That film got decent reviews, but it didn't release a trailer until two months before its release, and ultimately it flopped at the box office. I can guarantee it would have done better had it advertised many months in advance. That's not to say that it wasn't a cliche story, which it was. Audiences can sense when something isn't original or a rehash. Either way, the lack of promotion is really worrying me.
This isn't the first time Disney hasn't released a full trailer until September for their November releases. They pulled the same advertising technique with Tangled, The Muppets, The Princes and the Frog and Wreck-It Ralph.

Also, do you know what movie you may have heard of didn't even have a teaser until August, despite being a December release? Avatar. I seem to recall that one making a lot of money.

I just don't understand why they don't release proper posters. With actual characters...

And with Disney Channel having a Disney Princess movie weekend this weekend, I don't see why they can announce the 2 newest princesses who are coming out in 2 months

If this movie ends up being a box office disaster they're going to blame the whole princess formula.. but guess what they're not going to blame? the shitty marketing.

They can't use the "Princess Formula" excuse again, considering Tangled/Brave were big hits. At least they can't blame 2D animation anymore. What they're doing is waiting til this month ends, then we get a REAL trailer, then novels all through October. Then when November rolls around, the marketing blitz begins, just before the Holiday season. But shoving everything in your face just 2 months before release doesn't seem like smart marketing. You have to build interest, us Disney fans will see this no matter what, but the mainstream audience still is unaware of Frozen. You have other big films coming in November too, Ender's Game, Sequels to The Hunger Games & Thor. Plus, early in the month, that turkey animated film "Free Birds". That could be a sleeper hit! Not to mention "Cloudy 2" which should do good business all through October. Animation Fatigue could hit by the time Frozen arrives. But we will see if they're 2 month marketing gamble pays off.

I wonder if the winter-y theme of the movie has prevented them from doing much marketing in the summer. Regardless the final couple months are the most important so we'll start seeing a lot more soon. They're not going to just let the movie happen without a peep.

A debut at #1 will be tough though since the Hunger Games comes out the week before. Other than that, it's a pretty clear field for Frozen as far as family entertainment is concerned. Free Birds comes out Nov 1, almost a month before. And I'm guessing it won't be a huge sleeper hit.

I swear, Hans' popularity is increasing by the day. Or at least the Hans the fans envision.

The day the Frozen trailer is released will be an interesting one indeed. :milkbuds:

I predict it will be similar to what happened with Tangled/Harry Potter. Frozen opens at #2 behind Hunger Games and then hops into first place on its second weekend.

I loled at "ginger god"

I dont know why but the fandom version of Hans keeps giving me Jeremiah Gottwald vibes(maybe its the similar looking suit). They should have gotten Crispin Freeman to do his voice.

Looks like the filming of TV advertisements has begun.

From Josh Gad's Twitter:
@MaiaMitchell Thanks for playing in the snow with me and our new friend. #FROZEN

Please tell me that this is the first one, and they'll also film the others

Yeah I've uploaded that! There's also another very very tiny little animation with Kristoff slowly moving his mouth kinda like singing (it looks like this one too). And you can see Sven a lot too, with his Maximus face

Hello! I'm new to the forum. I've been following mainly the threads about new Disney and Pixar films for more than 3 years now, since I discovered that most of the news in the blogs about Disney that I was following came from here.
I'm from Spain and I find it difficult to write in English, so I don't think I will post very frequently. But I finally decided to join the forum to have the opportunity to share sometimes things that I find, ask something I want to know, etc. And to be able to talk with other Disney fans. First of all, I have to thank all of you for the things you share with the rest of the fans, especially Sotiris, I don't know how you manage to find all the stuff you bring to the forum. But you are all fantastic and I really enjoy your discussions as well. :)

One small thing that I think hasn't been mentioned here:

Around the same time when The Rotoscopers were uninvited to a test screening of Frozen, I read a comment in a blog from someone who had seen a work in progress version of a new Disney film. He couldn't tell the title of the film, but he said that if Tangled is the equivalent to The Little Mermaid in this new golden era of Disney Animation, the film he saw would be the equivalent to Beauty and the Beast.

Well, I think there is no doubt that he was talking about Frozen. And although it's only the opinion of one person, it's a very positive one.
Personally, I think it will be a good movie, but I’m still a bit disappointed that they didn’t make a more faithful adaptation to the Hans Christian Andersen story. I think it could have been a different kind of fairytale movie for Disney. Now it has princesses, the typical young couple and a romance (I suppose, though I haven’t read the latest spoilers) like in every past Disney film based in a fairytale.
Particularly, I would have loved the main characters to be kids like in the original, because one thing that impressed me from the book is not only that Gerda embarks on that journey to save her friend alone, but that she faces that big adventure as a little girl. And the love she and Kai share as children is a more innocent kind of love.
But the story they have created is interesting too, and I understand that the book was very difficult to adapt, and that in choosing to centre on the Snow Queen character, they had to build the story around her and make many changes as a result.

Sorry for such a long post  and for all the mistakes I could have made, I hope that you've been able to understand what I have written.

Welcome to the forum!

You write in English very well. Had you not disclosed otherwise, I would have assumed English was your native language.

You raise interesting points. I am not certain of the current culture in Europe, but if Disney made a movie about children taking a journey without parents nowadays, people would flip out! In the US many parents seem to assume their children will imitate what they see in movies. Perhaps that was part of the reason behind that part of the story change.

I think the aging of the characters was so that a romance side plot could be included. Can you imagine if they kept Gerda and Kai as kids, but gave them a romance? Yeah, kind of weird unless they did a time jump or something.
