I do love that menu - I am torn thinking Disney are cheap and not doing something new, but I also love it at at the same time.
You are welcome. :)
And this is exactly the same way I feel. At first I was a little disappointed they aren't doing something new, but then I remembered that their last menus (even those from the Diamond Editions) weren't that great, so I appreciate that they re-use this- it is really awesome.
Hey, he worked for Disney for at least 3 Decades (how do I know this? He helped out with Mickey's Christmas Carol. Yeah, he actually has been around) so I'm not surprised that he's EPing a lot. After all... Disney owns Pixar, Lasseter brought the world of Ghibli to Disney, and... can't think of anything else to state. But yeah, let him EP everything. I wouldn't care. ... cause he's everywhere anyway.
After the disaster that is the SitS blu-ray, I'd actually be happy, if Lasseter would supervise all Disney restorations.

It really does! She was there all along, foretelling the sequel abomination that was to come. :P
disneyftw1 wrote:Wait... the 3D credits are included in the 2D version, the version which I'll mainly buy. (wait, did the Lion King and Beauty/Beast 2D Blu-rays have those credits?) ... F*CK. Well, at least that won't stop me from buying the film. It's the film itself I'm more concerned on, not everything else, such as the credits.
Yeah, it really irks me to see John Lasseter's name attached to my favorite film. It's not something that ruins the film or anything, but...blech. The complete antithesis of everything I love about this movie.

The menu is still gorgeous, although I would've liked to have seen something new. When it comes to home re-releases, I prefer new, tbh, since I already have the old cover/menus to looks at on the old version. I haven’t enjoyed everything they've done over the years, but I always like seeing new art of the characters.

Oh, and whoever is a member at Blu-ray.com, send that guy who posted all these caps lots of thanks from UD. :P I feel like I can tell the most difference from the previous release in the darker shots, tbh. Things look more blue than green now, and the purples are nicer/darker.

When his name is all over anything and everything Disney produces ... what is it that he actually does ?

As far as being an Executive Producer, back in film school, we learned that pretty much anyone can be an Executive Producer...it's just a title they choose to get for providing some funding for the film, really. They don't have to raise a finger besides to sign a check.

Hmm but he doesn't 'fund' anything though does he ? So one wonders if he just wants his name on there....

Or, he pops his head in, says 'Great job guys!' and that gives him the credit? I know he is more involved in some films more than others, but this is getting a bit of a joke now ...

I can't believe they are getting the colors right! This really gives me hope for future releases of BATB as well.

The special edition looked nothing like the original. I can't believe some people on here loved that SE version so much and were SURE that was how it looked in theatres. I guess because it was the "latest" version they had to think is was the best........kind of sad. Thank god for technology and that they still are able to go back to the original colors after all this time.

Yeah, I mean I would think that the company would fund something, unless he pitched in his $0.02, figuratively and literally. He easily could just want his name on as many films as possible. It probably makes him seem holy, like the sole savior of Disney animation...

Oh good lord

Sad thing is, I can totally see that being the reason. I just can't remember another Disney 'Head Honcho' doing this as much ?!

It's pretty amazing how identical it is to the first VHS/LaserDisc and I say it especially because there were 2 restorations in between that looked nothing like the original.

And yeah, I agree about BATB.

I don't know, maybe the original animators made a point, or the "restoration people" were given less freedom in recoloring?
Or people started to care more? Or they have better tools now?

Let's hope for the best for BATB and Cinderella too.

Lies. I never said I loved the Special Edition, nor did I say it was how it looked in theatres, nor did I "love" it because it was the latest version. All I've done in the past years was say that I'll support the filmmakers' decision on how to present the film. That's their right. Not the audience's. Not the consumer's. Not yours.

I originally wrote something much longer, probably a bit nastier, and more specific towards our own ongoing battles.

Instead, I'll just offer this:

I have yet to see anything from your posts (Microsoft Paint, anyone?) over the past oh-so-many years that show an actual understanding of the technical nature of film restoration - be it digital or photo-chemical. You're certainly well versed in spotting the differences between two screen caps from two different home media releases. While that may impress like-minded forum members who agree with you, it certainly is not enough to get you a working job in the restoration field. So, I'll take a professional restoration (even one with studio-mandated compromises) over your "I think it should look like the LaserDisc" conception any day of the week. Even when it actually looks like the LaserDisc, as is this current case with The Little Mermaid. Because they have the credentials to present it that way. You don't.

You really want to know how it looked back in the day? Then go rent a time machine, travel back to 1989 and see it in theaters for yourself. :P

Or perhaps, find the original 70mm or 35mm film print of the movie? 8)

It appears The Little Mermaid will get a limited U.S. theatrical exhibition after all, but via what may be the most distracting and unnecessary presentation method ever conceived.

Wow, how pathetic. There's an obvious demand of the film to be in theaters (I'd most certainly bet that The Little Mermaid would make much more money than Monsters, Inc.), and this is most certainly not the way to do it. This would be one of the few DACs that I would want to see in the theaters, but since none of the participating theaters are anywhere near Ohio, it looks like I'll just have to be content with watching the film on my television. And there would be no way in hell that I would actually use an iPad while watching the film.

Who comes up with this stuff? And who green lights it?!? I mean, I was okay when they cancelled the rerelease, but they come up with this instead?
