Not let what that reviewer said about them put you off; they are most likely still the same, just the reviewer called them that to try and be cool and hip.disneyboy20022 wrote: not to mention Aladdin and his brothers being in a One Direction Themed Band is just plain dumb

Re: Aladdin Coming to Broadway!
Guys...
Iago is in still in the musical! He's now a man instead of a bird. And from what my friend said (she saw it opening night, I'm getting to see it next week!) he & Jafar have great chemistry. And Aladdin & co aren't in a boy band, but they are street performers.

Re: Aladdin Coming to Broadway!
Aladdin will never win a Tony Award for Best Musical because of those tony voting anti-disney jerks. What's the point? Broadway critics and Tony voters don't want Disney to win because....well....it's Disney. And Broadway hates Disney, except for The Lion King. So what's the point, anyway? Disney will always be the loser for the Tonys and The Lion King will be the only Disney musical that won a Tony for Best Musical. All the critics and tony voters care is controversy musicals that deals with sex, drug abuse, homosexuality, miserable people, nudity, and anti-traditional musical. That's why Tonys love Once musical and they hate Newsies. The new controversial musical called If/Then is going to win.
Maybe it'll be better if they stop adapting their movies into musicals and come up there own musicals like they did for Aida.

Because some folks really like Aladdin and would enjoy seeing a different version of the Disney classic.TsWade2 wrote:Aladdin will never win a Tony Award for Best Musical because of those tony voting anti-disney jerks. And would like it to do well enough so it can go worldwide so non- USA-ers can see it( cough )
Thought so ! Knew that " One Direction " thing was the Reviewer trying to be " cool "rubyslippers wrote:And Aladdin & co aren't in a boy band, but they are street performers.

This is even more enraging! Why would they make him a man instead of the parrot we all know and love?
That's like making the character of Jasmine a parakeet, which wouldn't surprise me at this point

Animal sidekicks don't translate well on stage. Keeping Iago but making him human is a very smart decision; nothing to be enraged over.Lady Cluck wrote:WHAT?????rubyslippers wrote:Guys...Iago is in still in the musical! He's now a man instead of a bird.

I never had a problem with it at the stage show at Disneyland.
LOL at expecting this to win Tonys though. I highly doubt it'll be nearly as original or epic as TLK on Broadway.
I have higher hopes for Hunchback.

A theme park attraction and a full-fledged Broadway production, despite what some cynics might say, are not held to the same standards.Lady Cluck wrote:I never had a problem with it at the stage show at Disneyland.

It's actually a pretty good show. I wouldn't be surprised if there were similarities.
But fine. No one had a problem with the Zazu puppet on Broadway.

So Iago is now Jafar's assistant...Hmm I like.
I wonder how will his costume look...Will they hire a Gilbert Gottfried look a like?

Here is a photo of the actor in costume from that initial Seattle production:thedisneyspirit wrote:So Iago is now Jafar's assistant...Hmm I like.![]()

But I've heard a lot has changed with the show (the effects, for example) so I don't know if the costumes are the same or similar anymore! I do like the little "nod" with the feathers.
You can hear his singing voice in this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dZCJrzGc7E

There are no humans in TLK at all. That's not the case in Aladdin.Lady Cluck wrote:It's actually a pretty good show. I wouldn't be surprised if there were similarities.

But Zazu is a puppet compared to most of the other characters who are in subtle costumes and just look like humans. Wasn't distracting at all.

Makes no difference from a visual perspective.
People going to see Aladdin obviously wouldn't be bothered by a talking parrot anyway
But this sounds like a mess regardless of this issue.

I think you should keep your DVD of Aladdin since you obviously don't want to see the Broadway version attempt to adapt the film in anyway.
Re: Aladdin Coming to Broadway!
I'm jumping on the upset about Jafar not singing enough bandwagon. Mega bummed. Especially since there are 2 songs that were already written for him that they could've used.
