It sort of merges POYW and POYW Reprise (the reprise section is rerecorded).... Goodness, I meant 'World of Colour' not 'Wishes', so sorry. They have beefed up the background too.

World of Colour (around the 3 min mark): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KO-eMVh2Lg

Disney on Ice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtfDZ6uZaIQ

Both different versions ... wondered if they would be around on any park CDs or anything? I know there was a soundtrack to one Disney on Ice show, the celebration of 100 years of Disney, but wasn't sure if TLM was featured ?

Obviously. And it sounds great in this way.

It can't hold a candle to 'Poor Unfortunate Souls', but it's still a great song in my opinion.

I wonder what gave them the idea to use it though? Unlike Disney to use a demo song in a show. Makes me wonder if Menken was involved.

When I saw Aladdin on Ice back in '93, that was the first time I heard "To Be Free" with lyrics, sung by Jasmine. Perhaps someone over at Disney on Ice has a soft spot for cut musical numbers.

I aw clips on Youtube. Started out similar to the old version and the last verse changes to higher tune.

I don't even really remember "to be Free" except that I think it was sung in the stage version at Disneyland that I saw.

How odd ! There must be someone there that has a bit of a thing for deleted stuff, you're right.

Was extremely interesting to see that Vanessa was actually featured as well; I don't think she's ever been acknowledged before?

Is there anyone who knows of a recording of this different version of POYW ?

Wow! I love this production :D So nice to hear a lot of reprises of Menken's original score in there! Does anybody know more about this production that they can share with us?

I know people have said they weren't sure if Sierra Boggess could replace Jodi when the time came, but have just seen this - I really think she could be a good match, no? Plus, Disney keeps reusing her for different bits and bobs, it might happen.

I know she's not a dead on match, nobody could be, or fill Jodi's shoes for me personally. But when the time comes, if be happy if it was Sierra.

No offense, but they wouldn't DARE replace Jodi Benson with anyone else to play Ariel. That would be like replacing Dom DeLuise with a soundalike actor for any character Dom voiced. It can't be done! Just the thought of doing such a thing seems so...

Blasphemous! :(

Haven't they already replaced all of them?

... Is Jodi even still Ariel's voice?

Yeah. Jim Cumming, Wayne Allwine, Bill Farmer and Tony Anselmo- And that's to name a few off the bat- were replacement voice actors, but that's basically on a completely different basis because I was born by the time they assumed the roles for their predecessors. Plus, I grew up being familiar with THOSE voices.

Hey, hate to bring this up... no one gets immortality nor do they stay young. It's sad, but true. One day, a change would have to be accepted. Better be prepared.
... I'm not being mean or anything, but guys... Mickey's voice always changes, many characters' voices change all the time, it all depends on how well-done the casting can be when it comes to (nearly) replicating the original.
This is DisneyFTW1, a former Youtube account that was terminated by Disney themselves. My current Youtube Account is FilmFTW2 (FilmFTW1 was terminated). Youtube sucks when it comes to film uploads, and it sucks even more when major corporations are following your channels. But what can I do?

If they ever do make another sequel or something involving ariel, I want them to use someone other than Jodi.

Her voice just grew up with her. The third movie, which was supposed to take place before the first one had Jodi in it and ariel sounded older. It just doesn't work anymore for me. I'd rather they get someone to play Ariel who is similar and have Jodi be ariel's mother.

I, as so many people, love the character of Harley Quinn. Created and inspired by Arleen Sorkin. She did such an amazing job that nobody wanted her replaced. Sadly, she did. But, Tara Strong was the one chosen for the role and she´s done such an amazing job that you can´t tell the difference:

Sorkin:

Strong:

BTW, funny story. She played Melody in The Little Mermaid 2. She said in an interview that when she was going to do the movie and met Jodi Benson started crying. Benson was surprised so of course she came to her an asked her what was wrong. Tara told her that she loved Ariel so much growing up that meeting her, let alone working with her, was like a dream come true.

And, another interesting fact:

Jodi Benson played Aquagirl (an Aquaman ally). Wonder why?

About The Little Mermaid:

Watched the movie last night. Love it as usual. There´s this thing going on for t that makes it really special and I don´t know how many of you have noticed. The fact that it is a 1989 movie.

Not only animation in the 80´s was great overall but it does have a certain feeling/atmosphere to it. Something that would be lost as soon as we reached the 90´s.

Another thing is how dark this cartoons/movies were: The Secret of NIMH, The Last Unicorn, The Black Cauldron, The Great Mouse Detective...

Look at The Rescuers Down Under (1990). A prime example of the 90´s: vibrant, colorful and big animation. The next one? Beauty and the Beast. Basically if you compare The Little Mermaid with any other Disney movie from the 90´s you´ll see how different it is.

So...love it got made in 89 as if it had been done later on it wouldn´t have been the same.

There won't be another sequel or anything; the most we will have is random pieces-like Ariel appearing on Sophia the First.

Jodi still sounds like Ariel, so she won't be replaced anytime soon. It was only Paige O'Hara who got the axe.
