I need evidence. I showed a comparison of Final Fantasy X HD where there is a noticeable difference beyond resolution bump, now show me some comparisons from Kingdom Hearts HD that aren't merely a higher resolution versions of the original. Seriously, would it have killed them to add a couple more people to the project and have them use the fully animatable models of the characters to replace the scenes that previously had texture face. It's jarring each time they jump between the models and it's only going to be more noticeable in HD.

'Merely'. You make it sound like they threw it at us. Square had a lot of work put into KH as well, much more than other companies have put on their remasters. Aside from the new models for some characters (Sora, Riku, Ansem, the Princesses of Heart etc), you are getting a rescore, a new camera system, the reaction command, newly rendered CG cutscenes, a method to reduce banding etc etc. I don't have the game but from what I've seen there are plenty of spots where you can easily see that they have updated stuff.




Btw, we don't know that FFX's faces will be fully animated? Changing textures/models and animating characters anew are 2 different things. The fact that they added more textures probably is because the originals were pretty bad to begin with. KH didn't have that problem, or maybe the art-style complimented the lack of complicated textures.

Yeah, not a good comparison since the bottom one is doctored for marketing purposes and the top one is more or less in the actual game. but all the stuff you said is true. Just have to add that there is no reaction command; it's just remapping equipped abilities.

Dunno you guys but where I live it's super difficult to get ahold of KH games anywhere.

Anyway, saw the cinematic version of Days a few days (hah) ago. It's pretty nice, the updated clear graphics are pretty impressive.

Update (9/6/13): Due to overwhelming positive responses and the sweltering climate in California, the location for the KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5 ReMIX- launch event has been changed to the Anaheim Marriott in the Platinum Ballroom across the street from the Disneyland Resorts & Parks. It's a variation of it, with the addition of the 358/2 Days characters. It's simply fantastic and a HQ picture hasn't surfaced online yet.

I finished Wonderland and so far have yet to be genuinely disappointed. It's not without issues, but no sound glitches or anything big happening there. The redone music is fantastic! Both faithful to the original tracks while sounding completely fresh and easy on the ears.

The visuals are stunning! Goes to show that in the long run, when it comes to realism in games, less is more. The series has aged incredibly well and unless you count the updated textures and character models, you can hardly tell that nearly all the data had to be rebuilt.

Camera still has problems, but remapping it to RAS makes it easier to manipulate. Still rather close to Sora for some people but the wider viewpoint should help with that.

Oddly, one cutscene did get a strange edit. Riku and Sora no longer glance at each other when Kairi challenges them to a race(before the actual gameplay portion of Deatiny Islands). Instead, camera lingers on her half a second longer.

Some cutscenes feel a little cramped in the reframing process. Others are certainly better suited and more open.

Also, I hear tell of a line newly added to the HD collection not localized. It was one from Kairi during the ending FMV confirming a lot of people's feelings on her and Sora while adding a slight amount of depth to her intro in Kingdom Hearts 2. An unfortunate loss, but one I hopefully don't miss.

The artbook is solid, and as expected light. Only problem there is it doesn't have the specific images that were advertised. No simba summon storyboards, Riku sketch, or Halloween town costumes. Nomura's forward is nice and heartfelt and the exclusive sketch there is good too. Some people are also bothered by how much it stands out in their collection, being the case and all. Enough to get another standard case.

Yes they have. Did comparisons back when the first trailer was released and even so they would have to be cropped. The PS2 version's cutscenes were matted to a 1.66:1; not 16:9 which they are now. Some are cropped, some have subtly repositioned camera, and some are open-matte.

Ah, I thought you were referring to the "problem" a lot of us thought the ReMix would have; 4:3 cutscenes cropped to 16:9, which was never the case.

I got it yesterday, and played up until the end of Traverse Town after I got home from work last night and then watched some of the 358/2 Days 'film.'

I agree with you, ajmrowland, the remaster music is amazing! I love some of the tracks more now, particularly the Destiny Islands music, which I used to hate, but now no longer bothers me. I can't wait to play through the rest of the game just to hear the music.

I also noticed the scene just before the end of Destiny Islands, where Kairi is talking about the charm (which becomes the Oathkeeper later) zooms in on her and the charm as she's talking. I don't know if these changes were already present in the Final Mix or if this was just done for the ReMix, but this particular change didn't bother me. I used to be confused years ago if the thalassa shells she talked about and the Oathkeeper were the same thing, so it clarifies. And it may just me, but Pluto acts a bit different in the beginning scene at Traverse Town, too. Not anything specific, but his mannerisms are more animated (bounding, and then tilting his head up when he turns the corner and finds Sora before we do). I don't like the Riku/Sora edit at all though. Don't mess with my Riku/Sora moments, please.

yeah it was a little strange. I knew about it beforehand due to someone who played the JP version.

Having playd the original Final Mix, I can confirm the extended Sora Kairi conversation is old.

What was this line? I hadn't heard about this.

something along the lines of "Sora just delivered his feelings to me. I must never forget". When we next see her, she's almost completely forgotten he even existed. It was added to the very end of the game for 1.5 JP, but cut out entirely here. People say it was even voiced. But we don't get it as subtitles. In a way, it's like the aforementioned sora/riku cut: they both have depth and significance, but only serve to convey things we already suspect or would come to know soon after.

KH1 is still as good as ever, and little bothers me about the relationship between this and the other games.


Except sora's lack of personality here. Like the series in general, Sora does not really develop a unique identity until COM/KH2. Especially considering he has no development in the series really so far, his DDD personality is a far cry from KH1.

Well, even though I don't have a PS3, I got myself a copy of the game. My friend invited me over to check it out when he got it and I was so impressed that I knew I wanted to get a PS3 at some point for the game, and I knew I'd kick myself if I didn't get the limited edition while it was still available.

I always said how I wouldn't get a PS3 until Kingdom Hearts III came out (assuming it DID come out for it.. which it won't) because Wii and Xbox 360 were enough for me. But now it looks like I'll be getting a PS3 for the 1.5 ReMIX

History is repeating itself. Last gen, GameCube was my main console, then Xbox was my secondary console (it had a few exclusives I wanted, plus better third party games) and when PS2s were cheap (circa 2005, shortly before Kingdom Hearts II came out) I bought one for Kingdom Hearts. Now this gen Wii was my main console, with 360 being my secondary (again, third party games were awful on Wii and much better on 360 for the most part) and now that PS3s are cheap I'll be getting one soon for the 1.5 ReMIX.

I hope they do a mix with an HD version of KHII plus handhelds soon. (because I really can't justify $200 on a PS3 for one game, but for both I'd do it).
