Re: Maleficent (2014): Official Discussion
It looks okay-ish. I liked Diablo's transformation. It seems like at certain scenes they use a real crow.
But the fairies look too strange, I hate Philip's hair...And while Maleficent's good, I don't like the use of leather in her costume...It looks strange.

Re: Maleficent (2014): Official Discussion
1) I guess that it's a costume difference. Much like Alice.DisneyJedi wrote:One thing I don't understand about the movie (so far from previews) are three things:
1) Maleficent didn't show any (almost) cleavage in Sleeping Beauty.
2) In Sleeping Beauty, wasn't Maleficent throwing a bitch fit because she (read that as "her minions") couldn't find Aurora?
3) I still think her skin should be pale green/shallow lime.
I know that they're not supposed to literally be 100% accurate to the original (because that would be boring), but come on.
2) This whole movie is a different version of Sleeping Beauty, so story changes by Linda and others are bound to happen.
3) I know this is a matter of opinion, but as long as Maleficent has her staff and horns, I'm perfectly fine with her skin being different.
BTW: Maleficent's line in the new trailer: "Aurora, there is an evil in this world. And I cannot keep you from it" was never in the leaked script.

Re: Maleficent (2014): Official Discussion
I honestly believe Michelle Pfeiffer would have played a much better Maleficent IMHO.
I still love Angelina Jolie though and I hope I enjoy the film when it comes out.

Also the leaked script never, I repeat, NEVER had this war going on between the humans and the fairies. At least this new addition brings something at least exciting to the table.

Re: Maleficent (2014): Official Discussion
A user on IMDb did a comprehensive comparison of shots from this newest trailer with excerpts from the original script. Almost every shot in the trailer presents an improved change of some kind.
SPOILERS
SPOILERS
marauteatime on IMDb wrote: Trailer: Diaval goes from Stefen's castle to meet with Maleficent. The script shows no visual of Diaval discovering the birth of Aurora. He does that offscreen. Then again, it is possible he discovers offscreen in the movie too. It is unknown.
Script: Maleficent bathes in the cold water. Diaval lands on a tree branch nearby. Maleficent washes her back and finds one of the long raised scars. Her fingers linger there. Maleficent covers herself with her cape as she emerges from the water. She waves her hand.
MALEFICENT
Now a man.
Diaval transforms into a MAN hidden by bushes. She tosses him a small bag of clothes she carries for him.
MALEFICENT
Tell me.
Diaval emerges, fully clothed. He's nervous about delivering the news.
DIAVAL
King Stefan and Queen Leah have had a child.
Trailer: Phillip seems to be alone when he bends to kiss the sleeping Aurora.
Script: The fairies force themselves on Phillip trying to force him to kiss the sleeping Aurora.
Trailer: The three good fairies happily dance over the crowd on their way to see baby Aurora, and seem like they were invited.
Script: People fill the hall. Stefan and Leah greet the well wishers. Knotgrass, Flittle, and Thistlewit enter.
STEFAN
Not those three!
LEAH
Be gracious, Stefan. They have magical gifts for our child.
Trailer: Knotgrass seems really kind as she floats about the crib and wishes Aurora to have the gift of beauty.
Script: The Pixies stand over the baby's bassinet. Old Queen Mary attends her. Knotgrass reaches in and touches the baby's forehead.
KNOTGRASS
Sweet Aurora, I give you the gift of beauty.
Trailer: King Stefan is terrified to see Maleficent at Aurora's Christening.
Script: It's Thistlewit's turn. A door bangs open. WIND whistles through. THUNDER CRACKS and Maleficent is there. Diaval flies in and perches on her shoulder.
STEFAN
Maleficent!
He's suddenly very afraid.
Trailer:
MALEFICENT
I too, shall bestow a gift on the child.
Script: They start to run toward her, but Maleficent holds her staff up. They freeze, mid-step.
MALEFICENT
Calm down. I'm not going to steal your baby. I merely want to give her a gift.
Trailer: Maleficent stands in front of Stefan, facing the crowd, and green flames erupts around her. She then starts walking away as Stefan unfreezes and appears to either go after Maleficent, or orders his guards who give chase while Stefan's wife rushes to the baby.
Script: Maleficent laughs.
MALEFICENT
Not sorry enough.
She lifts her robes. White fire erupts around her.
STEFAN
Wait! Listen to me!
She disappears in the smoke. Diaval circles the hall. He flies out the open door. Commotion erupts. Leah runs to the bassinet and scoops up the child.
Trailer: Aurora goes up to the wall of the Thorn Forest.
Script: Never happens.
Trailer: Maleficent keeps her mouth shut, does a hand motion and Rival is once again transformed into a bird.
Script: Maleficent always says " Now a" before she transforms him.
Trailer:
MALEFICENT
(To Diaval)
Bring her to me.
Script: Does not happen. Instead she tells him to stay and watch Aurora.
Trailer:
In the Fairy Forest Aurora does not smile, but calls out.
AURORA
I know you're there. Don't be afraid.
MALEFICENT
I am not afraid.
AURORA
Then come out.
MALEFICENT
Then you'll be afraid.
Maleficent emerges from behind some trees.
Script: Maleficent's shadow looms over her suddenly. It's distinct and clear in the moonlight. Aurora smiles to see it.
AURORA
I know you're there.
The shadow retreats suddenly. She turns around.
AURORA
Don't be afraid.
Maleficent's amused voice answers from behind the rocks.
MALEFICENT (O.S.)
I'm not afraid.
AURORA
Then come out.
MALEFICENT
You'll be startled.
Trailer: Tree monsters.
Script: None. Unless they're suppose to be wood elves which is highly unlikely
Trailer:
MALEFICENT
Aurora. There is an evil in this world. I cannot keep you from it.
Script: The closest thing in the script to this is....
MALEFICENT
Not everyone you meet in the moors is benevolent. You must never come out here alone.
Trailer: Maleficent riding a black horse to Stefan's castle.
Script: Maleficent wishes she had wings again and instead a pure white horse comes to her and she rides it to Stefan's castle.
Trailer: Aurora enters a room that looks like a spinning wheel graveyard and prices her finger.
Script: She enters the tiny room. The clock CLANGS again. TWO. Queen Mary sits under the moonlight, working at a spinning wheel.
Trailer: Maleficent in the woods uses her magic to levitate some guards and happily and evily tosses them.
Script: Does not happen. Instead she confronts them, but a great silver wolf is what ends up chasing the guards away, and the wolf turns out to be her father.
Trailer: Two fairies open a door as Phillip is on the ground getting up. The fairies seem to be helping him.
Script: He leans down. The Pixies hold their breaths. The prince kisses the princess. Their lips touch gently...perfectly.
And nothing happens. The Pixies faces fall. Aurora sleeps on. Phillip looks at the Pixies.
PHILLIP
Is something supposed to happen now?
PIXIES
GET OUT!
They push him out. They trudge out to find another candidate.
Trailer: An awoken Aurora seems to be racing somewhere in concern.
Script: The closest thing to this is her racing up the stairs sobbing.
Trailer: A war between human knights and fairies.
Script: HAHAHAHAHAHA....Not even a whisper.
Trailer: Maleficent near a tree in some swampland magically produces her staff.
Script: Maleficent goes to a ruined castle twice, chats up with her demon father, and he gives her her minions and her staff.
Trailer: Maleficent creates a great wall of a Forest of Thorns to separate fairies and humans.
Script: The three Pixies fly toward the Moors carrying gifts from the humans. As they approach the FAERIE PATH, it LIGHTS ON FIRE. FLAMES SHOOT skyward in front of the Pixies. They draw back. After a moment the FLAMES dissipate.
THISTLEWIT
What was that?
KNOTGRASS
Sudden inexplicable flames from nowhere.
They fly forward and SMACK into an INVISIBLE WALL. They fall into the grass, dropping their loot. Thistlewit gets up and tries to fly forward again. She hits the invisible barrier and falls again. She tries yet again, and falls.
KNOTGRASS
It's a binding spell.
FLITTLE
We cannot pass.
Thistlewit keeps flying at the barrier like an angry bee. They drag her away.

Wow lord-of-sith! That list of differences of the leaked script and the new trailer is starting to sound like that Linda Woolverton, Paul Dini, and John Lee Hancock had done changes to the screenplay together and it's improved the movie on some level.

I'm guessing it'll be the exact D23 clip, as it's the most recognizable scene to general audiences. Could obviously be wrong though.Musical Master wrote:Maleficent will have, yet another exclusive preview on the Grammys this Sunday.
Looks like Disney is actually pulling through with the marketing for this movie in a big way! Maybe it's just because I've paid particular attention to this movie's progress way more than I did with The Lone Ranger (which I paid zero attention to) or even Oz: The Great and Powerful (which I paid moderate attention to) but it seems like Disney is making sure at ton of people are aware that this movie exists, which is key. Doesn't exactly hurt that Frozen is this year's biggest success story at the box office (it's being re-released as a sing-along, ensuring that it hits 400 million domestically) meaning nearly everyone saw the teaser.
Keep it coming Disney!

I'm not saying that it will be bad, it's just a very strange choice for Lana to sing Once Upon a Dream in a movie about Maleficent. But you're right, we'll wait and see.disneyprincess11 wrote:I can see it a little. Saving judgement until I hear itMusical Master wrote:Well...... This is.... Weird.

I am so excited Lana Del Rey will be singing 'Once Upon A Dream' !! She has a beautiful voice, and such an interesting way to put over a song.
EDIT: I don't know why I can't make a hotlink ?!

Completely agree!!
Besides (I'm not dissing Lana in any way) but picking her is no more perculier than having Mariah Carey sing the Oz end credits song, surely?! That was a bey odd choice indeed.

Re: Maleficent (2014): Official Discussion
I'm disappointed with the new trailer I will go and the see the movie when it hits the cinemas , but with great trepidation! I loved the great Tchaikovsky score from his Sleeping Beauty ballet in the original animated movie and this will be a major loss.
Maleficent the Mistress of all Evil in animated form is a tough act to follow and I'm none too happy with the live action clips which I've seen so far in the teaser trailer and the slightly longer version released last week!
I hope I'm proved wrong but it looks a sorry mess to me thus far!

I just found out an amusing coincidence. This is not the first time that Linda Woolverton and Paul Dini worked together, they were episode writers on the show: Star Wars: Ewoks in the 1980s.
