Why? What's the matter with casting Sophia Grace as Little Red Riding Hood? I think she's pretty adorable. :)

Also, I thought Emma Stone was being considered for a role in this movie? Can somebody get me up to speed?

Goodness ! I suppose it was only a matter of time she went into film, but still ..... She can sing for sure.

A lot of cross-promotion with the Ellen show I'm feeling here ....

HALLELUJAH! :mickana: :mickana: :mickana: I saw her in Annie! PERFECT! And i called it too! :D

SOPHIA GRACE OUT, ANNIE STAR LILLIA CRAWFORD IN!
Former Annie star Lilla Crawford has replaced Sophia Grace Browlee as Little Red Riding Hood in Rob Marshall’s film adaptation of Into the Woods, according to Disney Studios.

Crawford made a big splash last season as the title star in the Broadway.com Audience Choice Award-winning revival of Annie, for which she filmed the popular video blog Simply Red. She previously appeared in the closing cast of Broadway’s Tony-winning musical Billy Elliot and the concert version of Ragtime.

Crawford joins a star-studded cast which includes Broadway veterans Meryl Streep as the Witch, James Corden as the Baker, Anna Kendrick as Cinderella, Billy Magnussen as Rapunzel’s Prince, Christine Baranski as Cinderella's Stepmother, Mackenzie Mauzy as Rapunzel and Tammy Blanchard as Florinda, Cinderella’s stepsister. The cast also includes Emily Blunt as the Baker’s Wife, Johnny Depp as the Wolf, Chris Pine as Cinderella’s Prince, Tracey Ullman as Jack’s Mother and Daniel Huttlestone as Jack.

Disney also announced that Tony winner Frances de la Tour (The History Boys) will voice the Giant and Olivier Award winner Simon Russell Beale (Bluebird) will play the Baker’s Father. The cast will also feature Olivier Award winner Joanna Riding (My Fair Lady, Carousel) as Cinderella's Mother, Richard Glover (Sightseers) as the Prince’s Steward, Annette Crosbie (Calendar Girls) as Red Riding Hood’s Grandmother and Lucy Punch (The Graduate, Bad Teacher) as Lucinda, Cinderella’s other stepsister.

Featuring a screenplay by the show's scribe James Lapine and music (including an original new song) by Stephen Sondheim, Into the Woods is currently filming on location throughout England and will hit cinemas on December 25, 2014.

Wow ... that cast list is crazy amazing!! I wonder why Sophia Grace was replaced ? (I hope all of this 'exposure' etc isn't ruining her for later on in life ....)

So excited to see Tammy Blanchard, she was amazing as the young Judy Garland in 'Me & My Shadows'. And it's funny Annette Crosbie is in there are Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother, as she was last in a fairy tale as Cinderella's fairy godmother in 'The Slipper & The Rose'! (Which is debuting on bluray this November by the way, if anyone is interested in picking up a copy, as it really is so beautiful).

Very excited for this! I wonder how they will cope with Emily Blunts pregnancy ? I suppose if they are filming now, there won't be any signs yet. When she is out and about as herself, there is no bump at all.

I wonder if she was cast at all...

And Emily's bump (I'm very happy about it, by the way) won't be a problem during the filming. Also, Colleen has dealt with this before as Helena Bonham Carter was pregnant when she filmed 'Sweeney Tood: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street'.

Now THIS is something I'm looking forward to. Into the Woods is one of my favorite musicals of all time, and I'd love to see a movie of this. Hopefully Disney does it justice. (Ironically, this musical is as far removed from Disney as you can get despite its lively first act.)

From Sophia Grace's father's twitter:
@DominicBrownlee

After careful consideration we the parents of Sophia Grace felt that as rehearsals progressed that she was too young for this part.

It was a joint decision between us and the director and producer of "Into the woods" to withdraw Sophia Grace from the film.
Thank goodness that they come to their senses!

I wonder if they withdrew her because she couldn't act for the part, or because they didn't want their child to play the target of a predatory wolf.

You know, something I hope they don't do in this is what they did in some of the revivals, and that was Jack and the Baker climbing Rapunzel's tower to kill the Giantess. Because Rapunzel's tower was supposed to be so tall you could only get to the top by climbing Rapunzel's hair. If you could climb up it easily, it would defeat the plot point of the Prince and Rapunzel not being able to leave the tower together.

But anyway, here's a picture of the England set ruins of Waverly Abbey where they are building Rapunzel's tower! It's right in the middle of the picture!:
Image

Something interesting is that for Disney's animated take on the Rapunzel story, Tangled, they were also thinking about making the tower part of ruins, from an old castle I believe.

That's super duper near me

I love it that I live so close to so many historical locations that always get used for Hollywood sets :)

You should stalk the place and take pictures to keep us updated, lol! I'd love to see the progress of the set with the ruins in comparison to the final film next Christmas.

Yes, are really going for an authentic look here! Though, I don't know if the tower fits with the abbey since the abbey wouldn't have had towers like that, or would it? The ruins don't look like they would have, because they don't look as tall. I hope they CGI a completely different set of ruins in with the tower, as well as completely CGI the castle of the princes, because this movie is about imagined people that should have their own imagined buildings.

I wonder how, especially back then, to build a tower so high it could only be reached by climbing hair. Well maybe not only reached that way, just most easily reached.

They'll probably use special effects to make the tower look higher than it actually is, right?
