The characters would often look off-model, the colorings of the characters would often be inaccurate, etc.

So, things like the new Mickey Mouse do a better job on the smaller budgets. And the new Mickey shorts ARE well-drawn and their character designs ARE NOT crude in any way, shape or form whatsoever.
Disney's movie based cartoons were not trying "too hard". But that isn't saying that they weren't trying "at all" either. While it's true that TV cartoons are made under a smaller budget (which is why I don't demand that they should look absolutely the same as their theatrical quality animation to be good), it is never a bad thing for cartoons to strive for looking the very best that they can under that budget. Just look at Gargoyles and you'll see my point. Also, I can't help but take offense of the term "cheapquels" now for Disney's direct-to-video work. I won't get into how good or bad people think the stories were, but it irritates me to always see fans accuse the sequels of having "bad animation", when in hindsight I don't think they ever really did in light of all the Flash styled TV cartoons you see today. From my perspective, all of Disney's direct-to-video sequels had better animation than these new Mickey shorts, even Return of Jafar. Heck, Return of Jafar as a whole had better animation than that one parody on Family Guy where Seth was trying to mock Disney for making sequels with "Aladdin 4: Jafar May Need Glasses" (not to mention that Jafar was actually Jafar and not voiced by some emotionless guy who's not even trying to get in character).

I'm sorry to disagree, but Mickey's new design is crude and not well-drawn. Forcing characters to look on-model should not mean that you should strip their designs down and cheapen them to such an extent that they can't even look as good as how they've always looked in animation before. All the old Warner Bros. animators had different drawing styles for Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, but the one thing they had in common was that they all drew the characters better than The Looney Tunes Show does. And when Tiny Toon Adventures made their own characters, they tried to be as good as that. My point is, if you're going to do Classic Mickey, he should look as good as this:

...any any artist should want him to.

But I don't know why I'm still sticking my nose into what you have to say about it when I'm supposed to be ignoring you and you could be doing the same. Please, just don't get on my case about it.

I agree with 2DDisney for one. The animation in this show is very cheap and I think this Ren and Stimpy approach to these timeless characters works terribly. What's missing is Mickey slapping Minnie and beating the shit out of Donald when he comes drunk from work.

I still can't stand people who bash this fantastic series.

And the commenters are just as bad, with one of them suggesting that Disney should fire the people making this series and replace them with people who have actually seen the classic era cartoons. What are those guys on?! :?

It's one thing to have seen the classic era cartoons and be inspired by them, but it's another thing to want to make the new shorts look as good as those, as best as possible at least. If Paul Rudish really thinks he's replicating the classic style of Mickey, then I don't think he's doing it right.

I think that article was more concerned about the shorts themselves and less about the quality thereof. The author even admitted to having mixed feelings about them, liking some shorts better than others.

And tonight there's going to be a new short called "Goofy's Grandma". Once again, Goofy maintains his status as the one to appear the most amount of times, next to Mickey.

Once again, a short was shown on TV, but it has not yet been shown online. What's going on with that?

1. Disney probably wants people to tune in to their channel for ratings.

2. It takes until Saturday morning or evening for a new short to appear online (although it's now available On Demand via my cable provider)

That seems to be the trend now. its easier to track ratings when its through your cable provider. They did the same with Girl meets world, even debuting an ep there before airing on tv.

And now, there doesn't seem to be any more shorts to look forward to for the foreseeable future. There is one short supposedly in the wings called "The Boiler Room", but so far, no official date has been confirmed.

I'm sure there's more shorts will be coming soon. You'll see.

Will you relax? I'm sure there's more shorts will be coming soon. You'll see.
Exactly! Besides, the series was already renewed for a third season anyway.

disneyphilip and TsWade2, the author in question of the blog posted is actually a member of this forum. As such, our forum's rules regarding personal attacks still apply. By extension, discussing the member's blog as idiotic or its readers as idiotic jerks does constitute a personal attack. Though the blog itself is not covered by our rules, its members are, especially when they are being discussed here on this forum.

The moderators are not known to "censor" posts, but given the personal request by the member, I've removed all links to his blog, and will amend the offending posts to remove any and all personal attacks.

If somebody posts an opinion that differs from yours, that is no justification for personal attacks of any kind. Better words exist to show disagreement rather than flippant declarations of idiocy. We've had previous complaints before regarding such behavior; it will not be tolerated.

Okay, I stand corrected: there is a new short coming on August 8, a rather-interesting sounding one called "Donald the Sailor".

Where did you hear that?

I also wonder if it'll have Donald's name of the title instead of Mickey's, just as how "Eau de Minnie" was a "Minnie Mouse" cartoon rather than a "Mickey Mouse" one.
