Saw the trailer for this before Frozen, too. I definitely can't wait to see it, but I'm a little disappointed in the horns still. Aurora/Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent's dialogue interaction alone was something I liked; would've loved if the original film had had the two characters interact.

For Maleficent the damage has been done. Death is her only release.

Just saw a really short version of this trailer attached to Frozen; got rid of the naff narration and was just basically Anjelina Jolie is....Maleficent. With a few shots of her face, building the forest of thorns, and her laugh at the end.

The trailer, which in my eyes is a proper teaser trailer, really worked for the film.
Enticing, but not too much information so it feels the whole film has been shown. Even my mother, who doesn't care for CGI fest movies, said "wow, she looks like she was born to play this role!" And it has made her want to see the movie! I haven't yet found the trailer on YouTube, but when it does pop up ill show you what I mean!

No, it isn't that one I'm afraid. This trailer cut out Aurora altogether, and was 30 seconds long probably ?

I can't find what you are talking about, however though I have a theory on what it was.

Lately a few days or to week before the teaser trailer actually hits, they release a teaser of the teaser trailer. My theory is that's what you saw

Well it was a theatrically released trailer, as it played before 'Frozen' in the cinema this weekend. Could it not just be the UK teaser trailer ?

I do get what you mean RE the teaser of the teaser trailer though, but I don't think this was it.

It was really mysterious though, and so much more interesting than the longer trailer.

Whatever it was, perhaps it did only play in the UK since I can't find it anywhere.

I think it might be the official UK trailer for it, newly attached to Frozen.

   To the gif.

But seriously, I am interested in it dispite of an inconsistant writer (Linda Woolverton), and the criticisms surrounding it.

I'm going to give this movie a shot. It however will not be opening weekend and not in 3D unless I have free tickets. All the signs for me that hint many elements of that horrid script still exist being Maleficent having spied on Aurora since she was very little. That fits the bill of it. Whether it's still in the story that Maleficent comes to love Aurora is yet to be seen. Also the round stone in the trailer the fairies are gathering looks almost like the one that when Maleficent walks on it it squeals or screeches as a sign she is not the real queen of the fairies when she tries to take the throne herself but later, but later when Maleficent brings Aurora to the stone, it does a more pleasant sound saying she is the rightful ruler.

Probably right now the only thing that might get me in the theater is Angelina Jolie's performance in the teaser trailer

I think Maleficent the character will be amazing due to Angelina. Not so sure about the plot though.

For me it's Angelina Jolie's performance and the amazing visuals of Disney's fantasy movies that makes me want to see this movie.

I am sure the story/plot will be rather horrible, and the casting of Aurora seems like a bad choice to me. She is not beautiful enough and she looks to young, more like a child than a woman (and although Aurora in the movie is supposed to be 16 years old, she looks a lot older). Why they did not hire older actors to play Aurora and Phillip I can't imagine.

I am also baffled by the re-naming of the three good fairies, why could they not use the names from the movie and try to make every character look like their animated counterpart? In contrast Maleficent herself looks a lot like the animated version. I am also sceptical to the inclusion of those fairy creatures we see in the teaser trailer.

But - it's always a possibility that we will be plesantly surprised;)

I don't understand this attitude of being negative towards a film that hasn't even been released yet. It's the equivalent of you working on a school project and the teacher dismissing it before seeing it purely because he was underwhelmed with your previous work. Not really fair to be dismissive when the filmmakers are working hard to make a good film. No director sets out to make a bad movie, after all, and we won't know it's bad until actually watching the whole movie from start to finish.

I've seen screenwriters work on both movies I like and movies I dislike (Jeff Nathanson comes to mind. Huge fan of Catch Me If You Can and The Last Shot, but he also wrote Rush Hour 2, which is one of my least favourite comedies of all-time). So even if you were underwhelmed by Woolverton's previous work, there's no indication this will be disappointing, too. Not to mention, Paul Dini is an excellent writer who himself knows a thing or two about writing complex, two-dimensional villains. He brought sympathy to the Joker, Harley Quinn and especially Mr Freeze, while still not shying away from why they are villains and that they are responsible for terrible things. I'm sure he will do the same thing with Malificient.

The negativity doesn't just spring from anywhere though; there is genuine confusion over the plot and the confused line between being a genuine prequel to the Classic to a whole new separate entity. They have made Angelina look the spit image of the animated version of Maleficent, and it looks like she has been very inspired vocally by Eleanor Audley. But on the other hand, we have Aurora being very far removed from her animated version, and with copious amounts of name changes when the characters and their purpose have stayed the same.

It really feels like they weren't quite sure what they wanted this movie to be in all honesty, and it has got stuck somewhere in-between.

How do we know the plot is confusing, without watching the whole movie? Context and execution is everything. Even a trailer isn't enough to properly show the story. Especially with Disney, who we all know is hardly honest in their marketing materials.

I don't mean the plot is confusing, the actual backstory is bizarre when compared to the original film.

And a script was leaked, that's where the information is coming from, and the initial apprehension. The trailer just seems to confirm the script, which many find to be a downer.
