James Garner (1928-2014)

Post by Disneyphile »

Legendary actor James Garner -- star of "The Rockford Files" and "The Notebook" -- has died ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell us an ambulance was dispatched to the actor's home in Los Angeles around 8PM Saturday evening ... and he was dead when they arrived on scene.

This is very sad. I had read he had been ill recently, but I thought he had recovered. He was a great actor.

James Garner was a great friend of Julie Andrews and together they co-starred in three movies: One Special Night, Victor/Victoria, and The Americanization of Emily. Both Julie and James have gone on record as saying "Emily" was their favorite film of their respective careers. I'm partial to Victor/Victoria and the sappy romantic in me is always reduced to tears by his and Gena Rowland's' final scenes in The Notebook.

May he rest in peace.

Had the extreme pleasure of meeting James Garner on the set of "Support Your Local Sheriff" and he introduced me to Harry Morgan. Mr. Garner was a total gentleman, and didn't hide behind any masks. What you see is what you got.

Can't think of a bad movie he was in, but my list of remembered films is too long to list here. I was also a big fan of the "Maverick" television series and thanks to WalMart I have collected all five seasons of the show on DVD.

R.I.P.: James Garner

He was a heck of an actor, yes. I really enjoyed what I've seen of his film work and The Rockford Files, which will live forever to prove his worth. RIP

I remember his '70s Disney films One Little Indian (I had such a crush on Clay O'Brien) and The Castaway Cowboy. But my favorite film of his was Victor/Victoria. Didn't he also do a film set in Disneyland in the early '60s with Suzanne Pleshette?

"I know I'm forgetting something. I got the cargo, the crystal, the crew... Oh yeah."

I also remember him when he was "8 Simple Rules", joining the show after John Ritter's death. I know he was on a few other shows, but never watched them.

For me, it'll always be Atlantis. Really the only role of his I ever bore witness to. A true legend, an early TV pioneer, and an all-around wonderful person, as far as I could guess. He will be missed.

I must remember to get my hands on Indian, Castaway Cowboy, and The Distinguished Gentleman (his only other Disney film credit; wonder how big a role it was going opposite Eddie Murphy?).

Atlantis is the only movie I've seen that James Garner was in, so I'd have to say that one.

You have probably seen him in a lot of other movies, but just don't realize it. And to say that you enjoyed his performance in "Atlantis", you enjoyed his voice, remember it was an animated film not a live-action film. So enjoyed his voice, not his acting.

Well, a lot of the movies I've watched and enjoyed over the years have mostly been animated films. Besides, I've checked his filmography on Wikipedia and Atlantis is indeed the only movie of his I've seen.

I have oh so many James Garner projects I've enjoyed over the year. Although I'm 27 huge fan of old TV Shows, especially the Universal shows from the 70s-80s. Recently got introduced to Rockford Files through Netflix totally blown away it was a brilliant show. Have always loved him in the Doris Day films he did The Thrill of it All and Move Over Darling. He was great in Breathing Lessons a Hallmark film he and Joanne Woodward did in the early 90s, loved him in Boys Night Out. Also he was great in 8 Simple Rules, was so sad when Ritter passed away but those first couple episodes with Garner and Suzanne Pleshette as the grandparents were so sweet and I was so glad that they kept Garner on.

An amazing and talented actor who will be missed. RIP Mister Garner.
