Antonio Banderas will play a pirate in the upcoming "SpongeBob SquarePants" sequel, which starts filming along the Georgia coast in the new few weeks, The Savannah Morning News reported Friday.
"SpongeBob SquarePants 2," the follow up to 2004's animated film, will shoot a series of live-action scenes featuring Banderas on Tybee Island Sept. 30 and in Savannah on Oct. 6.
“This is going to be one of those films that every kid in the world is going to want to see and their parents are going to have to take them,” Jay Self, of the Savannah Downtown Business Association, said earlier this year.
The first film's live-action scenes starred David Hasselhoff. It grossed $140 million worldwide.
"Spongebob Squarepants 2" will hit theaters Feb 13, 2015.
Probably gonna have to pass. Honestly while the first three seasons of SpongeBob I would consider to be one of the greatest cartoons ever and the movie was amazing... it should've ended after the movie. The show was just awful post-movie.
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.
Why does Nickelodeon need to keep shoving this show down everyone's throats? It's becoming the network''s answer to The Simpsons. I haven't watched SS in over a decade, but I know I did not see the movie (it looked REALLY stupid back then). What will they accomplish by making a sequel?
However I haven't watched the show itself in a long time, not because I'm against Spongebob, but rather there are other shows I'd rather spend my time watching. I am surprised it hasn't ended, but I guess Spongebob is now the Nickelodeon mascot now and they don't want to be rid if it yet.
Also interesting theory for it becoming Nickelodeon's answer to The Simpsons.

Ugh! I can't stand with that stupid idiotic Spongebob Square....wait a minute! Spongebob Squarepants is in 2D animation, right? Since Spongebob is still popular and kids like Spongebob very much, maybe that second Spongebob sequel maybe the key to make Disney soooooooooo jealous, they'll finally come up a new hand drawn animated movie or change Moana into hand drawn instead of CGI. Okay I know that won't happen, but you never know. If Spongebob sequel makes it to number one in the box office, that will teach Disney a lesson for ditching 2D hand drawn animation.

That makes no sense. If you want to support it, you have to see it. Though I guess if you don't want to watch the movie, but still support it, you could buy a ticket for it and then go see something that does interest you.

I think he's mainly support the 2D Animation over the actual movie itself. That's given it is in 2D which I'd be shocked if it isn't

Yeah, I guess that's what I mean. I don't like Spongebob at all. He's been on Nickelodeon way to long. But since Spongebob is the only traditional animation that would help to give hand drawn animation a bit of a boost, then that will get Disney to realize hand drawn is not a dying art. And I bet Disney will be so jealous if that Spongebob sequel make it to number one in the box office.

Well I thought there would be 2D animation in this, right now it seems that it will be a Live Action CGI Hybrid. Some scenes will also have Spongebob as a Live Action Character while I think underwater it will be in 3D Animation.
It's now has a subtitle called Sponge out of Water.
Here's some pictures that surfaced from San Diego Comic Con
Live Action Spongebob and friends:
The poster though makes one believe that when the animated scenes will be in CGI Animation and not 2-D:
In USA Today, the director said that the CG/live-action hybrid portion is only in the final third. The characters are their regular hand-drawn selves for the large majority of the movie.
"It's the big climax of the movie," says director Paul Tibbitt. "They all come to shore in our world. And they transform themselves into an Avengers-type team to do battle. Their world is in jeopardy."

Gotta admit, I laughed during this trailer, especially when Patrick pops the bubble. Looks promising, although I'm still on the fence about seeing it in the cinema.
