Her staff is in her hand during her entire oration of the curse. It's just sort of obscured by the green flames, but she's definitely holding it in her left hand. There's also a shot of her creating the staff in the Disney Channel promo.Disney Duster wrote:I wish she was using her staff though instead of just her hands. Will she even use her staff? Not to mention Jolie's great delivery on her curse in the new trailer, but it does make me wonder who was the one who changed the leaked script's "She will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die!" to the new one's "She will fall into a sleep-like death".lord-of-sith wrote:Her staff is in her hand during her entire oration of the curse. An odd rule that contradicts all storytelling teachings. I like the hud though.FigmentJedi wrote:There's also the whole dumb Hollywood Superhero Movie rule of "You need to see a character's face constantly if they're played by a name actor" in effect. Maleficent not turning into a dragon and using Diablo as a proxy is basically the same thing as how, say, you always see people losing their masks in the Raimi Spider-Man movies, Wolverine never wearing his mask from the comics, or Robert Downey Jr having his face lit up by that cool in-helmet HUD thing in the Iron Man movies.

Because of some things me and other people have already explainedDisney Duster wrote:
Why doesn’t it make sense? She was a fairy in the original film and turned into a more powerful creature to thwart Phillip and the fairies. In this film she can become a more powerful creature to thwart those trying to stop her and her plans, like Stephen, maybe the fairies, and maybe Phillip.
- she lost her wings, it's obviously a great deal to her but if she could turn into a dragon to fly, why wouldn't she be able to get her wings back by herself, magically?
- she doesn't fly to the castle, she is on a horse (as seen in the trailer) and she doesn't teleport in and out of the birth of Aurora, she walks (as seen in the trailer, after she says the curse she walks out).
I think it would be weird if she was so furious because she lost her wings, that it makes her curse a baby, and then she would be like: 'yeah I can still fly though, I can turn into a powerfull dragon.' That would make less sense to me.

Jolie said herself in an interview that the changed wording is integral to the new/alternate take on the Sleeping Beauty story.Musical Master wrote:...it does make me wonder who was the one who changed the leaked script's "She will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die!" to the new one's "She will fall into a sleep-like death".

Thanks lord-of-sith about the staff, and thank you and WillytheDino about the dragon. You guys have good ideas and reasons. However, I have ideas where Maleficent could stay a born wingless fairy and would be able to transport anywhere just like the movie. Either Diablo gets to her too late, she would know Aurora is gone but not know where she is. Even using her magic to see in Stephen's castle, it would be too big to find where Aurora is right away, similar to how the three good fairies couldn't find Aurora in time before the curse got her because the castle was so big.
And if she could make Diaval a dragon...she could have just rode him to the castle, too.

The trailer with her wings make me a lot less excited for this. Of course it looks like any other generic CGI "family action movie" from the last 5-10 years, and I just think her backstory about the wings sounds RIDICULOUS and awful. I'll see it for the nostalgia of the Maleficent character and to see Angelina's performance, but I'm not expecting much.
I just really do hate the trend of villain back stories. Enough already

Those pictures are pretty hysterical, not gonna lie. Even more so, the lone comment on the page is golden.

WAY TO OVER-ANALYZE, MATEThis is creepy beyond words - let's glorify evil and let our kids dress as demonic creatures-not! But I'm not surprised, McCartney's father is a freemason and defended Miley Cyrus's debauched "performance" gyrating against teddy bears etc. So this is just another step in the their agenda. For starters, children shouldn't be watching Maleficent, I even found the trailer very dark. I loved "Sleeping Beauty" but the emphasis of the original was good conquering evil, that evil was not sexy or victorious! In the bible, Satan is spoken of as "The Dragon", which was how Maleficent's alter ego was portrayed. Satan's agenda is kill, steal and destroy. Which is what Maleficent's plan was in Sleeping Beauty. If I ever have children, they are living in the light and will belong to Jesus.

That's one of the many reasons why I won't be seeing the movie, and am so against it... I don't want the nostalgia ruined.Lady Cluck wrote:The trailer with her wings make me a lot less excited for this. ... Not gonna lie, am I the only one who finds those... Things... A bit... Ridiculous?

And that comment... Yeah, I've got nothin' to say about that.

P.S: Been seeing a lot of gifs in the Maleficent tags on Tumblr.
Of course! All I ever see there nowadays is Angelina Jolie...
Has anyone commented on this yet?

A quote from Linda Woolverton in a recent article about the movie:
"The fairies who watch over Aurora (Elle Fanning), have been updated, too. In the original 1959 film "those fairies were typical sweet, good fairies with little wands," says Woolverton. "These three are complete idiots".
Shockingly, I don't disagree with her choice to make them idiots, the three fairies in the original WERE idiots especially Flora and Merryweather for fighting over the color of a dang dress and blowing their cover for Diablo to find the cottage.
So for Woolverton making them idiotic in this new one isn't all that suprising.

We don't know yet that they are jerks, I do know from the leaked script that they are neglectful on baby Aurora but they didn't know how to properly take care of a child in the right way and that they make fun of Maleficent plus when they throw Phillip out because the kiss didn't work. But it could be in theory that the new script revisions by Dini and Woolverton has changed that.Kraken Guard wrote:Yeah, but they weren't complete jerks...Musical Master wrote:A quote from Linda Woolverton in a recent article about the movie:

^That is truly the most adorable thing I have seen from baby Aurora so far.
I don't remember this, but was that moment in the leaked script?

Wouldn't it be great if Dini's revisions turned out to be an ending where it's revealed that the whole film has just been Maleficent lying through her teeth and she was just always evil?
