I was tempted to maybe see this movie, but then this happened to Walt's plane at Hollywood Studios.

I'm still on the fence if I want to see this or not. I do know for sure I won't see it in theaters, and I 90% won't buy the movie, but renting it for $3 might be the option I go with.

Saw this with my brothers the day it came out. The theater had maybe 20 people in it. And they all made a bigger to-do over the Frozen teaser than the actual Planes film.

With that said, however, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. But it wasn't anything amazing either. It was just... a mash-up of the Cars 1 and 2 plots, featuring planes. A world race, an old timer teaching the younger character. The dirty racer who wants to win and will do anything to do so. *shrug* It's been done before, and in the same 'universe' no less.

Oh, there was definitely stereotyping,(none of it racial; all of it national) and none of the characters were memorable. The flight scenes were nicely handled, with plenty of accuracy. And a little bit of gentle humor

But not a great movie overall.
Yeah, I heard is not very well received from the critics. No surprise.

Official announcement!:

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=12261

"Walt Disney Home Entertainment has officially announced and detailed the Blu-ray release of DisneyToon Studios' Planes, which is set to arrive via 2D and 3D BD/DVD/Digital Copy combo packs later this fall. The high-flying animated adventure features the voice talents of Dane Cook, Stacy Keach, Priyanka Chopra, Cedric the Entertainer, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and John Cleese, and streets on November 19th.

Synopsis: The world of Cars takes flight in Planes, an animated comedy revved up with action and adventure. Join Dusty (Cook), a crop duster with sky-high dreams and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take on the world's fastest flyers in the greatest air race ever. Dusty has a huge heart but two big problems: he's not exactly built for speed, and he's afraid of heights. His courage is put to the ultimate test, though, as this unlikely hero aims higher than he ever imagined. With a little help from his friends, Dusty finds the courage to be more than he was built for, and the inspiration to soar.

Both the 2-disc Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy and 3-disc 3D/BD/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack releases of Disney's Planes feature 1080p video, DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround, and numerous extras, including:

Exclusive Franz's Song: Produced exclusively for Blu-ray and HD Digital, this never-before-seen completely finished animated song features the German mini-car, Franz Fliegenhosen, who encourages Dusty on his flight.
Klay's Flight Plan: Follow Director Klay Hall's personal journey during the making of "Planes" in this 15-minute featurette and discover why his family connection to aviation made "Planes" his perfect project. Fly along with Klay as he lands on a working aircraft carrier to get first-hand experience on the flight deck.
Deleted Scenes: Director Klay Hall and Producer Traci Balthazor-Flynn introduce deleted scenes from the movie, "Training Montage" and "Taj Mahal."
Top 10 Flyers: ESPN's Colin Cowherd hosts a fun, fast-paced 8-minute countdown of the greatest aviators in history.
Meet the Racers: Featurettes introducing racers El Chupacabra, Ripslinger, Dusty and Ishani."

I'm kind of surprised as well, but Zavvi has just recently started an actual "Disney Steelbook Collection", so it sounds as if we'll be getting a lot more (possibly with each release here on out??) Not all that excited about Planes, but couldn't be more excited about the collection.

Drove a little farther to buy the Target release with the bonus disc. One little deleted scene feature (2 minutes long but the scene itself is about 40 seconds). 2 other features about making & throwing paper airplanes. Quite possibly the most disappointing bonus disc ever.

Saved a bundle today at Tradepost Entertainment (formerly CD Tradepost) as they had the Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack for $13.99 and the 3-D, Blu-ray/DVD combo pack for $18.99. With my in-store credit I was able to bag both of these for under $25.

The 3-D is for my grandkids, because they have a 60" Vizio 3-D Smart Television that their daddy just bought about three months ago. The regular Blu-ray/DVD combo is for me.

Love this movie. It is right up there with the two "Cars" movies as far as entertainment value. I still found some of the innuendo in the film to not be worthy of Disney, but overall "Planes" is truly a really family-friendly film. Wish there were more 'extras' to peruse, but I am happy with what I got.

I LOVE my Blu-Ray Disc Player!
