Well, Wreck-It Ralph did show that not all successful Disney films these days need to be princess/fairy tale-based.

I suppose that's true.DisneyJedi wrote:Well, Wreck-It Ralph did show that not all successful Disney films these days need to be princess/fairy tale-based.

This. Though I have to question Danny Elfman's placement on that list largely because he is Tim Burton's #1 collaborator.atlanticaunderthesea wrote:Wow, I kind of always figured that, but never seen it written out like that. Really is true then I guess, there isn't any love lost between the two. Which is a shame, as he has a lot to give. And he formed a vast past of most people's childhoods as well.
Has he been allowed to work on the Aladdin show? He also helped with the reworking of The Little Mermaid songs as well didn't he?
I do miss him at Disney I have to say.

This excerpt is from an interview Musker recently gave while doing press for the Mermaid Blu-ray. He clearly still has a soft spot for hand-drawn animation. I bet if it were up to him and Clements, Moana would have been a hand-drawn feature.

I do feel like animated films really combine a lot of different of art forms, film-making and writing and drawing and painting, to a certain extent even sculpting. It’s a wonderful medium to work with as a craftsman because it’s such so rich and so varied and so expressive.

I wonder who the art director will be on this movie.
Disney, Pixar, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Cinema fan
Re: Musker & Clements' Moana
I saw this image a few day ago on disney noticias mexico. So it's real! Funny how we have concept art images of Moana & Zootopia, but nothing for Giants. And considering what Frozen is going through on Tumblr I can see why.disneyprincess11 wrote:The first concept art has been revealed!
Here's the description of the image:
For anyone who doesn’t know about Disney’s Moana, it’s currently slated for 2018, it is “a Polynesian tale involving the island folk and the idols made famous the world over”, and is supposed to use the CG hybrid style seen in Paperman. Not sure if we’ll be seeing a new princess or not, but hopefully we do, and she’ll be POC!

I guess they're still doing the story. And I mean it could be cancelled anytime

Re: Musker & Clements' Moana
True, we have alot of story details. The only way I Giants getting cancelled is if Frozen underpreforms. If Frozen does Tangled BO numbers, Giants is a go.disneyprincess11 wrote:Well, we have the story:DisneyEra wrote:but nothing for Giants. Re: Musker & Clements' Moana
And if Frozen does underperform, will that affect any other upcoming films?
Re: Musker & Clements' Moana
Doubtful I say.DisneyJedi wrote:And if Frozen does underperform, will that affect any other upcoming films?
Big Hero 6 is a Marvel property, that's a go. Anything to do with Marvel obscure or not is worth the risk.
Zootopia is the one film WDAS is actually looking foward to. So much they announced it 3 years out! I'll never forget this quote:
"When Tangled director Byron Howard proposed a new animated film populated entirely by anthropomorphic animals, he said Lasseter “lifted me in the air like a baby Simba,” from The Lion King."
Moana, the only thing that can affect it is time, 5 years away, anything can change. But I think WDAS will stick with it for the long run, they have to much respect for Ron & John.

Re: Musker & Clements' Moana
I don't think Giants is in any trouble, with Frozen being unlikely to flop. Disney (rightly) won't care about the opinions of a few nutjobs on Tumblr.
The story will probably be much changed from what was reported in that article from Bleeding Cool, though.
Of course, it is 3 years a way and a lot can happen until then. Wasn't that long ago when King of the Elves was occupying the 2013 slot.
Anyway,

A daugther, a chief, sea, travelling, old mythology ( not that original if you ask men, but traditional flavor is good too)... Pochahontas vibe on the way !!!!!

It's not really like Pocahontas. But, it sounds like we’re getting a Princess of Color in a few years!
Sounds cool!

I sincerely hope Moana isn't a princess. We already have eleven in the lineup with two more on the way. I think a breather is needed before more are added. Like a decade at least. But knowing Disney...

Well, Giants isn't coming out for another 3 years. So, consider this the breather. But, yeah. There's a lot right nowWarm Regards wrote:I sincerely hope Moana isn't a princess. So, pretty much, here is the lineup of new princesses in these next few years:
*Elsa and Anna from Frozen-2013
*POSSIBLY Angelina from Giants (She’s not a princess, but not only is she seeked out by nobility, but she’s also high class)-2016
*MOST LIKELY Moana (Like Pocahontas, she’s a daughter of a chief. And with that, along with her being a POC, I’m betting that she’ll be added as a Princess.)-2018
I honestly think and hope that Moana will be the last princess in a while.
