I think we may need to save the Treasures series

If Disney ever decide to do Walt Disney Treasures on Blu-ray I'd rather see them do away with the tins and make beautiful, double steelbooks as well. I like the double keepcases for the Treasures line and the overall design layout (I loved the small image frames - the region 2 ones were too big), but the problem with those is that the plastic pockets/sleeves get easily wrinkled, which make them quite cheap looking. And all that ugly plastic inside.
I like the feeling of the Treasures as luxury items, but you don't have to depend on a limited release to create that feeling - most people probably wouldn't have the patience to watch and collect the whole series anyway.
If I didn't care for the content, the nice presentation would just feel empty. But as the content - a lot of which had not been released on home video before - is special, I'm willing to pay a bit extra for the presentation.
What I don't like is when Disney guys change their minds in the middle of a series, and start to change everything around.

I think the guys at Disney started to view the Treasures as kind of a monkey on their backs. In the case of Donald, they were forced to finish the series. If it was up to them, they'd have probably called it quits like Maltin had rumored would happen back in 2006/2007. Just imagine the burden lifted from their shoulders once the Donald series was wrapped up.

But the rights holders are so close to getting the majority of Walt's most popular shows out and keeping everyone happy for some time to come.
Why not squeeze a few more years out with the remaining shorts and featurettes, more of the anthology TV series and the remaining theatrical films and key TV features? - - not to mention heavy-hitter classic Song of the South.
The numbers they were still getting on this series was so far beyond what other studios are doing with similar vintage material, it's a shame to waste the audience and disappoint fans.

Disney Animation Collection
Does anyone know if the Disney Animation Collection DVDs are selling well? (Example: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... eimprovemz). They are DVDs with just a couple cartoons each. I've seen them in stores for maybe around a year now. If they are selling well, maybe Disney will keep pushing those rather than reverting back to the Treasures series.

Re: Disney Animation Collection
There's no "I think" about it unfortunately. Multiple sources (Leonard Maltin, Bill Cotter, etc.) connected to the line have already confirmed it's dead. The lack of any Treasures last year or even small rumors about it returning this year pretty much confirms it. Disney opted to rather let it quietly fade away (ha!) rather than release any official "We're ending the line" statement.Mickeyfan1990 wrote:Sadly, I think the Treasures line is no more.
Regardless if they were selling well, there are always a "fixed" number of volumes per line. Every year since 2005 (and except for 2008 ) has seen budget compilation discs released, all of them generally just a bunch of shorts tied together by a major or minor similarity.monorail91 wrote:Does anyone know if the Disney Animation Collection DVDs are selling well?
2005 to 2006 - "Classic Cartoon Favorites" (12 volumes)
2005 to 2006 - "Walt Disney's Timeless Tales" (3 volumes)
2006 - "Walt Disney's Funny Factory" (4 volumes)
2006 to 2007 - "It's A Small World of Fun!" (4 volumes)
2009 - "Walt Disney Animation Collection" (7 volumes)
2010 - "Have A Laugh" (2 volumes)

Didn't you hear Scaps? There is a new wave of Treasures.
"Walt Disney Treasures: The Disney Essence Collection"
This tin is limited to 250,000 copies and contains multiple shorts that all share the Disney Essence in common and highlight the most Essenced shorts out of Walt's line up.
Special features include "That's What Disney Would Do!" where psychics predict accurately what Walt would have done and thought about Disney today and how he would have treated CGI, Restorations and the Disney Channel.
"Walt Disney Tresures: The Disney Change"
This highlights only the changes that are Disney that have happened in Disney's long history limited to 240, 000 tins.
- A feature length Documentary called "Disney Change: What is it?" narrated and explained by Disney Change expert 'Offma R. Ocker'
- A slipcover that is not only shiny, but embossed, opens like a book and is 3D. But wait, there's more! It also plays 'When You Wish Upon A Star' while the book portion is open!
"Walt Disney Treasures: The Colors of the Disney Wind"
This special 250, 000 tin tackles controversy of the highest degree. The skimpiest of the three sets, Colors of the Disney Wind tackles the issue of Color Restoration in Disney films and the cleaning up of grain and other various odds and ends. Special features include:
- A documentary called "Color in Disney. What are the originals?"
- An all new short that educates people on Color and Restoration, as narrated by extreme fanboys.
- A color wheel for each film so we can hold it up and make exact comparisons of the original colors on the wheel, to the badly redone restorations and see for ourselves!

That would have been awesome for the Diamond Editions. 'Once Upon A Dream' for Sleeping Beauty, 'Someday My Prince Will Come' for Snow White, 'Beauty and the Beast' for BatB, etc.Chernabog_Rocks wrote:-A slipcover that is not only shiny, but embossed, opens like a book and is 3D. And to be perfectly honest, I figured the set could only have so much. I had a feeling that, Jiminy Cricket and Ludwig Von Drake notwithstanding, the Walt-era inventory was starting to run a little low. Maybe that's why the Treasures quietly came to an end.
Then again, they could take a page out of the re-release format for animated features and re-release the Treasures series on Blu-Ray (not forgetting to improve on it in the process), since they're trying to foist that format onto us anyway. Just think of it, they could potentially have only at least two sets each, if not one each, for Mickey and Donald instead of four and the Pluto and Silly Symphonies serieses could also be merged into one each this way. Think of the possibilities!

I would still like to see the following collections of unreleased material that should have been Walt Disney Treasures (and still could be if they would reconsider and revive the line which likely sold better than their stand-alone documentaries):
Ludwig VonDrake (all 18 Ludwig hosted hour shows)
Jiminy Cricket (educational shorts and TV hosted hours)
The Magic Mirror (all the hosted TV hours and specials)
Ranger Woodlore and Humphrey (all the shorts and 4 TV hours)
Chip an' Dale (all the shorts and their TV hour)
Donald Duck on TV (all his hour shows and related Duck family hours)
Disney Rarities 2 (the other animated shorts and featurettes, TV hours and commercials)
Disneyland 3 (more TV hours - like Disneyland Showtime - and park films)
Annette 2 (Escapade in Florence, The Horsemasters)
The Complete Swamp Fox
Spin & Marty 2 and 3
Hardy Boys 2
Corky and White Shadow
Moochie (2 TV features plus other MMC bits)
The Prince and the Pauper (all 3 hours plus the feature cut and the cartoon)
Best of Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color (Legend of the Boy and the Eagle, etc.)
Animal Adventures (Sammy the Way-Out Seal, etc.)
The Mouse Factory
Disney Family Album
(Yay - - I haven't reisued that list in months!)

Re: I think we may need to save the Treasures series
I keep asking every year for more Disney Treasures DVD's. They don't have to be BluRay just regular DVD's. I so want to have Seasons 2 and 3 of Spin & Marty. Cost is not an issue .... both my sisters and some friends want the same.
We are all Baby Boomers and want you to listen to our requests !!!!
THANKS for considering this request.
