Plus, I never really liked the blu-ray cover (all that blue was really necessary? ew)
Will be a great addition.
I just hope we got the same transfer (can you imagine if they decide to release in the OAR? I wouldn't like it at all)
I think I just stepped into the Twilight Zone. Isn't the OAR what we always want with these films?

Original Aspect Ratio. You probably already know that's the dimensions of the image.Lnds500 wrote:Define OARThe_Iceflash wrote:

I know what OAR stands for.ajmrowland wrote:

I meant define what OAR means for Sleeping Beauty specifically.
Cause if it means "the way it was shown in theaters", screw "OAR".

Sleeping Beauty's was 2.55:1. Produced and exhibited in 70mm theaters.
Side Note: Your wording, without the raz smiley, also implies to me that your a little upset. This is just my communicating skills being conflicted though.

The Platinum release wasn't in the OAR (and by "OAR" I mean the way Disney exhibited it in the theathers). In the Platinum we got a 2.55:1 ratio, while the original theather ratio was 2.20:1. (Or I did a huuuuge mistake).The_Iceflash wrote:rodrigo_ca wrote:Back in the day I was just beggining my collection I passed the blu-ray because it was a horrible release here in Brazil (single disc even though everything was relesead subtitled portuguese in the Canadian edition, no slipcover, etc) and an ridiculous price.

The Platinum release is the never before seen OAR that was from a restoration of the original film negatives, while in 1959 in the big theatres was a "regular Cinemascope" of 2:20. You were right.rodrigo_ca wrote:The Platinum release wasn't in the OAR (and by "OAR" I mean the way Disney exhibited it in the theathers). I always thought that the OAR was the way it was first meant to be seen. So, in the case of Sleeping Beauty, we got a better ratio but not the original one. Thank you for the correction and sorry for the mess

It's great that the Platinum release was the widest the film has ever gotten.

Re: Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition Blu-ray - 2014
Just got my hands on the platinum blu release so I'll be skipping the Diamond. I know part of me will want it but I own the 2003 and platinum on both DVD and blu-ray so I don't need it.
It looks beautiful already and Disney blu-releases are becoming a joke. I expect Diamond to be 1 disc with one new bonus feature linking it to Maleficent. No thanks.

Well, technically it is the original one because it's the one they first intended. It's just not the original theatrical one. Except in some theatres. Right?rodrigo_ca wrote:I always thought that the OAR was the way it was first meant to be seen. So, in the case of Sleeping Beauty, we got a better ratio but not the original one.

I am curious to see if they recycle the platinum cover and just put the title on it's side being the only difference. Though, I have a feeling the cover will feature Maleficent in her non-dragon form for obvious tie in reasons.

I know the film is called 'Sleeping Beauty' but id love to have her actually awake on the cover for a change. For years we've had the same or just slightly altered shot of her asleep.
With the Platinum there were a few covers done for the French release, and the public could choose which one they wanted. They went with the usual sleeping one, but there was a cover with Aurora reaching for the spinning wheel, which needed some touching up but was pretty fantastic!

I can't link direct as my phone is being fussy, but if you google 'French Sleeping Beauty Platinum Covers', it should appear in the images section, the choice France had.

I've also thought it'd be good to show Aurora touching the spindle on the cover, or moreover with her dressed in her peasant dress in the forest. However, I can imagine that there is an expectation to not have the title character awake, and moreover for her to be dressed in full regal attire like how she is in every other piece of merchandise.

Wow! The green one in the middle with Maleficent and her dragon form together is an amazing cover!

They should use that one instead of the others.

Re: Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition Blu-ray - 2014
I do understand the desire for something fresh to look at, but ultimately Aurora is not the protagonist of the story. She's more of a symbol in a very symbolic film of what's at stake in the grand battle of Good vs. Evil.
I think she gets a lot of flack from Princess fans for being underdeveloped because of the assumption that since she is the sleeping beauty, the film should be told from her point of view, when that is not the intention. Not all title characters are intended to be the protagonist (such as Hans Christian Andersen's Snow Queen). A title character can represent an obstacle that the leading player(s) have to face or deal with, in this case, the three good fairies and their "chess game" with Maleficent, and the sleeping beauty being the end game.
Personally, I think the iconic image of her asleep while the battle rages around her is a more appropriate representation of the film.

About the covers, a lot of blu-ray releases is just taking an unused cover. It will not be a surprise for me if they use one of the french covers. (The middle one is very beautiful but I don't like all the green... maybe they can change it and use this cover)
