This is what America and the world deserves when they keep rewarding mediocrity.

I am highly disappointed that Alice in Genericland made $1B. An actually decent movie should have been the first post-Avatar release. Now, we get this.

Disney's features are all the same. Spend a lot of money on special effects, hire the least experienced and worst screenwriters and release to critical failure but audience stupidity slurping on the Kool Aid.

I didn't even bother finishing Oz. It was dire. And that's an understatement.

Not going to see Maleficent. Not going to see Cinderella. Not going to see this. Not going to see the live action adaptation of the fucking Lion King.

Then again, maybe this isn't exactly new, the Mouse House did make the panned 101 Dalmatians and the Jungle Book in the 90s.

Someone should simply buy over their animation department because nothing else they release is worthy of the film or data they are on and I hate continually supporting a creatively bankrupt studio.

Oh jeez, my mother predicted that one, too. She said she'd rather have Anne Hathaway than Kristen Stewart. And for a moment I thought about it and could understand the reasoning since she comes from a successful romance-based franchise (Twilight), but then I was just like, "No, no, they would never..."

What a way to stamp on this project right out the gate. She's such an awful actress. I didn't even care that she f-ed up Snow White and the Huntsman, since I never liked the original tale outside of the Queen anyway. Just one huge UGH.

Kristen Stewart as Belle? bleugh.

^So So correct.

I can't stand her. She really isn't a convincing actress and if she wins the role, I won't be seeing it. I know everyone says she only has one expression, but it's true.
Settling Soul mates? That is grim. And I've played Monopoly alone.

I don't hate Kristen Stewart at all. She's been good in non-Twilight/Snow White things, like Runaways or Adventureland. I think that the problem is, however, if she's given a poor script or character to work with she just doesn't try at all.

Also, her roles in Adventureland and Runaways are basically the complete opposite of Belle. Kristen does indeed suck at acting believably happy. She'd be great at acting depressed when Beast first takes her in or when Gaston is being a jerk, but that's the only positive thing I could imagine she'd bring to this film. Plus, it's a musical. Ew. No. Stay away.

I disagree. I've seen her in her non-Twilight/SW films and she's always the same twitching, mumbling mess.

I really hope she turns down the role because she's above it or some crap, or someone higher up at Disney nixes the idea (although I don't think their past taste gives much hope).

And wonderful actors and an extremely experienced director. I can hardly wait to see it.

I doubt Kristen will be involved in this film at all.

I agree: I think she's a good actress when she's in a good film! And I liked 'Snow White and the Huntsman'. Sure, it was flawed: Kristen and Chris struggled with their accents, I disliked Charlize's take on the queen (all those screams and pauses between words drove me quite mad) and the script was sometimes problematic. But it was way better than 'Oz, the Great and Powerful' and 'Maleficent', in my opinion. I actually want to see the sequel, especially if they're keeping the mirror as the villain!

While I think that Kristen did okay and Chris did good in Snow White and the Huntsman, I thought it was a disasterous mess that fails badly when it comes to character development and story; not to mention that the bloated running time didn't help. The script you can tell had COUNTLESS re-writes (for example the entire sanctuary scene when you pay attention to it and how the movie was running the whole time feels not only pointless but REALLY out of place). Stewart is all kinds of wrong for Belle for many reasons which others have pointed out already.

Thank god for Maleficent. 8)

Not only that but a better screenplay, characters and pacing. Thanks for asking Duster, and count me in on the Cinderella hype train. :D

I'm holding gout that this report isn't true. This would be so idiotic to have her as Belle. I could see Anne Hathaway play Bell. I mean we know she sings very good and all and I feel would be a perfect fit for Belle. That's just my opinion.

If this ends up being true about Kristen Stewart getting the role, my enthusiasm will be pretty much toast.

I don't hate Hathaway, but I would never in a million years believe she is the most beautiful girl in town that everyone sings about and the hottest guy obsesses over. I actually think Kristen Stewart is much prettier, though I don't want her as Belle either. I think they should get a beautiful talented unknown to play Belle.

Meh... I might have been more interested in this movie if it wasn't going to be a musical. I don't really see the point in having two big-screen Disney versions that are both musicals (with the same songs), it's so redundant. That has pretty much already set the tone for the movie and confined it to following the same structure as the 1991 film, so I don't think we'll see anything truly new or groundbreaking. And I'm saying this as someone whose favorite film is BatB.

But whatever, I have the new French adaptation and the Guillermo del Toro verson to look forward to.

Oh, you meant Maleficent is better than Snow White and the Huntsman? Because yes it was, very very much so. And yay for Cinderella hype!

Snow White and the Huntsman's only saving grace is that it would probably have been still better than Disney's idiotic Hong Kong monks version.

Then again, if they did go ahead with that concept, maybe we would not have ever seen Alice, Oz and the rest of these awful movies.

Either way, none of these movies have worked and Disney has shown that really don't care much for the quality with the stringent quality control measures in place.

Let me get this straight: there's going to be a remake of Beauty and the Beast, now being made to its fullest due to the success of Maleficent; would possibly be a musical, probably have the feel of the Broadway (not too much); and there's a possibility that Kristen Stewart would play the role of Belle. ... I am not surprised on all of this. With Cinderella remake coming out, something like this would happen, and somehow, I am not freaked out by having Bella as Belle (great, a tongue twist.) She wasn't too bad in Snow White/Huntsman (though I've only seen segments of that film. ... yet again, that was a long while ago, so my judgement can be a bit weak right now.) and anything Twilight is all in the past (complainers... let it go [no pun purely intended]), and we should at least give her a shot if it becomes reality.
... actually, if that were to happen, we might as well have Jacob Black as the Beast. Be honest: that would make perfect sense.
(PS. Still have not seen nor read Twilight)
