Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition Blu-ray - 2014
Re: Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition Blu-ray - 2014
I´m one that´s always complaining about the lack of or creation of new extras when it comes to these releases. However, when they´re done incredibly well... what else can they do?.
The original Special Edition DVD was amazing. Everything you could hope for and more. Then, there´s the Platinum Edition that, let´s face it, it WAS the Diamond Edition; thing was Disney had to finish the Platinum line. And this edition added even more than the Special Edition. So, what else could they have done?
Plus, when Maleficent comes on BD they will have extras that make obvious references to Sleeping Beauty. So there´s that as well. In some ways, that´ll be sharing content.
And there´s also the fact of the Limited Time claim. If you say something is for a limited time then it HAS to be for a limited time. I´m sorry for the people that didn´t get the movie the first time but, what about us that did support it?
Sorry, but I don´t understand the people that just missed that opportunity. The movie was released for a whole year (with later releases being pack alongside The Princess and the Frog and Snow White; in Spain at least). How come they couldn´t get it? More so, if they knew Disney policies regarding these movies since the Snow White DVD release.
That they didn´t have a BD player back then? Neither did I when I bought it.
As such, I understand when they release these movies again that they can´t do the same ones as before (when it comes to that) and in other instances if they can´t add anything if the original had everything.
Plus, let´s wait for what happens with the US release.
In Europe is a thing of chance: 101 Dalmatians and Aladdin were released under no banner and, as far as I can tell, are the same Platinum releases. Then there´s Peter Pan that´s not Diamond but doesn´t come with those extras either. And there´s Treasure Planet released without the extras of the original DVD while Mulan, without any banner, got released with the extras of the 2 Disc Special Edition.

They can almost always put something new that pertains to the creation of the film on each release. I'm guessing there are tons and tons of things in the Disney archives. Maybe small things, maybe things that are similar to what we've already had, or things that are very close to the final product of the film itself, but they could probably put something new that pertains to the creation of the film on every release for about a thousand releases.
Character sketches, un-used plot details, animation drawings and tests, etc. I even know of a few things that didn't make it onto a home video release.

I asked some people who bought the new release on blu-ray.com, and they have all said it contains the same trailers down to the 5 year old Pinocchio platinum edition.Atlantica wrote:Wait, even the trailers are the same?? Really ?

That doesn't surprise me one bit. Disney still sells the old non-anamorphic Pocahontas DVD from the late 90's in Germany. All they changed is the cover- and disc-art. If I remember correctly they didn't even change the "Disney Home Video" trailer, which is still the one they used during the late VHS era:

For UK/European users:
UK Blu-ray has gone down to £12.99 on Amazon -- not much, but it's still cheaper than £15.00.

Thats absolutely SHOCKING to include the original release trailers; I can't believe Disney have sunk so low. Why even bother to do different cover art?
My boyfriend got me this as a gift at the weekend, so I'll have a look myself tonight hopefully.

The same thing happened with Atlantis. They´re still selling the full screen version.
And that goes for all the DVDs. They can go away with it since they´re using the same previous old DVD art.
Re: Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition Blu-ray - 2014
Sleeping Beauty already available in Spain in BD and DVD.
Not Diamond Edition and lacks all the extras of the Platinum. If fact, I just discovered that is the same first disc of that edition.

Final German cover art:

On the German Disney press server it's still listed as 2-Disc-set (Blu-ray + Bonus Blu-ray).

Re: Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition Blu-ray - 2014
Hmmm Germany is keeping the 'Diamond Edition' branding then ? How confusing, I thought the whole of Europe had abandoned it.

Yeah, me too.Atlantica wrote:Hmmm Germany is keeping the 'Diamond Edition' branding then ? How confusing, I thought the whole of Europe had abandoned it.
I read somewhere it will have two versions: one being a single disc release, and the other one being a 2-disc release (with a slipcover).Scamander wrote: On the German Disney press server it's still listed as 2-Disc-set (Blu-ray + Bonus Blu-ray).
I hope the 2-disc version will have the bonus features found on the American Diamond Edition.

There'll be two releases, but both will contain 2 discs. The difference is that the Collector's Edition will be a digibook.
I doubt it. The US-release contains only one Blu-ray, so it looks like we will get a re-release of the Platinum Edition just like the rest of Europe, but with the difference, that it will also include the bonus disc. That also matches with the information from various websites. I don't think however, that the majority of new bonus features on the US-release sounds promising either way. The German release will be the better deal for everyone who missed out on the Platinum release, since most of the old bonus features are missing from the US-release. At least *IF* the information provided by Disney Germany are correct. I'm still skeptical about that.I hope the 2-disc version will have the bonus features found on the American Diamond Edition.

If you live in the UK and you never got the platinum edition, it's now available for £12 in CEX.

I think it looks great.
Re: Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition Blu-ray - 2014
I think its the awful sidewise titling that always throws everything off.
It used to be the GIANT main character heads, now its sidewise titles.
