Nice Star Wars Menus + new changes to OT!
Nice Star Wars Menus + new changes to OT!
Sure, not Disney, but it's the next best thing! Star Wars!!!!! Got this DVD menu from http://www.millenniumfalcon.com's forum. Thanks Klownicle! These are apparently from a leaked copy of the ROTJ disc. Yeah, a lot like Ep. 1 & 2, but I'm so excited to see this stuff. Plus, this is a prefect example of how Disney should set up their menu systems!
http://209.235.23.228:30081/rotj/rotj-menu.mpg
1. anamorphic widescreen menu
2. short animated sequence at the beginning
3. simple options on the main face of the menu system, although I think Disney's nailed it with EasyFind
4. Background shot from or ressembling the film itself
5. Optional mini anmation from important sequences in the film
N.B.: Although, I must admit, I find the Podrace anmation sequence in the Chapter Selection, quite annoying, especially if I'm going from 1 to 24, per se
UPDATE: BTW, I know you all aren't SW fans, but I thought I might as well include some mirrors to the screencaps and mpeg video files that have leaked around the net. They've been hard to find, and I hope you all enjoy.
A New Hope Screencaps
Empire Strikes Back Screencaps
Return of the Jedi Screencaps
OT DVD Change: Palpatine/Vader conversation
OT DVD Change: Temuera Morrison as Boba's Voice
The Hayden in ROTJ Mirror
P.S.: Luke, feel free to move this to Off-Topic. It really doesn't have much to do with Disney anyways.

This really should be in off topic, but...
I find the Jabba screencaps hilarious.
So Lucas shows that he will have to update this every few years. It is not enough to add a CGI Jabba to the film in 1997, but the CGI of only 7 years ago looks dated enough to need updating
If you ever needed an argument against CGI creature features, then this is it!
Plus, it doesn't look as though he has done a CGI Jabba in Jedi, so what was the point of updating the Jabba in Star Wars at all?

I must admit though, this CGI is much better. The skin looks pretty darn good. For any Hyperspace members here, the Official Site even has it's first Yoda pic, and he looks amazing! Just as good as Gollum, if not better. This skin is sooo life-like, although it's different once the object is actually moving.Loomis wrote:This really should be in off topic, but...

I too am surprised GL hasn't "updated" Jabba and Yoda in the OT. Prehaps he saving that for the Hi Def rereleases. I have heard though that when the two prequels are rereleased in conjunction with Revenge of the Sith, Yoda will get a makeover for Ep. 1 in CGI, including the puppet shots! I guess it's a good thing Henson never did Yoda; what a disgrace it would've been to him (no offence to second-best Frank Oz though)

Of course it looks better!!! It was done in 2003/2004...as opposed to what you could do in 1977.yoda_four wrote: I must admit though, this CGI is much better. The skin looks pretty darn good.
Snow White would look way cooler if it was made today, but we wouldn't be as impressed. 44th Disney Animated film doesn't sound as impressive as The One That Started it All.
All these new effects are simply window-dressing, and many people consider the originals classics. If the originals truly are classics, then they certainly would need any touching up (and in my opinion they are classics, and they don't need any touching up).

He didn't say better. He said cooler.
Ditch all the multi-plane camera stuff for 3D CGI, put some effects around the witch's transformation, how about a few CG enhanced tracking shots.
It would undoubtably be cooler and "appeal to kids today more". It wouldn't be better. Which is his whole Star Wars argument.

Yes, that was my point.alex.robinson wrote:You really think so? I really, really, don't see how it could be bettered.Loomis wrote: Snow White would look way cooler if it was made today
As 2099net pointed out, I said "cooler" not better.
My point is if George Lucas really wants to do now what he could have done with the benefit of 30 years of technology, then make new films. Oh wait, he is doing that! Why not just leave it at that?

The menu link doesn't work anymore...just Incredifind...
. Oh well. But the screencaps work!
Thanks for the links, yoda_four!
I agree that everything looks cooler and more hi-tech, but I don't think it really fits with the rest of the film. I mean the rest of the film looks like a futuristic far off galaxy as seen as of the 1980's and adding new millenium technology just doesn't seem right. It still looks cool though.
I don't like how they changed Anakin at the end of RotJ
. Isn't Anakin supposed to be older? I find it hard to see that Hayden Christmas or whatever his name is to be the father of Luke (Skywalker, not the one we all know here
). They should just keep the old one. It didn't need changing. It's like if the changed dubbed over Bobby Driscoll's voice in Peter Pan to sound like Blaine Weaver (Peter in Return to Neverland). You just don't mess with that kind of stuff. Lol, sorry for rambling
. I'll stop before a big debate comes up.

I love how they've made the menus match those of the prequels. It gives the DVD's a real sense of consistancy. As for the changes, what are you gonna do? What's done is done and like I've said before, these changes don't bother me since Lucas is trying to unify the series as a whole. What bothers me is that Lucas isn't offering the originals to fans. I do think that he's full of it, though, in saying the originals will never be available. I believe they will be and that he's just saying that to get people to double dip on this and whatever future set he'll be coming out with.
I was comparing the new CGI to the old CGI from 1997. Besides, this scene wasn't even in the original and it would've been very hard to do it with a puppet.Loomis wrote:Of course it looks better!!! The topic used to be called "This is what I call a good DVD menu!" I guess he was answering that.Disneykid wrote:WHAT does this have to do with anything?Disney Guru wrote:Hi,
