Warner officially announced the Gone With The Wind Collector's Edition that we've all been talking so much about today. This thing is gonna be AWESOME!

Warner has officially announced a four disc collector's edition of Gone With the Wind which stars Clark Gable. This classic film has been stunningly restored on DVD with “Ultra-Resolution” technology, which allows today’s viewers to see parts of the images which were never visible before, and contains much sharper detail than in conventional Technicolor release prints. The set will be available to own from the 9th November this year, priced at around $39.92. Each Gone with the Wind Four Disc Collector’s Edition DVD will include a stunning full-color reproduction of the original 22-page souvenir booklet that was sold during premiere road-show engagements from 1939 through 1941. We should also point out that the film will be spread across discs one and two, with the extra material taking up the remaining two discs. I'm afraid the artwork has yet to be released, but we've attached the full disc specs for you below.

Holy crap, that's about 5 hours' worth of documentaries! I guess you can't really expect anything less since it's freaking Gone with the Wind. I've only seen portions of the film, but I'll most likely be picking this up because even if I end up not liking it (which I doubt), it'll be good to own for the sake of owning since it's so revered.

Kelvin, odds are extremely minimal that you won't like it.

I think the reprint of the original booklet distributed at Road Shows is such a great idea! That's better than the original artwork in the Treasures tins by a long shot, imo!

At nearly 4 hours, the film being spread across 2 discs isn't surprising. I'm guessing the barebones release was a double-sided disc?

If this sells really well (and I have no doubt that it will), then maybe Warner will decide to treat their other 1939 classic, The Wizard of Oz, with 4 disc treatment as well! It's got a great 1-Disc set, and it had some sort of collector's set (but with the same DVD, just extra stuff), but that's still a far cry from a 4-Disc set like this. How did WB wind up with MGM's WoO anyways?

I think Warner have all of MGM's pre-1986 titles, except the onces picked up by Turner (a very small number), but Turner is virtually Warners anyhow.

This doesn't include the United Artists films, distributed by MGM, such as James Bond, West Side Story, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang etc which are still owned by MGM.

Its not unusual for films to change hands. A lot of Universal's vintage titles, such as their Marx Bros films, Island of Lost Souls and a number of Hitchcock films were originally Paramount (and still feature the Paramount logo, just as Warners' MGM titles still feature the MGM opening logo).

That is GREAT cover art!! That case doesn't look quite big enough for 4 discs, does it? Definitely looks like a digipack, though, which was to be expected.

Ooh, I really hope so. The DVD's been out since 1999 so I think it's time for a re-release. I think the current DVD is excellent as it is, but I'd like to see the film get a new transfer (looks great, but I know Lowry Digital can make it look even better and they've even said that Oz is the film they most want to restore), a commentary track (or two?), the full-length versions of all of those Oz films they showed excerpts of, and perhaps a pop up fact track. I think 4-discs might be overkill, so I think a 2 (possibly 3 if they can dig up more documentaries)-disc would be sufficient.

I personally thinking this is one of the most overrated films ever made, and way too long. I'd certainly rent before buying.

As for the cover art - orange with a silouehette. Woopee!

However, if you are a fan, this is a pretty decent set.

I saw it at the theater in 1997 and enjoyed every minute of it. There were also several people there that had seen it in the theater in 1939.

They should've kept the original poster as the coverart. (They same they used for the barebones disc). Although it's understandable they want the version to stand out.
