Frozen: Part V

Besides Slant, this is probably the most "critical" review of Frozen I have seen. He gives it a 6.8 out of 10.
I wonder if this will be recognized on Rotten Tomatoes..... The critic isn't listed and I have never seen him post on Paste before. And if it is, will it be Rotten or Fresh?

Re: Frozen: Part V
I'm not surprised to hear this in the review -- if anything, it's something that I've seen more often in reactions from people who've seen pre-screenings than from professional critics:
It obviously won't hurt the film with most critics, but I definitely think there was a missed opportunity to do more with Elsa's character and less of the road-trip movie.
It reminds me of this comment earlier in the thread:Local dignitary the Duke of Weselton (Alan Tudyk) proclaims Elsa a monster, but Anna knows better and resolves to track down her sister and bring her back to the kingdom.
This is where Frozen descends all too willingly into less interesting and more conventional territory. Elsa, the most compelling and conflicted character, is disappointingly marginalized when the focus shifts entirely to Anna’s standard hero’s quest. Despite the fact that Elsa is the character with the story’s dramatic arc, Anna is the plucky, spunky and cute one, so she gets the spotlight. She also gets the love interest—not just Hans, but also orphaned mountain man Kristoff (Jonathan Groff)—and the wacky sidekick, an irrepressible talking summer-loving snowman named Olaf (Josh Gad). Elsa gets a power ballad.
If that sounds out of balance, it is. Elsa and Anna’s bond is the crux of the story, but never receives the loving care and attention afforded in Disney’s significantly superior previous feature, Wreck-It Ralph.
After a while, when one knows the story inside and out, one loses perspective on it. But someone coming to the story fresh can see it as it is.thedisneyspirit wrote:Hm, reading the script is a big surprise. The film is very much a road-trip/romantic comedy film ala Tangled or Princess and the Frog more than a "sisters bonding" movie. There's not much Elsa in there.

Re: Frozen: Part V
In my opinion, after I saw the movie of course, I felt like this was the best way they could have told the story. Before they got together, Anna and Elsa needed to grow independently so that they can learn what they have, what they don't, what they love, and what they are willing to lose.
Yes, they probably could have spent more time on Elsa and her internal journey, I will give you that. But in the end, splitting them up was for the end benefit!

I think it's ironic while the critics are praising most of the songs except LIAOD, it's vice versa here (along with IS & of course, LIG). Sadly, I think it's Rotten.

A few "rotten" scores are inevitable, but the good news is, this will clearly end with an overall fresh score, most likely the same as Tangled's 90% or even a little higher. Even Toy Story 3 has a 99% due to 3 bad reviews. Let's hope the box office matches with the great reviews.
Re: Frozen: Part V
hm, I would say 6.8/10 is still "fresh" for RTdisneyprincess11 wrote:Sadly, I think it's Rotten.

Yup, it's rotten! 94%. Still early on though! I'm nervous as to how it will fluctuate
Oh, and calling "Frozen" a Disney movie from the 1940s is actually attractive to me. Haha. I don't know what you guys think!

Not really. That guy has posted it before on a bunch of different sites. He is just trolling. This is interesting:

Yes. That same thing was posted in the user reviews of Rotten Tomatoes and discussed earlier in this very thread.Coolmanio wrote:Not really. That guy has posted it before on a bunch of different sites. He is just trolling. This is interesting:

The only reason RT dropped from 100 to 94 was because there are still so few reviews. As more come in, the score will likely rise back up a point or two.
Absolutely. That's not a bug; that's a feature. If anything, Frozen would be even a shade better than it already is if it were a tad more like a Disney movie from the 1940s.Coolmanio wrote:Oh, and calling "Frozen" a Disney movie from the 1940s is actually attractive to me. Well Frozen got its first "rotten" review, albeit the reviewer gave the movie a 6.8 out of 10.

Re: Frozen: Part V
It's unfair though to call the review awful just because it counts as rotten. He actually did make some plausable points there, and at least he backed up his opinion well. (I agree that Elsa seems to be underused and that she does have way more potential than Anna. That seems to be the reviewer's main flack towards Frozen, and frankly, judging by the junior novel, I agree with him.)
Besides, I actually really dislike Rotten Tomatoes' voting scheme. Sure, it works as a decent gauge on whether or not a movie is awful (heck, even then, say if a movie gets a rotten rating of 40 with 100 critics it still means that about 4/10 critics liked the movie, so it's not very good for that either), but there still are many critics who don't see things that black-and-white (or that "rotten or fresh") and end up writing neutral reviews (like the first "rotten" Frozen reviewer) which throws the whole rating system off. At least sites like Metacritic have an in between opinion (yellow).

Re: Frozen: Part V
Hey, at least that guy had a intelligent bad review.
He actually saw the movie and it shows. He had a good opinion.
WAY better than this review which looked like it was written by a troll:
http://www.movieweb.com/movie/frozen-20 ... uTcfdDwosy
"The downside of trying to rekindle that unique magic is that Frozen feels a little like a Las Vegas tribute show: it hits all the recognizable beats without quite capturing the soul of what it’s paying tribute to.” (But, I have to say: They weren’t trying to capture the soul of the original. That’s the point
)
vs
"While I expect a severe lack of anything meaningful in films of this ilk nowadays, I was especially caught off guard by FROZEN’s inciting incident; it’s prologue of a foundation for everything to come. The story herein is so unfathomably stupid, so incomprehensibly hole-ridden, so uncompromisingly idiotic, so incredibly infuriating, that it single-handedly dumbs down any child within projector-playing-radius. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, simply because a movie is deemed "family" does not mean its material must be reduced to pure, patronizing idiocracy".

For the person who asked about the packaging of the soundtrack.
Yes, the deluxe edition has special packaging, it's not in the usual jewel case.
I'm on my phone right now, but if you go to Jen Lee's twitter someone tagged her and a picture.
It's also metallic and embossed.

According to Twitter, Santino Fontana/the voice of Hans actually auditioned for Kristoff. But when the story got changed, he went back for Hans.

Absolutely. In fact, as I said earlier, numerous viewers who have seen the film have stated exactly the same thing, and the point that he made was also made in the review from tumblr that I posted a while back.Tangled wrote:It's unfair though to call the review awful just because it counts as rotten. If anything, Frozen has been lucky that more professional reviews haven't faulted the film on the same score, as some early non-professional viewers have.

Yeah, Elsa had a pretty good amoint, but she should have had more. I felt like while she's definitely the most interesting, I didn't get to know her that much.

Anyways, I like all of the main characters, but I feel that Elsa is the most mysterious. For instance, what did she intend to do after she built her ice palace?
Re: Frozen: Part V
I find it really interesting that the 1 song that I'm looking forward to is Love is an Open door.
I'm really interested in seeing how the scene works, visually. The spanish music video is killing me. The scenes are very impressive and I can't wait for it.
I love that they are giving us a very heart-to-heart and spunky song between Hans and Anna. Just from the clips that I've seen so far, I would believe that it was true love between them. Which makes me kinda sad that he's evil cause Anna looks so happy in the song. T____T Even by knowing the twist before seeing the movie, I'm sure it's still going to crush me.
I just really need to listen to the song...
