Oh, yeah I look forward to the possibility of hitting that 400 million domestic and 1 billion worldwide mark.

The consensus on sites more familiar with box office patterns is that Frozen will hit $400M domestically sometime mid-March, and has a decent chance of closing with a total around or over $410M (passing IM3 dom). It may be able to hit $1B worldwide before the end of February, but certainly will by the end of that first weekend (March 2), and long before it even opens in Japan. Depending on how well it does in Japan, it may have a shot at $1.1B worldwide, especially if South Korea (where it's performing astoundingly well) and Japan get the Sing Along version once sales start to dip (as other countries appear to be getting). But it's a lock to surpass TS3 worldwide.

We were originally thinking it'd be in the $390M-$395M range domestically by the time Peabody and Sherman came out, meaning an Oscar boost might give it enough momentum to actually have a shot at $425M, passing CF dom and thus claiming the #1 title for 2013, but this weekend performed below expectations (for once) and that target doesn't seem realistic at this point. Should still be over $385M when Peabody comes out, perhaps very close to $390M.

I actually think Disney should have postponed the home video release. Obviously, they had no way of knowing it would still be playing on 1000 screens now after setting the date, but I think once the Blu-Ray comes out, that will cut into ticket sales. Disney would have made more money if they kept it playing and when it dipped under 500 screens, then they would release the disc.

I hope it does overtake TS3, and would bet that it will.

I think it'll pass the billion mark within 2 weeks. It's been grossing a constant 40 mil world wide each week with little sign of fatigue.

Frozen dipped just 3 percent in its second week of release in China. It's been number one movie in South Korea for 4 weeks, pulling in huge numbers. Repeat viewings and positive word of mouth is happening everywhere.

I am rather curious as to why Japan's Disney releases are always so late though. Is it because of all the festivity in march?

The manufacturing, distribution, and marketing processes takes months of planning in advance. All that expenditure is built into their second fiscal quarter (Jan-Mar), as are the earnings expected from sales. To significantly delay a major product like that may be difficult to orchestrate, even for a company as large as Disney Home Entertainment. And even then, it would still require months of advance notice and coordination. "Current" ads need to be printed for box inserts. The discs need to be authored with trailers for still-upcoming projects. Ratings and certification not only for disc release but also digital release need to be obtained. They can't simply watch ticket sales and decide on a whim, "Wait.... wait... Okay, now we can release the Blu-ray."

I hope it doesn't. TS3 was an incredible movie with some of the best storytelling in animated films. And it deserves to be on top for now, until another TS3 comes along. Frozen was great, but TS3 was better.

It most likely will overtake Toy Story 3. I would say it's almost locked.

If it passes TS3, it'll have passed the entire Toy Story trilogy, which is pretty amazing. If it passes TS3, it'll almost definitely pass Aladdin.

First deleted Frozen scene (for real), with Kristoff and Anna:

http://family-room.ew.com/2014/02/18/fr ... ive-scene/

This is terrific. I actually like both of these characters in this version, whereas in the final form in the movie we got, Kristoff is dull and Anna is abrasive & annoying.

This Kristoff seems like a much more colorful, vital character, and Anna is more believable and vulnerable and human, instead of seeming like every scene she's in should practically come with a flashing "I'm an EMPOWERED character! Can't you see what a STRONG and MODERN character I am?" placard above it, as it does in the movie.

I might have enjoyed more than just Elsa in the movie, if Kristoff and Anna had been more like this.

I prefer the final version of it though and I never found Kristoff dull or Anna annoying, but thanks for sharing that. :)

Was that Kristoff? Reminded me of Flynn Rider. I see why this was changed.

Almost reminds me of Johnny Bravo. Also cannot get over the fact that Kristoff's last name was Bjorgman, probably to foil Hans lack of a surname.

Or Han Solo...

These bonus features (as few as they may be) are really going to be salt on the wound for those of us holding out for a domestic 3D Blu-ray...

I don't like it at all. I'm glad they changed it. To me, it makes Anna dull and Kristoff abrasive and annoying, but Kristoff in this form is way more abrasive and annoying than Anna in the actual movie. I didn't find Anna too annoying in the movie, just rather generic. I liked Kristoff the way he was in the movie too, mild and shlubby instead of the smarmy jerks that were Flynn and Naveen in the beginning of their movies. The 'jerk to loving fellow' ark was getting old.

For the record, that deleted scene is totally obnoxious. I'm glad they cut that.
