Rank *all* the animated classics that you've seen in order!
Re: Rank *all* the animated classics that you've seen in ord
I am currently watching through the entire canon. Supposed to go through in order, but that became a non-starter due to me acknowledging that I would most likely fail to do so, plus I didn't want to watch Snow White first. So instead, last month, by random selection, I started with the Black Cauldron. As predicted, I only saw 6 films. The combo of Sword/Pooh/Saludos killed me. I thought the first was terrible, the second dragged and the third was not really what I would consider a film, and knowing I had 4 more to go...I couldn't do it. Re-started this month and after scrambling through the package features in a day, with other things to occupy me, I'm now up to 16. So, here's what it looks like as of today.
1. Winnie the Pooh (2011)
2. Hercules (1997) *
3. Robin Hood (1973) *
4. Pinocchio (1940)
5. Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad, The (1949) *for Mr. Toad only
6. Oliver & Company (1988)
7. Great Mouse Detective, The (1986)

9. Cinderella (1950) *
10. Melody Time (1948)

Wow, many of you haven't seen the entire canon? Why is that?
I mean, I myself haven't, but they aren't easy to come by.

Re: Rank *all* the animated classics that you've seen in ord
I've seen all the animated canon, it was a quest i made myself do to see what is *exactly* the Disney essence. Seeing Disney's biggest hits and biggest downfalls back to back while also taking in mind the behind-the-scenes and the historical context, gives you a good idea about Disney.
I've also seen all the DTV sequels/cheapquels as well (at least the sequels to the films of the animated canon), just to see all the conmotion about.
I admit I don't watch much live-action Disney though. Or television Disney.

Re: Rank *all* the animated classics that you've seen in ord
Yeah, I was just talking about their "Classic" list. Don't think I'd waste any more time on DTV stuff that I'm sure I must have seen a couple in my childhood. I mean, for me, they don't show on TV, there is no streaming and no real avenue to get DVDs etc so hard to watch them all. But I would have thought most people here would have seen them all considering they've only a few left to watch. Haha, guess they must really not want to see them.thedisneyspirit wrote:I've seen all the animated canon, it was a quest i made myself do to see what is *exactly* the Disney essence. Anyway, my list has been updated now to include the following:
1. Aristocats, The (1970) *
2. Winnie the Pooh (2011)
3. Hercules (1997) *
4. Robin Hood (1973) *
5. Pinocchio (1940)
6. Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad, The (1949) *for Mr. Toad only
7. Jungle Book, The (1967) *
8. Mulan (1998) *maybe just the music videos though
9. Oliver & Company (1988)
10. Great Mouse Detective, The (1986)
11. Black Cauldron, The (1985)
12. Cinderella (1950) *
13. Melody Time (1948)
14. Fun and Fancy Free (1947)
15. Make Mine Music (1946)
16. Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The (1977)
17. Saludos Amigos (1943)
18. Sword in the Stone (1963)
19. Three Caballeros, The (1945)
The Aristocats takes first place. I confirm I don't like the Jungle Book that much and probably first viewing of Mulan. I think a separation of sorts is also starting to take place. Like, tiers and interchangeable movies. Robin Hood/Pinocchio and Ichabod/Jungle/Mulan. The rest not too bothered with.
Re: Rank *all* the animated classics that you've seen in ord
This is my list.
I´m not listing the package films (aside from Ichabod and Mr. Toad) because I haven´t seen them or since I was a kid.
You maybe surprised for several at the bottom but don´t be.
For example there are some that I truly dislike (Home on the Range, Chicken Little) others that never have done anything for me (The Fox and the Hound) mixed with several great ones like Bambi, Fantasia or Lady and the Tramp but that´s just because they bore me.
1.Aladdin
2.The Little Mermaid

Re: Rank *all* the animated classics that you've seen in ord
For not watching much live-action Disney is mostly due to a lack of interest, most stuff they make turn to be awful and boring (the National Treasure series) and they're so many films, the idea of having to watch all of them is exhausting.
Television Disney is due to having fatigue watching TV in general, I can never finish a TV series, it's too tedious for my attention, and also because the Disney shows i'm interested in seeing are all out of air, and impossible to find online or DVDs around.
And I'm not sitting down to watch Fish Hooks.
Funny how varied our ranks in this thread are.

Re: Rank *all* the animated classics that you've seen in ord
I've been rewatching all of the Disney animated canon in order and I've gotten up to The Jungle Book. I've gotten bored of it, so, excluding the films between The Jungle Book and The Little Mermaid (most of which I haven't seen since I was a kid anyways), here's my top list:
1. Bambi (holy cow I forgot how gorgeous this movie is and how affective it acts as an emotional piece, it deserves way more attention than The Lion King as an animal movie where the parent gets killed off and the protagonist needs to overcome their angst and become a leader for all of the other animals...yup
)
2. Lilo and Stitch
3. Hunchback of Notre Dame
4. Beauty and the Beast
5. Lady and the Tramp
6. Pinocchio
7. Aladdin
8. The Jungle Book
9. Cinderella
10. Hercules

Re: Rank *all* the animated classics that you've seen in ord
I like the idea that we should do these once a year.
These are my lists of not just all I've seen, but also, importantly, all I remember well enough!
Objective (Best to worst) list:
1. Beauty and the Beast (I find it to be the finest film they've made. An incredible and well-told story, epic music, sweeping, magical animation, wonderful, complex, deep and heart-felt characters, a powerful romance, the best male protagonist and the second best Disney Princess, and a world you want to live in and explore)
2. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Almost the fairest one of all. It really brings on the emotion and the deep characters and relationships, beautiful imagery, and has great, memorable tunes. One of the best Disney Princesses and best Disney villains)
3. The Little Mermaid (Fantastic music, fabulous and passionate characters, the best Disney Princess, and amazing animation and special effects with a superlative story).
4. Bambi (A movie that hit me with its drama, emotions, depth, themes and beauty. Enchanting music, wonderful characters, and breathtaking animation)
5. Aladdin (Hilarious humor, but also with a big heart, and cleverness. One of Disney’s greatest male protagonists, a princess who rebels, a seething villain. Wonderful music and great animation, it’s a real diamond in the rough)
6. The Lion King (Grand animation, an epic story with epic themes, a great male protagonist, a fabulous villain, great music, and great humor)
7. Pinocchio (I don’t know why people say it’s the best thing Walt Disney did, except that it has the best animation done under Walt. I find the story too episodic and the main character not learning much and being pulled around too much, but he is adorable, and the basic story and message is stellar, complete with fantastic characters, and like I said, astounding animation)
8. Dumbo (A classic story about one of the dearest characters to love, with stupendous drama and emotion)
9. Sleeping Beauty (A magical fairy tale story, a dreamy romance, with superlative, wondrous, immaculate animation, design, and all imagery, and Disney’s best villain)
10. Cinderella (An enchanting story, a magical romance, lovely music and even lovelier, spectacular animation, and the most sparkling special effects and design, with sterling characters, Disney’s third best Disney Princess, and one of Disney’s best villains, only those animals take away too much time)
11. The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Perhaps Disney’s best music, with a deep, complex story and deep, complex characters. With breathtaking, stellar animation, and perhaps Disney’s best male villain, only those darn gargoyles ruin it)
12. Hercules (Fantabulous music, personality-full characters, grand scope, and one of Disney’s best male protagonists, very cute and very pure of heart, and one of the best female protagonists)
13. Frozen (Gorgeous imagery, two incredible songs, wonderful characters)
14. Tangled (a magical story, with great music, great characters, and beautiful animation)
15. The Princess and the Frog (Beautiful animation, nice story, great characters, sucky music)
16. Alice in Wonderland (A wonderful world to explore, dazzling animation, life-filled characters, one of Disney’s best female protagonists and one of their best villains)
17. Peter Pan (A magical world to visit, great characters, some great music, really great animation)
18. The Black Cauldron (I think this movie is great. Cool animation, epic story, one of the best villains)
19. The Emperor’s New Groove (I love the humor in this one, very edgy, and has great animation)
20. 101 Dalmatians (Great villain…that’s all I can think of)
21. Fantasia (It’s just great animation set to great music. I think a single story makes a film better)
22. Big Hero 6 (Cool and heart-felt story and characters)
23. The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (Great stories, great animation, fabulous characters)
24. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (Really episodic, and of course that’s because it started out as shorts. But at least the characters are great and loveable. Nice feelings)
25. Lady and the Tramp (Ehhh…this is ok. I like the world Tramp wants to live in. The animation’s great. That’s about it)
26. Lilo & Stitch (Some evil alien becomes good? Ok…but then there’s space violence and then Stitch hypocritically says the family is good, like he’s been there long enough to know? Ugh. The animation was good though, and Lilo and her sister were good characters)
27. Bolt (Don’t remember how good it was, but I liked the animal characters, and it’s better than number 28.)
28. Wreck-It-Ralph (Ughhh…I almost hate this one. A video game villain sick of his job and set in video games and at the end he accepts his job while he gets to see his somehow glitch-making friend sometimes? I think it’s stupid. The designs in Sugar Rush were great. That’s it)
29. Fantasia 2000 (Good, but not as great as the first one)
Favorites list:
1. Cinderella
2. Sleeping Beauty
3. The Little Mermaid
4. Bambi
5. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
6. The Black Cauldron
7. Pinocchio
8. Beauty and the Beast

Still haven't gotten around to Make Mine Music, Fun & Fancy Free, Melody Time, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Brother Bear, Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, or Bolt. The way I broke my list down this time around was by going through each period and just ranking which films I liked best. So, Bambi over Snow White, Snow White over Dumbo, Dumbo over Pinocchio, Pinocchio over Fantasia... and on and on, adding in each new period. Cinderella over Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland over Fantasia, etc.
