http://www.vulture.com/2014/04/fox-will ... l?mid=imdbFox will air a live production of the musical Grease at some point in 2015, the network announced today. Grease Live will feature a "young ensemble cast," none of whom have been named yet, nor has anyone signed on to hopelessly devote themselves to the production side of things.

I hope they do the original script from 1972 and not a movie/play hybrid. Although I'm sure most people would be expecting to hear the movie songs.

Somehow I'm guessing this was inspired by last year's ratings-hit The Sound of Music. I just hope before this trend ends, one of these channels does an adaptation of R&H's Cinderella!

Hopefully a version that would use Douglas Carter Beane's book in the 2013 Broadway version. That'll be great.Disney's Divinity wrote:Somehow I'm guessing this was inspired by last year's ratings-hit The Sound of Music. I prefer the original (1957) book by Oscar Hammerstein II.

Re: "Grease Live" coming to Fox
I'm sorry if I disagree with you on this but as BRILLIANT as a writer Hammerstein was, his books for Allegro, Me and Juliet and for Cinderella to me, is considered to be his most thinnist works, not bad by any means, but uninteresting. Beane did a really good job of attempting to be equal with Hammerstein's other books he did.carolinakid wrote:I prefer the original (1957) book by Oscar Hammerstein II.

If they do Cinderella, I'm sure it'll be the 2013 version. After all, the 1957 version has already been done (in 1957, of course), so why repeat it again? Anyway, the next NBC live production after Peter Pan is The Music Man.

Wow, did this go down the drain instantly. Hough and Hudgens are both awful, so I'll be skipping again next year. It's too bad--Grease was a good choice.

What horrific casting. I'll still be watching for the trainwreck factor, but there goes expecting anything decent.
STOP trying to make Julianne Hough happen.

I heard that this won't take place in the 70's and will instead take place in modern times

Damn, you must be really young. Grease (both the play and the film) is set in 1959. The play came out in 1972 and the film in 1978 and while it does have some '70s influences (especially the film's music) it still obviously takes place in the 1950s.

Re: "Grease Live" coming to Fox
Sorry about that. I'm actually 28 so I guess I am considered young. I've only watched the movie once and found it overrated to be honest. I watched It back in the fall of 2014 It was still a good movie, but in my opinion overrated. I was informed right after posting that it was set in the late 50's,.carolinakid wrote:Damn, you must be really young. Grease (both the play and the film) is set in 1959. Re: "Grease Live" coming to Fox
Excited to see Vanessa Ann Hudgens as Rizzo. I have a completely unfounded hunch that she'll be fantastic. Don't know any of Julianne Hough's work, but I'm very excited to see who they cast as Danny. Who could they cast?
