Re: Favorite And Emotion-Provoking Disney Songs
I keep listening to that clip of "Do U Want To Build a Snowman" from Frozen, now available, and that is really a surprise to me : so poetic, magic, musical, intimate, charming, intoxicating, spellbounding and moving to tears. A perfect and tender little gem. I can swear it's gonna make us all cry.
It takes me back to " your mother and mine, love is a song, feed the birds, the journey (rescuers), the second star to the right, you'll be in my heart, healing incantation", anyway, all th most moving Disney anthems… A dramatic lullaby about love torn apart, loss of childhood and mourning… Never fell in love so deeply and quickly for a disney song for ages…

I love to hear that someone thinks the same as I thought when I first saw Tangled, it had so so music with some bits of the old disney music, specially in Healing Incantation, that gave me chills of joy, so much emotion in that one!Edthehyena wrote:Good Topic !
Songs that could make me cry...
- When Will My Life Begin part II ( the movie version when she leaves the tower. That song is THE Disney essence in the middle of a boring score)
- Healing Incantation ( Tangled again ! That song is so magic and bitter sweet ! A Menken discrete miracle...)

Re: Favorite And Emotion-Provoking Disney Songs
It isn't my favourite song in the Disney canon, but 'Someone's Waiting For You' from The Rescuers is just heartbreaking. . .
Make a wish for each sad little tear,
Hold your head up, though no one is near..
Honestly, it is just so sad !
My ultimate 'emotion-provoker' has to be 'Part Of Your World (Reprise). So full of longing and love in the beginning, then ending with the reassurance that she knows she will make her way to him somehow, someway.
And special mention to 'Stories' from the Enchanted Christmas; beautiful song in an oft-overlooked film. Doesn't make me well up per se, but it just tap into something when I hear it.

Many of my favorite Disney songs are in this medley (A Whole New World, Beauty and the Beast, Colors of the Wind):

Just add Once Upon a Dream, Part Of Your World, If I Never Knew You, Someday/God Help the Outcasts, Go the Distance and Reflection, and it would have been the perfect medley^^ (Yeah, Alan Menken is indeed my favorite composer;)

Re: Favorite And Emotion-Provoking Disney Songs
Reflection (Mulan) - I think we have all felt like this once. I feel this more often than I care to think about
Someday My Prince Will Come (Snow White) - As a little girl, this is what I wanted. And although I didn't end up with a real-life prince, he is mine.
If I Never Knew You (Pocahontas) - the only song I have ever appreciated Disney adding to a film. Beautiful.
Love (Robin Hood) - very sweet and I think it captures the feeling of a young love growing up together very well.
The Journey (The Rescuers) - Same as Reflection. Sometimes I feel like this. I also love how it builds.
When Somebody Loved Me (Toy Story 2) - Incredible.
So This Is Love (Cinderella) I want this as my first wedding dance. This or Love.
Once upon a Dream (Sleeping Beauty)- Another fantastic love song
God help the Outcasts (HoND)
When You Wish Upon a Star (Pinocchio) My childhood in a nutshell. Every Disney video introduction, every trip to Disneyland.
Almost There (reprise) (PatF) That feeling of losing something you really wanted...
There are other songs that I think are very well written and capture the feelings well like Go the Distance and Out There. As you can tell, I think a lot of the songs that speak to me now are the romantic ones as they relate best to me at this moment in time (Soppy I know).
There are some score pieces that also really get me like Farewell from Pocahontas, Love's First Kiss from Snow White and Transformation from Beauty and the Beast. Same with Married Life and Stuff We Did from Up. These tear me up.
I could go on all day.

I also think "Healing Incantation" from Tangled has a special magic to it.
"True Love's Kiss" from Enchanted is also a great and emotional song!

Wow! There's a thread here called "Worst Disney Songs" that has 8 pages! How come so many people are willing to respond to talk about what they don't like and so few respond to talk about what they do like? I don't get it! Can we top that with your choices for the best Disney songs?

Re: The Best and Emotional Disney Songs
For positivity's sake...
I thought about ranking songs from Cinderella (Whitney Houston, Bernadette Peters version) and The Nightmare Before Christmas as well, but I thought it best to leave them out. Sorry for being so focused on Disney's later soundtracks, but the Sherman Bros. isn't music I listen to much.
"Winnie the Pooh" and "Cruella de Vil," for instance--great melodies that you can hum all the time, but I just never listen to them outside the films.

Since that Saving Mr. Banks has come out and I have seen it, Feed the Birds and Let's Go Fly a Kite have a more deeper meaning than I originally thought. Especially the last scene where Travers is in tears during Mr. Banks walk in London alone.

I feel the same way!Musical Master wrote:Since that Saving Mr. Banks has come out and I have seen it, Feed the Birds and Let's Go Fly a Kite have a more deeper meaning than I originally thought. Especially the last scene where Travers is in tears during Mr. Banks walk in London alone.
And I'm so glad people hold songs from some of the more underrated movies close to their hearts, too! In my list, I'm judging the songs more on their own merit than the accompanying animation (for example, "Baby Mine" makes me bawl like a baby every time, but on its own, I can't relate to it as much as other songs).
The songs that I always can relate to are:
The Age of Not Believing
Belle (Reprise)
God Help the Outcasts
Go the Distance
Reflection
I'll Try
I'm Still Here (from Treasure Planet)
No Way Out (from Brother Bear)
Here I Am (from Camp Rock)
Santa Fe
The World Will Know (from Newsies on Broadway)
Scream (from High School Musical 3)
When Will My Life Begin
Let It Go
Songs that just break my heart:
Feed the Birds
The Journey
Someone's Waiting For You
Tomorrow Is Another Day
Once Upon a Time in New York City (and my dog's name is Oliver, so it gets me even more since I've had him!)
One Jump Ahead (Reprise)
When Somebody Loved Me
Other songs that just get to me, whether I can kind of relate to them or they're just inspirational and/or melancholy:
A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes
Candle on the Water
It's Not Easy
Bop Bop Bopbop Bop (I Love You, Too)
There's Room for Everyone
A Whole New World
Out There
Someday
Look Through My Eyes
Great Spirits
Welcome
Will the Sun Ever Shine Again
Wherever the Trail May Lead
So Close (from Enchanted)
Ever Ever After
I Thought I Lost You (from Bolt)
Ma Belle Evangeline
Rainbow Connection (from The Muppets, but a Muppets song before then)
I See the Light
Watch What Happens (Newsies on Broadway)
Seize the Day (")
Something to Believe In (")
Once and For All (")
For the First Time in Forever

Re: The Best and Emotional Disney Songs
Candle on the Water is another one that makes me cry so much. It's so soft and melancholic, kinda sad that it's the most memorable part of Pete's Dragon.
Feed the Birds. The chorus reprise is chilling. I hope Saving Mr Banks doesn't treat the Mary Poppins film like trash because it's "uncovering" new truths. The disney feminists on tumblr are already crapping on both films for destroying "precious" PL Travers and her work.
Love is a Song- the ending of Bambi always tears me up. It's probably my favorite of the Walt Era movies.
The Journey/Who will Rescue Me and Someone's Waiting for You- the Rescuers on a whole have very emotional and sentimental music. Even the sequel has a few orchestrations here and there that sound a bit sad/emotional.
Do you wanna build a snowman- Only for the ending part really, and only if Anna's voice actress delivers the right amount of emotion. I've heard some of the spanish and italian Annas that are so wooden at this part of the song...
Goodbye may seem forever- of course
The Fox and the Hound might be the most depressing film of the entire canon. I kinda wish Disney would do another film like this in the future, something with a bittersweet ending.
And though not musical, the ending of the original Winnie the Pooh is quite sad as well. There are parts of the Jungle Book that are sad mostly because of its context, the fact that Walt didn't live to see this film finish...
