Herbie Casting update

Post by Mr. Toad »

from jayski.com

Another 'Herbie' NASCAR Movie update: Matt Dillon has signed on to play the heavy in the Walt Disney Co.'s ''Herbie: Fully Loaded,'' opposite Lindsay Lohan and Michael Keaton. Additionally, sources said Breckin Meyer is in negotiations to join the cast. In ''Herbie: Fully Loaded'' -- which will set the mysteriously strong-willed Volkswagen Beetle in the world of NASCAR -- Dillon takes the role of Trip, the bad boy of the racing circuit. Meyer would play Lohan's brother; Keaton is playing the duo's dad.(Chicago Sun Times), see past news on the Herbie/NASCAR movie on my NASCAR Movie News page.(8-8-2004)

This news is a couple of days old, as I updated the "Coming to Theaters" page when I heard it.

So Matt Dillon is gonna play the bad boy, and Lindsay Lohan will have Breckin Meyer for a bro and Michael Keaton for a father. Hmm, this doesn't sound too promising, but it wouldn't take a whole lot to be a step up from "Herbie Goes Bananas."

Oops sorry Luke, you can delete this thread if you want.

My thoughts though - Michael Keaton is excellent news. I havent seen Matt Dillon in anything for ages but I liked him 20 years ago in stuff like Rumblefish and Tex. Lindsay Lohan has been pretty good so far. Never heard of the other guy though.

I'm a bit excited, I like Matt Dillion, Keaton, and Lohan, never heard of the fourth guy but yea, I hope it doesn't let down too bad.

Breckin Meyer has been in Go, Clueless, Garfield: The Movie, and the short-lived ABC sitcom "Married to the Kellys."

He was also in Road Trip, Rat Race, and a short-lived but funny sitcom of his own.

That was a funny tv show! My dad loved it! It's sad to see it cancelled. :( Not only that, but they stopped playing the summer reruns on TGIF!

Breckin Meyer also played the brother of Meg Ryan in Kate and Leopold.

I think it was called Inside Schwartz...I just remember the commercials where he was living life normally with the odd exception that Sportscasters were announcing everything he was doing. Was this what the show was like?? :?

Yeah, that was it! That was pretty much the premise- his job was related to sports, too. It was a very funny show, I was sad to see it go.

I really hope this Herbie movie becomes more successful then the other sequels Disney made in the 70's and 80's.

Your answer: There are four herbie movies: Love Bug, Rides Again, Goes to M. Carlo. Also a short-lived TV series.

Can someone explain this to me:

I am not a NASCAR fan. But my general understanding of NASCAR is that it is generally a forum for cars made in North America (hence the NA of NASCAR). How would a VW qualify for this?

Well I happen to be a NASCAR fan, big time. Even named my daughter Daytona.

Anyways, foreign cars arent specifically banned but nor are they encouraged. Foreign cars have won only in very few circumstances in the 50 plus years of NASCAR. If I remember correctly a Jaguar won at Riverside, California. Further, Toyota has just entered into the realm of NASCAR although they do not yet race in the top level of Nextel Cup. I believe they are planning on running in 2006.

So to answer your question, yes a VW could theortically race in NASCAR. Although, it certainly wouldnt be the Bug. It would be the equivalent of the Ford Taurus.

I have just returned to this board after an absense of about two years.

I'm just a little worried because the premise that seems to come to my mind is very much like Motocrossed (girl in a generally male-dominated sport, supportive brother etc...)

Didn't Wonderful World of Disney make a TV remake like they did with Freaky Friday and the Shaggy Dog?

BTW Prince Adam, I like your new avatar! I'm glad to see you were successful in finding/making a Wicked avatar.

Yes, but who's going to be playing Herbie! I hope it's not one of those bland "new" Beetles. :(
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Herbie

Post by Disney Guru »

Don't forget the Herbie Hotel in Florida. Where as you enter the Hotel you see a big Herbie. And you see giant tools. Like a Monkey Wrench and many more. I have never been there but I have heard it is totally awesome.
