Did the UK trailer say it is for a limited time again?
It did say limited time (I think) but didn't say anything at all about it being a special edition. Sad & annoying really. When is the US release? As if they have that same cover, but its Diamond labelled, think I may have to get it.
I can't even say I'm buying this one for the upgrade in picture and sound which makes it harder.
I'm not too fussed about the Diamond label. It's all become a bit of a long running joke. There is no consistency what so ever. The platinum editions were far superior. It's really sad Disney let it slip.
I also love that sketch. It would be a lovely lithograph to be included in a collector's set. I can only dream.
Settling Soul mates? That is grim. And I've played Monopoly alone.
I LOVE these UK covers!!! My favorite though is the DVD cover. except, once again, how the castle is off-center and Maleficent and the dragon are not close enough to either side to balance it out!

I like the DVD cover. But as Disney Duster said, the castle and Maleficent don't balance each other.
The design is good, needs a bit of position tweaking.
Atlantica wrote:To me, it looks as if it should have the titles down the left hand side as usual, as everything is shifted over to the right slightly?
It's possible it was designed before Disney UK dropped the diamond banner. There is a nice space there on the left for a vertical title.

Ah, I didn't think of that, makes sense. A shame, but makes sense!
(Also, very off topic, I asked you a question in the theme park thread about the Phantom Manor score, just thought I'd check if you'd seen it, I know its not the most popular section!)
I feel like this was less about Blu-ray and more about getting in out for digital distribution. This is why recent releases have so little supplements, so they can fit in the extras section of the iTunes download version, which Disney is obviously pushing (hey, they don't have to worry about manufacturing the discs, distributing them and retailers taking a large percentage. I can't blame them for wanting to take less of a risk and earn more per sale).
Just to clarify, this is the UK press release. Peter Pan was released non-Diamond in the UK before the US Diamond Edition came out, and it didn't have the new features that were eventually produced for the US Diamond. Also, Pinocchio was rereleased a while back in the UK and was simply the first disc of the Platinum repackaged.
Needless to say, I was always going to keep my Platinum Blu-Ray.

I think it's safe to say this will also be on the US version. This is so disappointing, but not surprising at all. I'm in love with the cover art though.
I was always going to keep the platinum but I'm now rethinking my previous statement of definitely buying this again.
If it is just the first Disc of the platinum repackaged, I see no point. I'll get a nice print out of the new cover art.
I'll see if the US edition has some new bonus features but I'm not hopeful.
I finally ordered the Platinum Pinocchio BD as Disney did the same thing to that as they are doing to Sleeping Beauty.
They just forgot to remove all the special features from the back of the box.

Atlantica wrote:But in the US its a Diamond though isn't it? Only Europe where it's been dropped?
Fingers crossed the Diamond status still equates to a few bonus features, or even just the exact same Platinum repackaged.
Well, maybe the US version will get some Maleficent-related bonus features? Maybe a new retrospective documentary with Maleficent's stars, commenting on Sleeping Beauty's legacy? I know it's a long shot, but who knows?
I didn't have my phone with me as I was driving past at the time, but a billboard was up in my town for Maleficent, and in the bottom right, it had a 'coming soon' for Sleeping Beauty on blu! Haven't seen that before ?!
