TsWade2, did you know that Bob Iger and John Lassener saved Walt Disney Animation Studios from CLOSING FOR GOOD? Yeah, they made crappy mistakes like no 2D and Cars 3, but these 2 guys saved the Disney legacy and the Disney heart and soul from extincting and making CGI animated movies for good. So, we all owe them one.TsWade2 wrote:If Bob Iger should of make a better statement about hand drawn animation and if The Princess & the Frog should of been a box office hit, none of this controversy ever happened. If I hear another word about hand drawn is dead again, will have to deal with me.

Not to mention that 2D movies were getting overrated around that time.

That's an awesome article, but does John Lasseter and Bob Iger still believe in hand drawn animation?disneyprincess11 wrote:TsWade2, did you know that Bob Iger and John Lassener saved Walt Disney Animation Studios from CLOSING FOR GOOD? Lasseter knows and appreciates 2D animation as much as anyone. Iger has announced he'll be stepping down in 2016.TsWade2 wrote:That's an awesome article, but does John Lasseter and Bob Iger still believe in hand drawn animation?
I think we're more likely to see a Meander-based feature before the studio produces another strictly 2D film. Personally, I don't have a problem with that. Change is a constant. One could easily make an argument that "true" 2D animation began to die when computers became a part of the process. If traditional ways were the best ways, TPATF would look a lot more like the Oswald shorts.

Re: Hand-Drawn Animation Dead at Disney?
thats not even a guarante(?? I cant spell this wordI think Peanuts might have a bigger impact on the animation industry than we might expect. That movie is certain to be a massive hit and I think its success would show that audiences are open to seeing an animated movie that doesn't have the three-dimensional look of other computer-animated features.
I too would love to see the Paperman style in a full length film. I really think now is the perfect time for Disney to try one, now that they are hot of the success of Frozen & the public has faith in them again. Even better is having the same team who worked on Frozen use the Paperman style in their next film.

I know it's not traditional animation but I think with every new CG release they are getting closer and closer to a more painterly traditional aesthetic. Look at toy story and compare to tangled/frozen. Especially the human characters. Hoping They're pulling a "Trojan horse" and gredually fooling people with CG that will within say 10 years or so will look a lot like the animation/CG hybrids of the 90s/00s like Tarzan/fantasia2000/treasure planet etc

Re: Hand-Drawn Animation Dead at Disney?
Im pretty sure that the 90s look can already be acheived if they want to. Visually Paperman proved the flat cel shading style can be easily mimiced with cgi. The problem was making those 3d cgi models move like 2d, but they are getting there too. Just look at how Anna moves and walks during FTIF. I think after a few more films it will get harder to distinguish from cgi & hand drawn movements.
An even bigger obstacle is whether the animators will be allowed by upper management to make a film that looks like Tarzan or Lion King. Remember how reluctant Iger was about Paperman even if it was cgi. It probably still looked like a 2d film to him.

I mean, really, disneyspirit. It's bad enough some of us are worried sick about the medium's future. We don't need you saying crap like that.

Re: Hand-Drawn Animation Dead at Disney?
I don't think it will really be dead forever at Disney. It's their legacy, and their DACs are still beloved by, well, the world. As long as kids are still raised on DACs like they are now, I think Disney'll probably try to release a hand-drawn film every so often to test the waters. I think if Disney can keep up the current momentum, they might try another one. Think of all the animation styles Disney played with following the success of the Renaissance (Atlantis, The Emperor's New Groove, deep canvas in Treasure Planet, heavier CG integration). Disney gets more creative when they have more profit-based confidence.

Re: Hand-Drawn Animation Dead at Disney?
Actually I forgot in the original Perrault tale her room was in a tower, in a garret, so the Disney film was also faithful to that, too. She just would sit by the warm ashes after her work was done.DisneyJedi wrote:Well, to some degree, the Disney version is based most on the Charles Perrault version. In the original story, Cinderella sleeps in a col and barren room next to the fireplace. Each morning, shed wake up covered in cinders, hence her name, given to her by her stepsisters. But in the Disney movie, her room is in the tower of the house.

DisneyJedi and TsWade2 are like the kids who take the "I've got your nose" joke too seriously and scream bloody murder until the other person "gives it back". Grow a thicker skin.

Well, how is I to know that it was meant to be a joke? Is that suppose to be a April Fool joke?Kyle wrote:DisneyJedi and TsWade2 are like the kids who take the "I've got your nose" joke too seriously and scream bloody murder until the other person "gives it back". Grow a thicker skin.

This month might be laid off month. I hope they're not going to laid off more hand drawn animators. Of course, the only Disney people that I think should of been laid off in the first place, is the Disney executives. Because they never give hand drawn animation a chance and they never will. Just saying.

And you are correct about the executives getting laid off. After all, they are most likely to blame for the ridiculous titles and marketing "Rapunzel" and "The Snow Queen" have received. Hopefully, they'll learn it was the word of mouth and "Let It Go" made Frozen the most successful WDAS movie ever, not the ridiculous title and the teaser that made the reputation terribleTsWade2 wrote:This month might be laid off month. Thank you. But I'm cool with the title changes. It might work for hand drawn animated movie too.You never know. But nonetheless, thank you for agreeing with me.disneyprincess11 wrote:And you are correct about the executives getting laid off. If you love hand-drawn animation you can help fund a hand-drawn animated feature adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera on Kickstarter.

Oh, thank you for showing me that, Sotiris. And I almost thought you came to ruin my hope.Sotiris wrote:If you love hand-drawn animation you can help fund a hand-drawn animated feature adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera on Kickstarter.
