Re: Frozen: Part V
I saw Frozen for a third time and something really neat happened. Behind me there was this family who had a 10 year old boy with them kinda sometimes talking loudly during the movie. Normally one would get mad, however I noticed something from the way he was talking and the way his family was trying to tell him to be quiet. During the Credits I asked if he was autistic and he indeed was. I shared with him that I was diagnosed back in 1996 with Asperger's and know the struggles that come with it. The family and I talked during the credits and I shared with them my Disney trip and they were very kind. Before the movie, I could tell the family was on pins and needles afraid that they might get kicked out because no body understood this kid. Afterwards I felt they were more peaceful, perhaps seeing a almost 27 year old with Asperger's is doing okay and great gave them hope. Before I left the mom gave me a hug and thanked me for being so kind. Not only do I think I gave them a magical experience, but they gave me one and a very memorable one at that for me.

Does anyone know how much later Frozen opened in foreign countries compared to the US? Was just looking at boxofficemojo.com again and comparing, and was curious why it's foreign is behind Tangled/Brave when the domestic puts those two to shame?
Glad to see the soundtrack doing so well; it deserves it.

it was released on boxing day [dec 26] in new zealand. im assuming australia would have been the same or maybe a few days earlier. i have heard there were limited screenings in nz before xmas, such as a school booked out a theater for their students to see it.Disney's Divinity wrote:Does anyone know how much later Frozen opened in foreign countries compared to the US? How are the modern princesses more intelligent?SWillie! wrote:That's an interesting point about the different eras. It certainly makes sense, and I think it echoes what was/is considered most attractive or desirable in a person at the times the films were made. It seems that Frozen is doing very well overseas as well, read from the forums that it is outperforming Tangled in most locations.Disney's Divinity wrote:Does anyone know how much later Frozen opened in foreign countries compared to the US? Re: Frozen: Part V
I finally saw Frozen on the 28th on bootleg dvd with my cousin (12 years
old). I thought it was good. Compared to Tangled, the music was better, but the script was...well, how should I say it-not concise? It had hilarious moments. My cousin liked it even though she thought there was too much singing. (This is coming from a girl who watches Teen Beach Movie.)
But that is only my general perspective on the film.
My full review is a response to the not-so-good expectations which are the following:
1.Not enough Elsa screentime
2.Anna is just like Rapunzel
3. Animation and Designs were lackluster
4. Too much singing
5. Hans as the villain
6. Sequel Ideas?
1. Frozen did display a fair amount of Elsa footage, but not enough for the fans too consider Elsa as the main character. Elsa was presented artistically by the animation and music while Anna was presented with dialogue. Elsa was still presented well considering this film had a lot to tackle. The script wasn't constructed to tell a buddy-buddy roadtrip movie or a tale about an emotionally unstable woman. Infact,it was able to focus on the sister relationship with three other character arcs under two hours. Buck and Lee pulled it off. In order to give Elsa,Hans, and the Duke the desired screentime, Disney would have to go Peter Jackson on the script.
2. Fans would know well that Anna and Rapunzel are two completely different characters, but I see where the comparison is coming from. My fellow ardent animation fans, consider this: it is strictly based on the animation style. Just imagine Anna in clay animation or photo-realistic cgi. Would the comparison exist? The comparison you are seeing is only a blond teenage girl with big eyes and quick body movements. For most of the film, Anna was still the bubbly aloof optimist not sassy or emotionally polarized. IMO Elsa was more like Rapnzel, but this opinion is not that important to my review. Let's continue with the next point.
3. The desings and animation in Frozen were impressive: however, it wasn't rendered with superb detail like Tangled. Frozen did show an eye-catching kingdom while Tangledgave humanistic character desings. But at the same time, both movies were constructed differently to give a different product. While Tangled had the advantage of presenting an intimate depiction of the charcters, Frozen was artistically composed to suit the musical genre. The smooth "cinematography", the costumes, and the set designs contributed to Frozen's musical environment.
4. We have been through Moulin Rouge, High School Musical, Les Miserables, and Sweeney Todd . Frozen is tame with it's musical number screentime. Trust me, the movies listed above have more singing....especially from non-professionals.
The music and score of Frozen was fantastic-not only fantastic, memorable. The most of lyrics are literal and sometimes ridiculous. Other than that, it was good. I love how Elsa and Anna have their own themes throughout the movie.
Comment from my cousin: she loved Santino Fontana's voice. She wants him to voice her original anime characters.
5. I am still not keen on the whole 'Hans is evil' thing. I would have preferred no villain with Hans being neutral. If the extra song was included in the movie, that would somehow explain his intentions. Due to the lack of buildup, fans can only view his persona as banal or psychotic
What do I think? I am leaning towards the "Hans was banal evil"theory. I don't think he wants to enjoy gore or pain. He just wants to do his job as a monarch. It was common in European history for monarchs to do terrible things to achieve crown status.
Anyways, people of the forum, what are your perspectives on Hans? Banal or Psychotic?
6. Because the Frozen Fandom consists of ridiculous people, I have come across some ridiculous sequel ideas and fanfictions that make Emma's stuff look conservative. Most of the fanfics focus on Elsa finding love; however, there is one realistic fanfic about Elsa's decision on the fate of Hans.( Its not finished, but it's better than the corny love fanfics)
Now, people of the forum, embrace yourselves for my terrible, terrible, plot synopsis for a Frozen sequel. It is censored with the black bars due to it's evil quality.
Prince Hans bargains with the trolls for a new identity to avoid punishment in his home kingdom. What he receives from this bargain is a homely countenance/physique and the power of storytelling. But the bargain is dependent on his initiative to eventually tell the truth to anyone of true royal blood. Whenever he tries to avoid this initiative, the disguise weakens.
So yeah.... it's actually a spin-off about Prince Hans transformed into Hans Christian Andersen. Stupid. But it could be artistically impressive. It would be cool if Hans story illustrations were hand-drawn animations while the rest of the movie was cgi.
Feel free to talk to me more about these six points.

I know a lot of people "pair the spares" in regards to Elsa and Hans. Which was probably gonna happen no matter what their outcomes would be. I don't see harm with Elsa getting romance; heck, I promote it, if anything.Candy-Bonita95 wrote:6. The ships in the fandom are incredible. There are people who ship Anna with Elsa...
One theory I've read is that Hans was so desperate to be King because he wanted to prove his masculinity. He's thirteenth in line, with twelve older brothers. According to this study, men with older brothers are more likely to be homosexual. That whole rushed engagement with Anna? "Proof" that he likes girls. Refusing to kiss Anna to potentially save her life? He liked her, but because she's a female, he can't love her. Then he makes that whole "I'm evil" spiel to cover up the fact that he doesn't like girls. And attempting to assassinate Elsa? "Proof" that he's such a bad ass man that he'd cut off human heads.Candy-Bonita95 wrote:5. I am still not keen on the whole 'Hans is evil' thing. ...Yeah, that crosses a lot of assumptions. So I'll just say banal because that twist felt forced to me.

Re: Frozen: Part V
I don't agree. Anna, Rapunzel, and even Ariel are very similar in personality, and it has nothing to do with their animation style or their looks, although they do resemble each other. They are all bubbly, somewhat awkward teenagers with bright spunky happy personalities, though they are not necessarily happy. None of them are remotely aloof. Anna is definitely what I would call sassy too. They are in different situations in their respective movies, but I feel like if they were put in the same situation with the same upbringing, they would act similarly. This would not be true with say, Belle or Tiana or Jasmine, who are also drawn in the same big eyed style.Candy-Bonita95 wrote: 2. Talk about a sharp contrast from the "I've seen Frozen ten million times in theatres" comments.Candy-Bonita95 wrote:I finally saw Frozen on the 28th on bootleg dvd with my cousin.
In regards to multiple viewings while it's still playing, I've only seen it once at that preview screening, but I haven't been in a hurry to watch it again until the Blu-Ray comes out. The whole film is actually still fresh in my memory and there are a bunch of other films that I wanted to see as well this holiday season.
Though I don't watch a lot of movies more than once when they're still playing, even if I really love them. The only exceptions would be Tangled, Toy Story 3 and The Princess and the Frog, each of which I saw twice in theatres.
