Disney on Netflix

Post by SWillie! »

I know this was posted in the Disney Movies Online thread, but I figure since this is a multi-year deal, it deserves its own thread. That way we can keep track of which movies are available, new additions, etc. For starters, here's an article about the deal:

http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2 ... ey-movies/

So what do you guys think? Are you excited about this deal? Will you watch Disney movies on Netflix? Will this make any of you who don't currently have a Netflix account sign up?

I guess I might watch some that I dont own. My parents pay for netflix, so It's kinda free for me. I use it more as a trial and non-hardcore viewing.

Slim pickings right now if you like Walt-era titles and animated movies in general, the Muppet movie is on there so yay. If you are into the Disney Channel teen movie glut though you are more than covered.
I find you pompous, judgemental, and completely self-absorbed.........would you be my friend?

I don't understand, Does this mean the heavily-promoted "Disney Movies Anywhere" or "DSAA" is not happening after all?

Not really sure yet... I hope not. As I mentioned in the other thread, I think if Disney used their own service they would obviously have greater control over the content, organization, and overall aesthetic of the service (a department I personally think Netflix is lacking in). But with this deal it does certainly seem that they've decided to go in a different direction for now.

Just watched Mulan, Hercules and The Hunchback of Notre Dame on Netflix in HD and they look absolutely stunning. Definitely taken from the new Blu-ray masters. Also watched The Prince and the Pauper and the Brave Little Tailor, which also looks fantastic in HD. Loving all the HD Disney content on Netflix. Now I don't have to buy all those stupid 2-movie collection Blu-Rays, which I refuse to support.

I was planing on buy those titles internationally, where the original films are sold by themselves and yet they are playable in the US.

But... Won't this be Disney's way of shooting themselves in the foot financially? Because I can't help but think this will hurt their Blu-ray sales.

I didn’t think the Disney-Netflix deal started till 2016 but they’re already adding a ton of content. I’m not including the Disney Channel movies or TV shows (or the hundreds of Air Bud spinoffs), and this is by no means a complete list but just to give you an idea of how much there is.

Shorts

Mickey and the Beanstalk (multi-short collection)
Three Little Pigs (multi-short collection)
The Prince and the Pauper (multi-short collection)
The Tortoise and the Hair (multi-short collection)
Wind in the Willows (multi-short collection)
The Reluctant Dragon
Cars Toons: Maters Tall Tales

DAC

Dumbo
Alice in Wonderland
The Sword in the Stone
The Aristocats
Robin Hood
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
The Rescuers
The Fox and the Hound
The Great Mouse Detective
The Rescuers Down Under
Pocahontas
The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hercules
The Emperor’s New Groove
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Treasure Planet
Lilo & Stitch

DTVs

The Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue
The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars
Pocahontas 2: Journey to a New World
The Tigger Movie
Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas
Tarzan & Jane
Mickey*Donald*Goofy The Three Musketeers
The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2
Mulan 2
Stitch! The Movie
An Extremely Goofy Movie
Atlantis: Milo’s Return
Lilo & Stitch 2
The Fox and the Hound 2
Kronk’s New Groove
Leroy & Stitch
Brother Bear 2
Schoolhouse Rock: Earth
Tinker Bell
Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure
Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue
The Secret Wings

Live Action

Escape to Witch Mountain
One Magic Christmas
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
The Big Green
James and the Giant Peach
Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves
101 Dalmatians
I’ll be Home for Christmas
Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2
Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
Disney Nature: Wings of Life
Disney Nature: The Crimson Wing
Inspector Gadget 2
Captain America: The First Avenger
Thor
The Avengers

Many of these are in full HD with their Blu-Ray restorations. It’ll be crazy when the deal goes into full effect.

I've seen a lot of Disney movies on Netflix, either on physical DVDs or on demand (such as Roku). Many of them were live-action films since we have almost all the animated films already. Here's the complete list of films I saw on Netflix thus far (either on DVDs or on Roku):

1. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
2. Follow Me, Boys!
3. The Shaggy Dog (1959 version)
4. Hans Brinker or the Silver Skates (a two-part Wonderful World of Color episode later cobbled together into a movie)
5. In Search of the Castaways
6. Candleshoe
7. Walt and El Grupo
8. Snowball Express
9. Freaky Friday
10. Undiscovered Disney Parks (a special shown often on the Travel Channel)
11. The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
12. Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier
13. Davy Crockett and the River Pirates
14. The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band
15. The Rocketeer
16. Dumbo
17. Fun and Fancy Free
18. Wreck-It Ralph
19. The Sword In the Stone
20. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

Kind of an interesting mix of films there, if I do say so myself.

Follow Me, Boys is not on Netflix as are a bunch of the other titles Big Disney Fan listed . . .

Most of those are available in demand through Amazon and other companies that offer streaming, perhaps that's what he or she meant. Or if they mean on DVD for rental that would make their list correct. I thought they meant streaming.

They are not the same Netflix UK has very little compared to the US due to streaming restrictions.
Netflix UK has at a glance:

Peter Pan
Princess and the Frog
Tangled
Meet the Robinsons
Lilo and Stitch
Tarzan
Tinkerbell 1
Cars
A Bug's Life
Toy Story 3
Princess Diaries 1 and 2
Winnie the Pooh
Pocahontas 2
Black Caudron
Oliver and Company
Fox and the Hound 2
Kronk's new Groove
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Tron Legacy
Enchanted
Alice In Wonderland (Tim Burton Version)
The Three Musketeers
The Muppet's Movie and The Muppets
There is also a selection of other Disney Live action films like Hocus Pocus and The Sword and the the Rose, Freaky Friday...

I mean it's not terrible but it's not great either. Very few animated classics.
Settling Soul mates? That is grim. And I've played Monopoly alone.

It had been a while since I had signed onto my account, so I was SO pleasantly surprised when I did this weekend and saw SO many Disney films! (I need my Emperor's New Groove back though...)

Since this list was put up, the number of Disney movies has gone up. Now I have seen:

21. Who Framed Roger Rabbit
22. Escape To Witch Mountain
23. One Magic Christmas (kind of a sad movie)
24. Johnny Tremain
25. The Fox and the Hound
26. Night Crossing
27. Big Hero 6
