Frozen: Part V

I thought "Frozen" was better than "Tangled". There is one thing that I could not stand about "Tangled", and that is Zachary Levi. Maybe it's from watching every single episode of "Chuck", but I can't help but think of Chuck Bartowski whenever I hear Flynn Rider talk. His voice really sticks out like a sore thumb. I also don't care for his singing either.

But getting back on topic, I may watch "Frozen" again in 3D, which I hear, was great to watch, along with the short "Get a Horse". I'm not normally a fan of 3D, as I think of it as an excuse for theaters to charge more money, most of the time, often not working for me.

The soundtrack is just awesome to listen to.

I'm not sure one HAS to be better than the other? I think best is subjective. One person's best might very well be someone else's worst. I loved both Tangled and Frozen. Neither was flawless, but both were very enjoyable.

I do think the animation in Frozen was better than the animation in Tangled, but I enjoyed the story in Tangled a little more. But that's just me and I can see the other point (my wife loved Frozen much more than Tangled).

For me:

Tangled-Has a more organized story, better villain, much better character development, less modern in my opinion
Frozen-Better story that should be more organized, better animation, much better music, better characters and sidekicks, but the development can be very weak. I love Elsa, but i feel like that we hardly got to know her. If we spent more time with her and have like a scene where she relaxes at the snow castle, I feel like we would get to know her better.

But, I have a feeling that this will end up PATF in the public. People will love Frozen at first, but then hate it because of the story.

I disagree with that statement. Frozen is about to become Disney's highest grossing animated movie since The Lion King. I have also read reports of tourist waiting almost 2 hours at Epcot for the Anna/Elsa meet and greet. Frozen is going to go down as one of the most popular Disney movies in my eyes.

I think so too. Not only did it open huge, it has had great legs so far, indicating excellent word of mouth. I do wish Disney would get over the whole road trip thing though. PatF, Tangled, Frozen were all road trip movies, and Moana from what I've heard seems to be one too.

The Wind Rises, which is the fictionalized biography of the man who created the Zero plane used during World War II. That plot point could turn off older voters, who might not find romanticizing the creator of aircraft used to bomb Pearl Harbor a big plus.

And who else thinks this now could make a good world in Kingdom Hearts 3? i mean that ice monster would be worthy to fight with a keyblade.

Yeah! I think it would with either Anna or Kristoff being a party member. One of the big themes of the Kingdom Hearts games is the idea of the heart and since an act of true love "thaws a frozen heart", it does seem a fitting world. I hope they make Elsa a summon so she can open a big can of whoop-ice on some Heartless. (My apologies for the Batman & Robin style of that pun.)

Exactly! Road trip movies seem a bit of a simplistic copout way to tell a story to me. Instead of plot intricacies there's stuff that happens during road trip. I actually liked Tangled and Frozen a lot but they along with PatF all have the same story structure.

I actually do prefer WIR to all three if them. I don't see how it is any more formulaic than the last 3 princess movies.

But in frozen's defense, the original story it's based on is a roadtrip. Well the 90s had a certain formula of I want princesses. This era is all about road trips and klutzy princesses. Anyway I'm so proud of its b.o performance. Well done wdas!!!

I guess you're right about Snow Queen. I would say the current princesses are still in I want mode, though perhaps their I want songs aren't as blatant. Almost There, When will My Life Begin, and For the first time in Forever are all what I would consider I want songs, or serving a similar purpose. And the 90's princess movies had different ways of telling their story rather than the same beginning, roadtrip, reach goal, go home that the last 3 princess movies had. I really hope Giants isn't another road trip movie, and that Moana will be different as well.

Is it a road-trip flm? I actually expected it to be much grander journey. Anna and Kristoff make their way in about 15 minutes? Elsa walks to the site of her castle. The trolls are a horse ride away from Arendelle. Everyone travels really quickly in Frozen.

I thought it was more about Anna learning about what love is, and it just happened to be in 3 different settings: Arendelle, Elsa's castle and the troll village.

It's good to see such a diverse range of preferences within this forum! Means Disney is doing well if we're hard-pressed to pick a 'universal favourite'.
