And yes it's a flop at the box office. People are exaggerating how negative the reviews are (77% at RT isn't that bad). Goodbye to the Muppets.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDPQpaxtTuY NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! It's not fair! That box office must be rigged! Looks like it's the end of the Muppets.

Actually most Muppets movies haven't done that well when looking at them

Expectations were higher for MMW but it may not be the end of the world

Oh, I knew that. But what is Disney going to do with the Muppets if Muppets Most Wanted was not quite of a success?

I wouldn't say it's a flop yet, it's the second most watched movie from this weekend and Easter is coming soon.

It's the second "Muppet movie" to open with such big numbers, only behind The Muppets.

Opening Weekend:

The Muppets $29,239,026
Muppets Most Wanted $16,514,000
Muppet Treasure Island $7,906,689
The Muppet Christmas Carol $5,010,109
Muppets from Space $4,826,049
The Muppets Take Manhattan $4,416,022
The Great Muppet Caper $2,968,990
The Muppet Movie n/a

They'll probably reevaluate what to do with them and try something smaller scale. I don't think they're going to sell them off and/or destroy them for good. They know there's an audience for the Muppets. This was just bad timing and it wasn't that great a movie, apparently. Most likely it'll make its money back slowly over the Easter break and/or cideo sales. They won't kill off the Muppets just because of one failure. Did "Muppets from Space" mark the end of the Muppets? No. And this won't either.

Basically repeating what everybody has said, but Muppet Christmas Carol didn't exactly light up the box-office, either, and Disney nonetheless released Muppet Treasure Island four years later. Muppet movies don't cost a whole lot to make (helps that puppets are a lot cheaper than computer-generated effects  ), so it shouldn't be that hard for Muppets Most Wanted to make its money back, especially when international grosses are taken into account.

That's probably a little TOO optimistic on my part, but if Disney had success with the Muppets in spite of having low grossing Muppets, then why would they branch them off?

No matter what, I don't see this being the end for the Muppets, even for the time being. On the off chance that Disney doesn't decide to make another movie, I can absolutely see them making another TV special or two ala the Lady Gaga one from Thanksgiving, and the characters will likely have an increasingly awesome presence online. The studio seems very much interested in keeping the characters alive, so I severely doubt that they'd just drop the Muppets all at once even with a lesser-performing film.

Don't count anything out yet. But yeah, if you haven't seen the movie in theaters, try to. Wouldn't hurt, y'no.

This. I probably won't see this theatrically (I made an exception for Muppets and Muppet Treasure Island, but having said that I'm fine with however the Muppets goes.

I agree. I think it a World of major blockbusters making $50 million or more opening weekend, Muppets films kind of go against the grain. This isn't "John Carter" or "The Lone Ranger," it did not cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make. I think it was made for something like $50 million? It will make that money back and then some. The fact is, the Muppet IP isn't going to make Disney the kind of money back that Marvel, LucasFilm or Pixar will. But that is ok. I bet we'll see more Muppet films made this decade.

I moved this past week, so I just saw this movie, and it was awesome! I love the Muppets and knew I'd love it, but it exceeded my expectations. It was hilarious. Isn't it school vacation week for most of the US at least this week? So maybe by week's end, the numbers will be higher. And really, it's been #2 at the box office, and that isn't shabby at all!!

Muppets Most Wanted had a fairly small drop this weekend, so word-of-mouth is taking its effect. It will probably reach about $60 million domestically and about the same overseas, enough to make it profitable. Add in Blu-Ray/DVD sales and merchandising and Disney will definitely make a tidy amount of money off of it. If the meagre gross of Muppet Christmas Carol didn't stop Disney from releasing Muppet Treasure Island four years later and airing Muppets Tonight, then the money generated from Most Wanted won't stop them from using the Muppets, whether on television or movies.

Pepole always seems to forget that it doesn't make a movie a great one based on how much money it does make. I personally thought it was a better film than the first last one since it focused more on the main man himself Kermit.

I LOVED IT. The trailers though I wasn't impressed with at all but after seeing the movie I'm laughing out of my seat. I love the line in the beginning of Muppet's Again about waiting for Tom Hanks to do Toy Story 4 rotfl rotfl

*head explodes*

I was starting to think this would never happen! I absolutely adore the score from the 2011 movie! I wish we had more information. I hope they don't try to cram all the music from both movies on a single disc. This is our only shot at getting the score on CD; I would hate for tracks to get cut.

And only two weeks away, to boot! :D
