Usually when I go to the theater I go during the day so a ticket's around $5-$6. And then most of the time I'll get popcorn and a drink which adds another $7-$8. Even though that's almost as much as I'd spend on a DVD, the whole experience (and the fact that you get to see the film sooner) makes it worthwhile.

Geez, eleven dollars to see a movie, that's exactly why I don't go to theaters. (Except, of course, to see Star Wars and Harry Potter and the occasional freebie when I can score tickets.)

Agreed .... going to the theatres these days is such a big rip-off. And then ... I am a huge popcorn freak, so I cannot simply ignore the smell of popcorn popping at the consesions stand. I would muc prefer to wait until the DVD comes out and purchase it. That way I could both enjoy the DVD over and over again to analyze it and of course pop a bag of microwave popcorn while viewing it. Much more frugal.

here in mexico is only 48 pesos- 5 dollars aprox! popcorn and soda included

Hmmm. I may do the unthinkable and put Disc 2 in the Disc 1 slot, and vice-versa. That way Julie Andrews and the widescreen disc get the top slot!

Umm guys, the experience of seeing a movie in the theater is still the ideal way to watch it. DVD is awesome, but I love a good big screen show. A single movie ticket is an average of $6 - use my logic and save yourself money. I love popcorn too, but if you have popcorn it makes you thirsty, and then you need a drink, and then you need to go to the bathroom to pee, and then you miss the movie.

Personally, I don't go to the movies to pee. I go to watch a movie. So, I almost *never* have popcorn, drink, or any of that at the theater. In fact, I've had popcorn in the theater so few times that I can remember each time specifically. But anyway, point is, even if you're a popcorn fan you can survive a theater trip without them. Plus, lack of popcorn allows you to focus more on the movie.
