Yeah, lately Disney's been dropping the ball when it comes to quality. Sword/Stone got butched, extras became missing on new Blu-ray versions, upcoming Mermaid Blu-ray got messed up during restoration edits, and unless you don't have a lossless surround system (unless you're satisfied with DVD 5.1 sound), you might not see the difference in regards to picture if the initial DVD wasn't compressed badly due to the lower amount of bonuses added onto one disc. But hey, as long as you at least have a "physical" copy of some sorts, you should be good. Anyway, not everyone upgrades all the time (some of my titles I still have on VHS, and have not upgraded since.) so you shouldn't feel bad not doing such.PixarFan2006 wrote:I'm pretty much done with double dipping on Disney Blu-Rays. I didn't care to upgrade my copy of Peter Pan and I don't care enough about the other titles to upgrade. I'm fine with my DVDs and I don't want to upgrade just to get DMR points and have the movie end up gathering dust (I'd probably just watch it once).

This is DisneyFTW1, a former Youtube account that was terminated by Disney themselves. My current Youtube Account is FilmFTW2 (FilmFTW1 was terminated). Youtube sucks when it comes to film uploads, and it sucks even more when major corporations are following your channels. But what can I do?
Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
The thing is, the world has moved on to HD television sets and although my DVDs looked great on CRT TVs, they look too soft (for me at least) when watched on HDTVs...
I still have a CRT TV though, for when I feel like watching one of my DVDs.

Has anyone gone to see the Second Screen Live yet? I'll probably end up going Sunday morning. (Both as a curiosity and so I can see the movie in a theater again. If the Second Screen basics apply to this presentation, all the crap should be on people's iPads and not on the movie screen.)
It may interest you to know that I saw an ad tonight for another Second Screen Live presentation - the next one will be The Nightmare Before Christmas.

When you go, can you ask someone if you can get into the event without an Ipad or is it BYOI (Bring Your own Ipad) I'm very curious to know the answer.
I have a feeling the song What's This was used in the ad.

Sure, I'll ask. Actually, it was just a big cardboard display in the lobby, not a trailer.disneyboy20022 wrote:BwayJ wrote: It may interest you to know that I saw an ad tonight for another Second Screen Live presentation - the next one will be The Nightmare Before Christmas.![]()

And it's from a marketing stand point that they should probably use the song What's This given it could explain what the detail are of the second screen live is. I think they just should have released in 3D theaters instead of bothering with this dumb idea of playing an Ipad during the movie....

WHAT?! THEY'RE GIVING IT ANOTHER TRY?!BwayJ wrote:It may interest you to know that I saw an ad tonight for another Second Screen Live presentation - the next one will be The Nightmare Before Christmas.

(reads up on Huffington Post article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jim-hill/ ... 59042.html
Wait... Nightmare/Christmas second screen live was tested the year before?! ... they were planning this thing long before now.
In all honestly, if it's still gonna be filled with iPads, then forget it! The amount of noise and the gadgetry used will ruin it! (also, I thought I read somewhere in their website (somewhere in Little Mermaid second screen live page) that you need to bring an ipad to get access. Yet again, I could be wrong)When you go, can you ask someone if you can get into the event without an Ipad or is it BYOI (Bring Your own Ipad) I'm very curious to know the answer.
Also, Review posted on Popsugar (what I got when googling "second screen live":

Is the 3D Blu-ray going to be released in all countries?
In particular, I would like to know if there are any 3D BDs released with a Mandarin audio track.
I see that there is a Japanese release, but not a Hong Kong or China release yet.

Hey BTW guys is the Little Mermaid Bluray out in America yet ???
Because uhm, it's out here today in stores.
Do you want me review it or something if it's not out in America yet ? I'm not keen to buy it due to it looking like a mess and already having the 2006 edition but I could rent it or something ?

Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
Has anyone seen The Little Mermaid in theaters with the Second Screen app? Was it really that annoying as we predicted it would be? Or did it turn out to be fun? And also, will the Blu-ray have the Second Screen app, like Cinderella or Bambi?

You could rent it if you want. That might not be a bad option if you're not sold on buying it.thelittleursula wrote:Hey BTW guys is the Little Mermaid Bluray out in America yet ???

Another review of The Little Mermaid Second Screen Live Event
http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disney-lit ... een-65725/
This is a list of The Good vs The Bad from the article

EDIT
Also the Bad that says you can barely watch the film due to the games is a given. That's why I feel this isn't a great idea

So if not everyone has an Ipad, they are required to share one......HE GOOD
Fun, friendly competition
Many gaming opportunities
It’s The Little Mermaid
App is stable, recovers quickly and well if you escape out of it accidentally
THE NOT SO GOOD
Need to share iPad if not everyone has one
Initial confusion over the app
Barely watched the film due to the constant games
Games got a bit repetitive (though probably good for sharing purposes)
Can be a bit expensive for a family

EDIT
Also the Bad that says you can barely watch the film due to the games is a given. That's why I feel this isn't a great idea

Isn't the 'blue' carpet premiere happening today ?
Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
Since we're all talking about The Little Mermaid, I'm going to post a link to a website.
http://www.bestmoviewalls.com/directory ... j4XcYYwebY
So, this website has a lot of wallpapers from various animated features (including Disney films) and several live action features. The animated features include The Little Mermaid, and the wallpapers are presented in various sizes (including for iPhone, iPad, PC, Mac, etc.) I can't post any of the wallpapers from the site itself, but I will post two Beauty and the Beast wallpapers that the administrator made for me. These are not featured on the site, but they give you an image of what the wallpapers look like on the site itself.
If you have questions, you can ask the site administrator. He's very helpful and he'll happily respond to your questions.

Yeah sorry it's just not looking all that promising xDdisneyboy20022 wrote: You could rent it if you want. That might not be a bad option if you're not sold on buying it.

Oct 1st isn't that far away and can't really head to the store till Tuesday so might just leave it as a huge maybe on reviewing it. I think that most people know here whether they're going to get it now or not now anyways. xD
Wonder why we got it so fast. Wished this happened with Video Games.
Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
The second screen thing is just really rude. Rude towards the audiences to think they have the attention span of a goldfish. And rude to the film, the creators and it's legacy. What on earth have we come to?

PatrickvD wrote:The problem for me here is also the "wish I could be" is visibly animated on Ariel's mouth. She's now.... silent... and she dropped to the floor real quickly. It's bizarre to imagine how this was overlooked. The editing now makes... zero sense.
It's glaring and borderline idiotic. One of the most amateurish mistakes in film restoration history.
Marce82 wrote:All the changes bother me... if each release of the film will make minor changes to it, and the film is re-released every 7 yrs, then the film released 70 yrs from now will be VERY different from the original....
Lets say that they change 2% of the film each time its re released. THis film will be re-released another 10 times in the next 70 yrs. Which means by then it will be 20% different...
Exactly.
There is no way that I will ever purchase this remake. This is not the Disney classic I know.
Same thing with BATB, the color changes, background changes, sequence changes, switching of scenes, switching of perspectives, completely re-animated scenes, tuned it into a remake. When I put this "direct to dvd looking" remake on, and the original film next to it, they don't even look alike anymore. So we should cherish the original version, and not pretend that this new amateurish made crap is the same thing. And yes, I call it that, because clearly there are some amateurs "working" at Disney. The company is gone, and this remakes are no better than any of the other rip-offs out there.
Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
Well, the SSL experience turned out to be both better than I expected and as bad as I anticipated.
First, the theatre had about seven groups in it, approximately 25-30 people. Not a full house, and the seating in the AMC Empire is such that nobody's iPad was in my view. Thankfully, you can't really hear anything from the iPads either. The real audience annoyance was from a girl in the back row that talked too loudly and from a group of 20-something girls in my row that quoted the movie.
The treatment of the movie is mostly okay. There are captions near the bottom of the screen of Flounder and Sebastian saying which game is coming up next and making chitchat related to the action. There are two occasions where the film freezes for a game where people have to unscramble the image and look at the onscreen frame for the comparison. (Those shots are the dancing sailors on Eric's ship and the plate of stuffed crabs.) These games are accompanied by somewhat amusing commentary by Ursula.
The really perturbing facet was the audio commentary from Flounder, Sebastian, Ursula and Ariel (she shows up near the end) showing up in moments without dialogue. The biggest sins are when they blabber over Ariel crying on the dock as the wedding ship sails away and during part of the wedding finale. I really hope this isn't out of some fear that kids will lose interest if they can't hear anyone speaking for a full 85 minutes. We get enough family movies that don't know how or when to shut up. Let's not convert the classics into being the same thing.
That said...I surprisingly found the experience worth it. It has been a while since I last watched the movie, so it was gratifying to be reminded of how terrific it is. With the possible exception of "Les Poissons" running a bit too long, there isn't a wasted moment in the whole movie. "Part of Your World", "Under the Sea", "Poor Unfortunate Souls" and "Kiss the Girl" have a power in a theater that cannot be replicated elsewhere. If you love the movie and have never seen it in a theater, I'd say you'd ought to see it. You may get annoyed in spots, but you may also find your affection renewed.

Hey, BwayJ? Is the SSL of the movie the thing that Pat Carroll said she did a new VoiceOver for?
Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
She was probably referring to both this and the new deleted scene on the Blu-ray.
