Before I got into From Hell, I actually didn't even know that it was based on a graphic novel, until I saw the credits at the end. the similarities between this one and the Raven are quite close, but in this one the lead investigator is investigating Jack the Ripper, whereas in Raven, the lead (Edgar Allan Poe) is assisting the investigation of murders based on his writings, and sorry for the spoiler, but each lead dies at the end of their respective movies, so that was one big similarity. Even though they kind of felt like carbon copies of each other I did enjoy both.

PS: Who published the graphic novel of From Hell? Was it DC?

That's funny. In Canada we got a double feature of Dracula and Frankenstein with a video about Universal 100th anniversary restorations (not just the films we were watching).

It was serialized in a small adult anthology from a company I've never heard of but in the States it's in a Trade Paperback published by Top Shelf (who also have published the third Volume of Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen after he got the rights from DC, as well as some other really cool stuff).

Love this movie. Has heart and Simpsons-style humor. Nice soundtrack too.

Haven't been able to watch a lot of movies since my last posting but here are ones that I have watched:

22. Burnt Offerings (1976) - Pretty good story, I think the editing was a little off.
23. The Last House on the Left (1972) - The original and still the best.
24. The Haunting (1963) I still can't watch this movie alone.
25. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) - The original, and the remake is on my list to watch somewhere down the line.
26. The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951) The original and the best. Michael Rennie and Patricia Neal at their best. Avoid the Keanu Reeves remake like the plague that it is.
27. The Mummy (1932) - The original with the master of terror Boris Karloff.
28 The Mummy (1959) - Out of the vaults of Hammer Films this one start Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.
The only way to watch movies - Original Aspect Ratio!!!!

The only films I make a point to watch are:
Scream 1-4
Halloween 1, 2, H20 (The only ones I'll even entertain the idea of watching.)
Hocus Pocus

I do try to fit in some other older films too, like Mystery Of The Wax Museum, Freaks, maybe a few silents, and a few other slashers. But those eight films are the only ones I really make a point of watching.

Just watched the Scream series in HD for the first time ever, and it was a revelation, as I'd previously only seen the first three on fullscreen VHS tapes taped off satellite or cable, then as DivX-to-DVD conversions, while 4 had only been previously viewed as a DivX-to-DVD conversion taken from a cam rip, as it wasn't on home video yet when I grabbed it. The films are as great as I remember, although 3 and 4 are definitely weaker than 1 and 2, with 4 beating out 3 by a mile.

I watched my first film tonight: Hitch's Psycho. I've only seen about a quarter of Hitch's films, but this one, so far, is my absolute favorite.

Had a Guillermo Del Toro horror marathon last night. I watched...

Cronos (1994)
Mimic (1997) - My least favorite, but it's still decent.
The Devils Backbone (2001)

Got really behind these past two weeks so I may or may not reach my goal of 140 movies before October 31st. Here's my latest additions:

29. The Blob (1958) The beginning of the career of Steve McQueen. Pretty good effects for its day.

30. The Blob (1988) On the 30th anniversary of the original this one came to theaters. Introduced us to Shawnee Smith and Kevin Dillon. Pretty good for a remake, but I will still hold that Hollywood shouldn't mess with success.

31. Halloween (1978) The original and still the best starring Donald Pleasance and Jamie Lee Curtis.

32. Friday the 13th (1980) This is where it all started. I hear there is a remake in the works, I'll pass, thank you.

33. Spooks Run Wild (1941) Bela Lugosi looks like he had fun making this comedy/chiller which also starred The East Side Kids.

34. Chost Chasers (1951) The Bowery Boys (Leo Gorcey, Huntz Hall and the gang) try to help a young lady clear her new home of unwanted visitors. Among the hilarity is a pretty decent story.

35. Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983) Creepy thriller starring Jason Robards and Jonathan Pryce. Pretty good thrills.

36. Watcher In The Woods (1980) Bette Davis and Lynn-Holly Johnson star in this really good little film.

37. Tarantula (1955) John Agar stars in this film about giant spiders attacking a desert town.

38. Them! (1954) James Whitmore and Joan Weldon star in this scary flick about some giant ants. Look quickly for a cameo by Clint Eastwood. This was one of his first screen roles.

39. Scanners (1981) Jennifer O'Neill, Michael Ironside, and Patrick McGoohan star in this grotesque chiller. Pretty good effects that stand up today.

Will catch up on the rest a little later. Comments are welcome about any of the movies that I am watching in this Halloween-fest of movies.

However I have just watched Nightmare Before Christmas and may start my next count on my own ready to post later. Happy Halloween everybody!
