This. I'm glad I wasn't a child star; would've rather just been a child actor.

Honestly, one must have respect for Duff, and just about every Harry Potter actor. Never knew Felton went through Bankruptcy even and Dan's alcoholism was so well hidden that I totally forgot about it and he saved his own ass before getting poparazzi'd.

Yep, I'm sure an Oscar-winning actress who also appeared in a major role in one of last year's biggest hits has had a disastrous post-Disney career.

Not to mention, she was in Alice in Wonderland only a couple of years ago, so I don't think Disney cared that she took her clothes off in a film. I think the executives are mature enough to understand that actors can play a variety of roles, both family-friendly and for a more adult audience. Jason Segal showed his birthday suit in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and was given the role of resurrecting the Muppets not long afterwards.

Anne Hathaway is a far cry from the girl in Diff'rent Strokes, who ended up doing porn after her show ended.

Estefan mentioned Mara Wilson, and oddly enough I read her Cracked article just a few days before the awards. It's worth a read, especially for those making judgment calls.

I used to hate Miley Cyrus with a passion for a while. Yes, it might seem contradictory, considering that I recently stated that "Hannah Montana" used to be my guilty pleasure, but then I discovered what a liar and a hypocrite she really was. If this came during my period of my hatred for her, I would have been thrilled, but now I couldn't care less.

People, please look at enigmawing's post, and read the article she linked to. You are all perfectly entitled to criticise Miley, but I think calling her a "slut" is a bit much.

I predict she will regret behaving the way she did during this year's VMA performance when she's older. Also, I really think she should not stick out her tongue. It's so big it's gross.

David Letterman joked that she took tongue lessons from Jabba the Hut. Yeah, I finally saw the performance and it was awful more because she was trying so hard to be sexual/attractive and not succeeding at all. Really awkward.

But I agree with Jules. There's no need to slut shame her even though I don't like her at all. She wasn't even dressed that bad to me.

Well, I'm sorry I said that, but the fact is she's becoming the next Madonna or Britney Spears, and I never like Hannah Montana. I even accused her for destroying Mickey Mouse career.

The way I see it Miley Cyrus (like a lot of other Disney stars) probably had this contract with all these rules she had to obey when she was younger and thus she never really had a chance to just be wild and crazy and, you know, a stupid teenager. Now that she is free from this Hannah Montana world that she had been trapped in it is all flooding out. It is too bad that it had to manifest itself it that performance, but really if this is the worst Miley does that is pretty damn amazing.

Gaga does it and it's art, Miley does it and she is a whore. I don't get it.

Honestly I find Miley to be a smart, well spoken, honest young lady. I have been impressed by her many times over the past couple years and she never really seems fake to me.

If she gets a little rowdy sometimes who the eff cares? She is a twenty year old girl! Let her have her fun. It's not like she was killing babies or crapping on the flag. She danced and little proactively and made a some weird faces. How is she different than most girls you would see at the club.

She isn't Hannah Montanta. Get over it.

Plus nobody is calling out on how much of a right sexist Douchebag pig-head Robin Thicke is and how his song is basically Date- Rape.

It might be because Gaga's goal is to be bizarre while Miley was trying to be as sexual as possible (and nobody thinks of Gaga and "sexual" at the same time...). It might also be because Miley Cyrus is a joke in general, whereas Gaga actually has made music people have liked before, so they aren't thought of the same way.

I agree 100%. I personally find the slut-shaming and general reactions of folk to be a lot more offensive than Ms. Cyrus' raunchy performance. If she feels comfortable performing in such a manner, then good for her! I am stunned by the over-reaction to her performance which was, really, pretty harmless, there are people out there doing genuinely evil things, but it seems to be easier and more enjoyable for most to get wound up about something so insignificant.

Two weeks ago, I watched Batman Returns and after hearing this news about Miley and watching the performance, I was comparing her to Tim Burton's Catwoman who has her tongue out for too much of her screentime (licking back of hand then sliding it across forehead to mimic a cat washing, licking Batman's face, tongue hanging out while she plays like a child, licking slowly around her mouth when she wants to appear alluring)

Gaga has worn sexual clothing in the past though. She does try to be bizarre and artistic but some of her clothing is rather sexual.

Image

This is very very pretty and I love and admire her hair but she's not wearing much clothing, if any at all.

Image

If Miley did this everybody would be slut-shaming her to the end of time. :/

Image

Again very sexual and provoking. If Miley did this again, there would be a huge uproar.

AMEN.

I cannot believe how okay everyone is with him, the music video and the song just because it's "catchy".... read: ripped off from Marvin Gaye.

He's the real violation to women's rights these past few months. Miley is just doing what everyone was expecting her to do because it's the only way these girls remain relevant. It's our celebrity obsessed culture that creates these girls. South Park literally predicted this. That Britney episode feels like freaking Kafka when I watch it now. Eerily close to reality.

Miley is a puppet. If you think she as a person embodies immorality you're diluting yourself. She's just holding the mirror. This is where and who we are now.

The thing about Gaga though is that she's been sexual her entire career. It's not surprising to see her in a skimpy outfit. We were introduced to Milry as this innocent girl, and now she's trying to show us she's "grown up".

Miley Cyrus Breaks Silence, Claims VMA Performance Made History
http://music.yahoo.com/blogs/stop-the-p ... 09064.html
Miley Cyrus has a message for all the haters knocking her twerk-tastic and controversial 2013 MTV Video Music Awards performance on August 25 with Robin Thicke: She's just being Miley.

The "We Can't Stop" singer broke her silence in an interview with MTV.com three days after her polarizing number at Brooklyn's Barclays Center and said, "I don't pay attention to the negative because I've seen this play out so many times," she dished. "You're thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn't even think about it 'cause that's just me!"

In the MTV video, which is a teaser for an upcoming documentary, the former "Hannah Montana" star claims that she's certainly not the first star to shock the world with a performance. "How many times have we seen this play out in pop music? Madonna's done it, Britney's done it. Every VMA performance… anyone that performs, that's what you're looking for. You're wanting to make history."

She's got a point: Audience members were agog after the "Material Girl" and the "Toxic" singer locked lips at the 2003 MTV VMAs and proceeded to bust a move together. Nearly 20 years before that, Madonna had tongues wagging over her hypersexual performance of "Like A Virgin" at the 1984 VMAs. Neither performance sidelined their careers; if anything, it made each star more famous.

In fact, making a big scene at the VMAs is all part of the game. Van Toffler, president of Viacom Media Networks Music & Logo Group, was definitely pleased with Cyrus's performance, calling it a "huge success" and saying, "It was a wonderfully chaotic mess of unforgettable performances — everything you could hope for as a producer of a live music show."

And it sounds like the 20-year-old star knew full well that she was about to put her stamp on music history when she took the stage with the "Blurred Lines" crooner and a foam finger. "Me and Robin the whole time said, 'You know we're about to make history right now.'"

"What's amazing is I think now, we're three days later and people are still talking about it. They're overthinking it," the pop princess explains.

So there you have it folks, we may not ever look at a foam finger the same way again, but Miley Cyrus knew that would be the case all along.
