud services. You can also edit covers.
I mean, I'm sure Disney is just squeezing the last few pennies out of physical copies with these bare-bones discs and getting ready for digital.
EDIT: My first point was going to be that they are usually cheaper. Also, I am mainly talking about Disney.

The day you can only buy digital (or at least not copy it to a disc) is the day I stop buying movies. Not a fan of the digital moment at all for a number of reasons. I want to own my movies, not rent them thank you very much.pick wrote:Guys, do you plan on abandoning physical media soon and only buy Digital HD copies? Or are you skicking to blurays for now? On a separate note, does anyone know what extra's are on the various international versions of Hercules on Bluray?

If physical releases become a collector's medium, then of course I'll always buy when given the choice-- I'm a collector. But if physical releases are completely phased out or a title is only available on digital, then of course I'll purchase digital-- I'm a cinephile.
