PINOCCHIO as #1?! Really?!??!?! Oh brother

And Dumbo and Snow White as the only other Disney films in the top 10? LMAO. How pathetic.

With that said, I LOVE Robin Hood and am happy to see it on the list. Shove it! :minnie:

What's wrong with Pinocchio at #1? I genuinely think it is the pinnacle of Disney Animation. And considering the importance of Walt Disney in the history of animated features, I think it is fitting as the #1 film.

I think it's silly to always put some of the earliest Disney films as n°1 in lists. Just because it's the first doesn't always mean it's the best.

I mean it's always so predictable those lists that have Snow White as n°1.

I agree that just because it's the first doesn't mean it's the best. I think Snow White is a great film that, in some ways, holds up very well today, while in other ways, it doesn't. Despite its undeniable impact on animation and filmmaking as whole, I personally wouldn't put Snow White at #1. Still, I think it remains one of the best animated films of all time, and I couldn't fault anyone for putting it on their list.

As for Pinocchio, as I said, I do think it is the pinnacle of Disney animation. Storytelling, characterization, artistry, animation... it's really in a class of its own. Of course it's debatable. And with the way that filmmaking and story-telling has changed over time--with increasingly complex stories and fast, break-neck pacing--I can see how somebody would find the older films boring, and I see that as a perfectly valid opinion. Yet, in terms of artistry and animation, I don't think it's too debatable that films like Snow White, Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Bambi are basically unparalleled. It's definitely not silly to see those films near the top of any list.

most critics, even those that dont care much for Disney, looove Pinocchio b/c its dark and weird. Interesting(though not surprising) that its also one of the least popular of the Walt era films.

Really? Not popular? Here I thought almost all of Walt's films were popular (except obvs the package films and the Sword in the Stone). The Three Caballeros gets a few mentions here and there for its use of South American culture but nothing else.

That thing about Pinocchio is quite funny. I thought it'd be more recognizable, considering big names like Spielberg love that film.

not really, I remember its rerelease back in 1993 did not do that well compared to rereleases of Dalmatians & Snow White during the 1990s. Its true that you do see merchandise of the character/film, especially at parks & Disney Stores, more than for SITS, dark age & post Renaissance films.

Pinocchio didn't make the original Platinum line, only making it in during the expansion from the first 10. I think that's a test of popularity among Disney movies, although I'd reckon that Dumbo and Alice in Wonderland are more popular than Lady and the Tramp.

But yeah, Pinocchio has always been the critic's choice for Best Disney Movie. They usually flip-flop between that and Snow White for the token Disney representation in a Best Films list, and I know that it was among Gene Siskel's favorite movies.

I love Pinocchio. I'm just glad one of Walt's got the coveted spot.
That being said, I have no idea what film I would put as no1 on my own personal list.

Am I one of the few that isn't fond of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I'm not sure if it's the film I don't get or if I just dislike Alice.
Settling Soul mates? That is grim. And I've played Monopoly alone.

Why would they do that anonymously? No one else did. Why are they getting special treatment? Anyway, I did some research and here's what I came up with. Here you can find the list of sources I used for the matching.

#1 Dan Scanlon
#2. Kori Rae
#3. Ed Catmull
#4. Pete Docter
#5. Lee Unkrich
#6. Chris Buck
#7. Ron Clements
#8. John Musker
#9. Byron Howard
#10. Jennifer Lee

All I'm going to say is that if the staff at Disney feel like they should be proud of doing CG movies, then they are absolutely hopeless and are forgetting Disney's place as an animation studio (or don't even care). As far as I'm still concerned, none of the CG Disney movies deserve to be on that list, let alone be part of the Disney canon.

And why should any of them want to like DreamWorks movies? As a studio, DreamWorks practically exists as an enemy to 2D animation, because they clearly care about CGI and nothing else, and the people at Disney don't even realize that it was their influence that made them give up 2D animation themselves. Something that never should have happened. They're fooling themselves if they think that DreamWorks isn't their enemy. In fact, part of the reason the studio was founded was to "rival Disney".

Also, South Park is on this list as number 26? THAT cheap excuse for a cartoon? Please.

Funny thing is, I've already started posting lists on DeviantART for what I think are my favorite Disney and Non-Disney animated films, as you can see here: http://tooneguy.deviantart.com/art/My-T ... -450075134

I can't even take their lists seriously, though to be fair I haven't really seen some of the ones on the list that aren't CGI (but I already know why I don't like the CG ones).

^^Ok, with all respect in the world: Let It Go about Disney doing CGI. And Dreamworks can do good movies too.

I should be ignoring this statement, but I really had to say this.

If that was an intentional pun of Frozen's "Let It Go", I'm not laughing.

^ I agree. The animation is a weak point, but that's the style of the series.

Well that show has a lot to do with why I believe the animation quality of cartoons on television really started going downhill after the 90's. That "style" of animation in-and-of-itself is unappealing to begin with, but then it carried over to so many other cartoon shows on kids networks such as Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, Fairly Oddparents, Johnny Test, and so on. If you really want to know why I don't watch today's cable television anymore, this is why.

Also, I've always seen South Park as one of those adult cartoons with nonstop crude humor and cussing in an attempt to be edgy and "mature", and I'm personally not a fan of those kind of cartoons either. I don't even like the Adult Swim block that's on Cartoon Network now for this reason when I know that time could still be used to show classic cartoons.

Dexter's Lab and even Powerpuff Girls existed before South Park came on the air (the latter as a student film by Craig McCracken). Dexter's Lab, in particular, looks more like UPA than South Park, while Powerpuff Girls is more inspired by Astro Boy and other '60s anime.

South Park has that construction paper style, because they're based on student films made by Trey Parker and Matt Stone with stop-motion cut-out animation. And South Park is a lot sharper than you give it credit for. The messages of the movie are still relevant to this day. Yes, there's crude humour, but it's there for satirical purposes than anything else.

You should give Gravity Falls a look. The animation is very fluid and almost theatrical. Part of the reason that the first season took over a year to air and why the second season is taking so long is because Alex Hirsch really wants the show to look fantastic and the best quality possible.

Yeah, Snow White is godawful bore in actuality and that's a fact. Innovative and a milestone, sure, but it's not the 1930s anymore so I don't know why these so-called taste makers pretend they enjoy watching it all the time with a modern perspective. Putting it at #1 all the time suggests the art form hasn't grown at all, which obviously isn't the case. It's like saying a cave drawing is the best painting of all time.

Haven't seen it since its theatrical release, so I don't know that I'd go that far--but it was quite good, as I recall, and certainly had moments of brilliance. A lot of these films have more in common with each other than differences that distinguish them, but the differences are what make this film stand out: the animation style, the social commentary, the biting satire and parody, and the songs--who'd have thought Parker & Stone could create a bona fide movie musical?

Meh. That's like saying the Mona Lisa or the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel or Starry, Starry night are overrated because they're old.

They came much later than cave drawings, and it's called The Starry Night, not Starry Starry Night like the lyrics from Vincent

It wasn't their first movie musical, and certainly not their last, so anyone who was informed rotfl
